The Raiders may have secretly hired a GM sometime last year because the Raiders finally made a smart draft pick with Penn State's Stefan Wisniewski. Wisniewski is a homer pick for the Silver and Black as his uncle, Steve Wisniewsk,i is their offensive line coach.
When the Oakland used their 2011 first round pick last summer to land all world DT, Richard Seymour Raider Nation collectively breathed a sigh of relief. Not only did the Silver and Black add a key piece to their defense, they avoided the adventure that is an Al Davis first round pick.
Grade: A
First round picks are usually hot commodities but Davis has a history wasting them on the QB with the biggest arm or the WR with the fastest 40 time.
I love this pick. The Raiders avoided the Ryan Mallett pitfall and showed that they are committed to the run in 2011. Wiesniewski can play either either guard position or center and has the NFL in his blood and played against the best competition in college; he shouldn't have trouble adjusting to the professional game. Should make an immediate impact next season.
