WoW Moviewatch: What Would Warchief Garrosh Do?

I'm not entirely sure what coincidence has inspired it, but I've seen a dozen requests this week for a re-feature of this video by Irdeen Productions. What Would Warchief Garrosh Do? was Irdeen Production's entry into the BlizzCon 2010 machinima contest.

Obviously inspired by South Park's love of Brian Boitano, a handful of Horde kids sing an entertaining anthem about Garrosh Hellscream. Now that we've had about 9 months of Garrosh under our belts, I wonder how many of us still think Garrosh is a great Horde leader. Regardless of my feelings about Hellscream, I do love this video. It's fun, fast, and packed with lots of jokes.
Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at moviewatch@wowinsider.com.

The Queue: Twilight cultists are everywhere

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

Is there no one the long tendrils of the Twilight's Hammer can't touch? Not even Holiday, my friend Caitlyn's cat, could withstand their siren song. She's currently in the running to be the next elemental ascendant of catnip.

jrj_paladin asked:

I play a lvl 85 Holy pally as my main and I am as well geared as I can get without doing raids. I was told that with the last patch they said that the old raids are now pugable but I have always been very scared to do them. So how easy are the old raids compared to the what they use to be?

They're 20% easier or more, depending on the boss! Damage and abilities from the tier 11 bosses was nerfed by at least that much, in most cases. You still need to understand the way the fights work and respond to fight gimmicks appropriately, but it's considerably less punishing to you and the raid if you do mess up. Educate yourself on the fights and go with other educated people (or fast learners), and you should be fine.

Official: Plug-in hybrid Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks coming in 2013

Ford F-Series Super Duty
Azure Dynamics has signed an agreement with Ford, whereby the Oak Park, MI firm will integrate its plug-in hybrid technology into Ford's F-Series Super Duty trucks.

Working in collaboration with Ford, Azure's plug-in hybrid technology will debut on the F-550 Super Duty chassis cab in early 2013. This agreement also allows for Azure to perform plug-in hybrid powertrain conversions on all available configurations of Ford's F-350 and F-450 trucks. Azure says that roughly two-thirds of its plug-in hybrid system will be applicable for all Super Duty configurations, with approximately one-third needing to be powertrain-specific (i.e. gasoline or diesel).

Additionally, the Azure-Ford agreement includes a so-called "ship-thru" provision that will allow Azure to sell its converted vehicles through qualified Ford Commercial Truck dealerships in North America. In 2009, Azure struck up a similar deal with Ford for the Transit Connect Electric.

Samsung withholds mobile phone sales data due to Apple legal battle

Samsung reported its quarterly earnings today and, for the first time, the Korean manufacturer did not report its mobile phone sales. Samsung withheld this information because the company has a new information policy that discloses less information about its mobile phones and tablets.

Samsung's chief of investor relations Robert Yi said, "As competition intensifies, there are increased risks that the information we provide may adversely affect our own businesses." Samsung refused to elaborate on the reason for this silence, but analysts believe it is the result of a heated legal battle with Apple.

Perhaps Samsung does not want history to repeat itself. Earlier this year, a Samsung executive said the company redesigned its Galaxy Tab 10.1 after seeing the iPad 2. This offhand comment came back to bite the Korean manufacturer when the comment was cited by a judge in a recent trademark and trade dress dispute filed by Apple.

The lockout has only been lifted for barely a week, and yet so much has been done. There is still plenty of time for teams to sign and re-construct their rosters accordingly.

There are contracts being signed all over the league, it's just a matter of time before these players get taken out of the free-agency pool.

Gender Differences In Risk Perception

It's a common belief that women take fewer risks than men, and that adolescents always plunge in headlong without considering the consequences. But the reality of who takes risks when is actually a bit more complicated, according to the authors of a new paper which will be published in the August issue of Current Directions in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science. Adolescents can be as cool-headed as anyone, and in some realms, women take more risks than men...

3DS NES Ambassador Program games will add multiplayer, other features

Nintendo 3DS
Nintendo really wants to make it up to those of you who already shelled out $250 for the 3DS, in light of the looming $80 price drop. You probably already knew that you'd be getting a pile of free NES games on September 1st, but you can also expect them to be updated and improved going forward. These aren't going to be half-hearted ports that get pushed out to early adopters, riddled with bugs, and forgotten. Sometime later this year, they'll be offered as payed versions through the eShop with features like multiplayer simultaneous play. The best part? Those eligible for the Ambassador Program will get free upgrades to retail version. One feature we can tell you wont be added though, is 3D -- the classic titles like Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. will remain blissfully two-dimensional.

Google launches Hotel Finder, finds a way to recycle Google Maps reviews

By now, it should be no secret that Google wants to get up in your online trip-planning business (if it wasn't somehow there already). First, there was the announcement that El Goog would buy ITA, the company serving up pretty much all of your online ticketing options -- a deal that still hasn't closed. Then came flight schedule searches and now, the outfit's rounding it all out by throwing hotels into the mix. The company just launched Hotel Finder, a service that lets you -- wait for it -- find a place to lay your weary head in these great fifty states. At first glance, it's little more than a specific use case for Google Maps -- just type in a city or US zip code to get a map with the usual spreads of pinpoints. Though Google won't be the middleman booking your hotel reservation, you can use the tool to fine-tune your search, drawing circles on the map to scour multiple neighborhoods. As you'd expect, you can also whittle the search by price and rating, and read reviews that people originally posted on Google Maps. One thing we're liking about the UI is that you don't have to open a new tab to read the full spill on a hotel -- you can just click the listing to see it expand right there, alongside pretty photo collages. Hit the source link to poke around, though if its bare-bones simplicity turns you off, don't say Google didn't warn you -- the tool is so new that Google isn't calling it a "beta" so much as an...experiment.

Plaxico Burress Jets: What Would Inking Plax Mean to Mark Sanchez?

At the beginning of Saturday morning, former New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress was considered a long shot to sign with the New York Jets, with the Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers rumored to be the favorites.

That all changed in a matter of hours.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette tweeted today that the Jets are expected to make a "big pitch" for the 33-year-old, who hasn't played since November 2008, when he shot himself in the leg outside a New York City nightclub.

On top of that, Bouchette wrote that Giants sources have told him Burress is "unlikely" to sign with his former club.

Burress used to be one of the NFL's best receivers, part of a duo with Giants quarterback Eli Manning that became one of the greatest in league history.

But since then, he's been serving a prison term, and it's unclear how quickly he'll be able to transition back to the NFL. He certainly has talent, and by all accounts he's kept himself in shape while in prison, but he's been out of the league for a long time.

With the Jets, however, he makes a lot of sense.

He'll be their No. 2 option opposite Santonio Holmes, who was just re-signed by the team. In short, he won't be asked to be the main option in the receiving corps, which alleviates the pressure of coming back to the NFL and also asks less of him.

Most pundits will say Burress is a great fit as a No. 2 based on his talent. It's just a matter of if he can stay clean off the field, which has obviously been a problem for him in the past.

The Jets weren't able to sign top cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, but with the signing of Burress they get a comparable one-two punch to Holmes and Braylon Edwards. Edwards is expected to be leaving the Jets with the signing of Holmes.

This proves why the Jets are one of the best organizations in the NFL. Despite their clear focus on defense throughout the years, they still understand they need to give quarterback Mark Sanchez some options.

Not only did they re-sign his favorite receiver (sorry Braylon), the are gunning for a legitimate No. 2 option in Burress who could be a steal if he transitions quickly back to the league.

The Jets certainly know what they're doing.

Breakfast Topic: How do you pass time in cities?

This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.

It seems that with each new feature that Blizzard adds to the game, our characters spend more and more time in the capital city hub. Profession dailies, portals, trade chat, and LFD all beckon our characters to spend our time within the friendly confines of Stormwind or Orgrimmar.

Have you ever taken a look at what other people do while waiting for the opportunity to conclude their business in town? Or at what you yourself do?

I've watched people put on light shows with vanity items; run laps around Dalaran as if they were in the Race for the Cure; inspect everybody who walks by with an interesting item; or hop from rooftop to rooftop in Stormwind. Others devote their time to more annoying pursuits; finding the biggest mount possible to stick on top of the mailbox outside the AH seems to be a common theme.

I often idle in Stormwind while waiting out the last minutes before raid time. I typically camp my character in a special point in the city. On my main, I leave my mount in between the spires of Stormwind Cathedral, while my DK stands watch by the tomb in the graveyard and my shaman idles away under a tree in the Valley of Heroes. It gives me a familiar setting while I talk with my guildies and helps me focus on whatever the next important task I have.

When you're in town, do you try to put on a show? Do you wait anywhere significant? Or are you the type who doesn't linger in civilization for any longer than necessary?

Video App Demo: Webmail++

Raise your hand if you've ever found Web Outlook on your Mac ugly and unusable, particularly the "classic" style. Now, if you have an iPhone and have been forced to use this adomination of everything good about web design, you know that the painful gets even more painful when you have to constantly zoom into impossibly small targets. Of course all this would be precluded if you could use your personal iPhone with your company's Exchange server, but that isn't going to happen.

What do you do? First, take a look at Webmail++. This app scrapes off the gunky code in Web Outlook and presents it to you in an iOS-friendly format. For iPhone and iPad, the app does a good job of making Outlook on Webkit far more usable, even touch friendly. Check out the video for some nice touches, like floating menus.

Webmail++ isn't just for Outlook, however. You can connect Webmail++ to a number of email systems like Yahoo but some ISP webmail systems too, including RoadRunner and Comcast.

Trover Mobile Discovery app re-launched today

Trover joins the ranks of free GPS-powered apps for the iPhone that can guide you intelligently to places of interest near you or while traveling the world. It has some interesting twists that make it unique, giving it kind of a feel of Instagram meets Yelp. Trover had a limited release that required a Facebook login, but an update allows you to sign up using email or Twitter.

Developer Rich Barton told me the app tries to simulate the experience of walking around a neighborhood looking for food, or retail stores, or even a park as you discover things you might not otherwise notice. When you open the app you'll see thumbnails of pictures listed in order of distance to you. You can also take a picture yourself, add a description and comments, and it will be uploaded for the world to see. If you find friends or users who have similar interests, you can choose to share in their discoveries. I was surprised to find quite a few entries in my little corner of southern Arizona, and as more people sign up there will be more usable content.

If you read about a location, you will see it on a map and your own location so you can navigate to it. If you tap on the map you'll get directions from Google Maps.

There are some potential security issues with the app. If you take pictures around your home, or your backyard, your location is exposed to people looking at your messages. Your email remains private, but people can comment on your uploads. There's nothing to prevent the upload of offensive pictures, but the developers say any upload can be flagged by users, and if it is inappropriate it will be removed.

Trover is iPhone only, but an iPad version should appear early next year. I liked using the app, because it gives an extra dimension to search beyond what apps like FourSquare, Instagram and Yelp can provide. If you're interested in socially based discovery apps, Trover is free and worth a look.

A Pilot Survey of Post-Deployment Health Care Needs in Small Community-Based Primary Care Clinics

Background:
Relatively little is known regarding to what extent community-based primary care physicians are encountering post-deployment health care needs among veterans of the Afghanistan or Iraq conflicts and their family members.
Methods:
This pilot study conducted a cross-sectional survey of 37 primary care physicians working at small urban and suburban clinics belonging to a practice-based research network in the south central region of Texas.
Results:
Approximately 80% of the responding physicians reported caring for patients who have been deployed to the Afghanistan or Iraq war zones, or had a family member deployed. Although these physicians noted a variety of conditions related to physical trauma, mental illnesses and psychosocial disruptions such as marital, family, financial, and legal problems appeared to be even more prevalent among their previously deployed patients and were also noted among family members of deployed veterans.
Conclusions:
Community-based primary care physicians should be aware of common post-deployment health conditions and the resources that are available to meet these needs.

Time lag between oscillatory pressure and flow affecting accuracy of forced oscillation technique

Background:
The forced oscillation technique (FOT) is a simple method for assessing the oscillatory mechanics of the respiratory system. The oscillatory properties, respiratory system resistance (Rrs) and reactance (Xrs), are calculated from the oscillatory pressure / flow relationship. Although the FOT has been a well-established technique, some detailed experimental conditions would be different among institutions.
Methods:
We evaluated whether time lags produced by the experimental conditions such as different positions of the sensors can affect the accuracy of the FOT. If the position of the pressure sensor is different from the flow sensor, a time lag may occur in the measurements. The effect of the time lag was studied by numerical analysis.
Results:
Rrs was estimated to be increased and Xrs decreased with an increase in the time lag, especially at a high oscillatory frequency of the medium-frequency range (5-35 Hz). At the high-frequency range (10-500 Hz), Rrs and Xrs were strikingly different in the values of the time lag.
Conclusion:
A time lag between the oscillatory pressure and flow may be involved in the accuracy of the FOT, suggesting that it needs to be minimized or compensated for with signal processing. Researchers should pay attention to such detailed experimental conditions of the FOT apparatus.

Blue Angels Wow Crowd

PENSACOLA BEACH, Florida - Thousand of people hit Pensacola Beach for the annual summer aviation spectacular.

There are many reasons to see the Blue Angels in Pensacola, for many it's a tradition and for a lot of people it's a really big deal.

“It's a big deal because the blue angels are the BEST acrobatic team in the world, and I've seen a bunch even better than the Thunderbirds,” says Dontrell Wiggins from Navarre. The celebrities of Naval aviation wow a crowd of thousands in Pensacola Beach. It'll take more than bumper to bumper traffic and extreme heat to keep people away.

“What's heat when it comes to seeing airplanes do tricks like that man,” says Dylan Reed from Georgia. This is his 14th Blue Angels show and it’s also on his birthday. “Tradition just because I have so much fun every time I see the show, I've never had a bad time watching the blue angels and all the other planes fly.”

Daring stunts draw most people here--but for others it's a chance to admire America's military prowess.

“I am retired military and it lets fellow military demonstrate their skills and it's a great time,” says Carlos Lotze of Navarre Beach.

The spotlight has transferred from one star outfielder to another. Pence is now the object of a few teams' affections. The limelight that Carlos Beltran filled has been vacated.

The San Francisco Giants traded for his services, shoring up one of their most glaring needs. Now you have to count the Giants among the few teams that are the favorites to win the World Series.

The Giants should be feared, and the teams trying to get over them as title favorites know that. ESPN reports interest has ramped up for the Astros' Hunter Pence immediately after the Giants signed Beltran.

There is a problem though. The Astros are in no need to trade Pence, and are currently asking for the world if they are to trade him. They wants the stars of tomorrow, and they want them with a guarantee.

The same report states the Phillies, "offered their best pitching prospect, Jarred Cosart, and their best hitting prospect, Jonathan Singleton, along with another pitching prospect."

The Astros still crossed their arms and said no. They want nothing short of a few "sure" thing players for an outfielder that is locked up until 2013.

It is very unlikely that Pence will be traded. The Astros have no interest in actually seeing their prized outfielder go.

They are basically calling off any trades by demanding they receive compensation better suited for Albert Pujols. The Braves will have to look elsewhere to find a right-handed bat to bolster their lineup.

You can rest easy, Houston fans. In a week, Pence will still be in Houston with the club he started with. There is simply not enough talent in the world to satiate the Astros right now.

World of WarCrafts: Lightly Fried Lurker

World of WarCrafts spotlights art and creativity by WoW players, including fan art, cooking, comics, cosplay, music, fan fiction and more. Sample the whole spectrum on our Arts and Crafts in WoW page.

Cataclysm brought about a whole host of world changes to Azeroth's landscape, new talent trees to explore, and a ton of new quests and achievements. It also brought a whole ton of new recipes for aspiring Azerothian chefs and a bunch of new cooking achievements, to boot -- achievements that involve a whole heck of a lot of recipes for fish, which is only appropriate since a ton of new fishing achievements were added, too!

Some people love fish, some people hate it, and some chefs shy away from it, as it can be tricky to cook. But today's recipe is one of the easiest dinner recipes out there. Not only is it simple, it's delicious. This is actually a special recipe to me; it was my mother's, and I have no idea where she got it from originally. But whenever my mother fried up fish, it disappeared in a flash; we kids could never get enough of it. Thankfully, the recipe was passed on to us, and now I am passing it on to all of you -- deliciousness ought to be shared, after all. Let's wander into the kitchen and make ourselves a fish dinner, shall we?

Philadelphia Eagles Free Agency Rumors: The Buzz on Stephen Tulloch

About 24 hours ago, I thought I had the Eagles off-season figured out. The Eagles were going to trade Kevin Kolb to Arizona for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and an early round draft pick. The Eagles were also going to sign a defensive end and use the rest of their cap space resigning DeSean Jackson and filling out the roster.

Now the Eagles have added another player on their free agent wish list, Titans middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch. Tulloch is just 26 years old and has racked up over 100 tackles in back to back seasons including 159 tackles last season.

The Eagles rarely go after linebackers in free agency but with Stewart Bradley likely not to be resigned and a very young core of linebackers with little to no experience, signing Tulloch would make a lot of sense.

Risk For Heart Attack More Likely To Be Inherited Than Risk For Stroke

While both run in families, people are more likely to inherit a higher risk for heart attack than for stroke, concluded researchers whose findings should not only improve our understanding of how genes affect stroke risk, but also suggest we should probably have separate models for assessing heart attack and stroke risk. You can read their report in the 26 July online first issue of Circulation: Cardiovascular Genetics...

You posted about that fairy ring in Tirisfal last week ... at least people were calling it a fairy ring. What IS a fairy ring? Is it something that was in Warcraft before?

Nnamdi Asomugha Rumors: What Can the 49ers Offer Asomugha That the Jets Can't?

When you're the best player on a given free agent market, there are going to be a lot of rumors surrounding your name. Right now, Nnamdi Asomugha can vouch.

When free agency started on Tuesday morning, the New York Jets quickly established themselves as the frontrunner for Asomugha's services. And even though they signed wide receiver Santonio Holmes to a big deal on Wednesday afternoon, they did not pull out of the chase for the former Oakland Raiders cornerback.

Naturally, the Jets aren't alone. With the team set to release veteran corner Nate Clements on Thursday, the word around the campfire is that the San Francisco 49ers would love to add Asomugha to their own defense.

Talk about two completely different scenarios. If Asomugha goes to New York, he would join a surefire Super Bowl contender, and he would also be lining up next to one of the best corners in the game in Darrelle Revis. Signing with the Jets would also allow Asomugha to get that much closer to the post-football acting career that he apparently covets.

If Asomugha goes to the 49ers, on the other hand, he will be joining a team with a pretty dire outlook for 2011, and he will also be joining a defense that will likely be on the field quite a bit thanks to the team's inept offense.

However, ESPN's John Clayton says that we shouldn't count the Niners out of the Asomugha sweepstakes.

On Wednesday night, Clayton tweeted that there are two reasons Asomugha might pick the Niners. The first is that it would allow him to stay in the Bay Area, where he has been stationed for over a decade now, playing first for Cal and then for the Raiders. The second is that Asomugha might be drawn in by the idea of helping the 49ers push for a new stadium.

Presumably, the 49ers can offer Asomugha more money too, as they haven't exactly spent the first two days of the free agency period handing out big contracts.

So if the question is whether or not the 49ers can offer Asomugha things the Jets can't match, the answer is that they can actually offer quite a few things. Difference-making things at that.

Now that we know that, the pressure is on the Houston Texans to entice Asomugha. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle tweets that the Texas are "working hard" on Asomugha, just as many people thought they would.

What we have here, folks, is a good old fashioned bidding war. Should be fun.

The Daily Quest: What is that all about, anyway?

WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

I don't play Minecraft, although some people have been telling me I ought to play. I'm not sure I get what exactly it's all about -- and between that and general time constraints, I just haven't been interested in giving it a try. But man, when you see what people can do with the thing, it's kind of awe-inspiring, isn't it? Like the replication of Darnassus shown above. It's amazing how much detail you can get out of what look like virtual Lego bricks.

Today, we've got a random smattering of posts from around the blogosphere, including one involving Darnassus, lovely zone that it is.

Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our WoW Resources Guide for more WoW-related sites.

PayPal reportedly overcharging some customers for OS X Lion

OS X Lion is only supposed to cost US$29.99 to install on any Macs associated with your iTunes account. Some Lion buyers who purchased it through PayPal are seeing charges way higher than thirty bucks, however. Multiple users have reported the issue on Apple's support forums, and Lion buyer John Christman emailed us earlier today saying PayPal showed nearly $4000 in fees associated with Lion.

Apple support is now aware of the problem, and it's been classified as a "known issue" that they're looking into. Meanwhile, several affected customers are seeing their bank accounts significantly overdrawn, with all of the heinous additional bank fees that go along with that, so hopefully Apple also makes good on those additional fees.

If there's a lesson to draw from this, here it is: if you pay for iTunes purchases through PayPal, it's probably a good idea to switch to another payment method until this gets sorted out. If you haven't bought Lion yet and you're worried about paying 100 times more for it than you're supposed to, you can always pay for it with an iTunes gift card.

Temporary Apple Store coming to SoHo

Apple is preparing to open a temporary store at 72 Greene Street in SoHo, according to AppleInsider. The temporary store will offer retail sales on the ground floor and part of the second floor, while the basement will be used for inventory.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Apple will temporarily close the existing Apple Store at 103 Prince Street as it undergoes renovation, including the addition of a former post office's 5,000-square-foot retail space.

There is currently no word on when the temporary store will open, although AppleInsider speculates it will happen within the next few months.

NFL Free Agents 2011: Nnamdi Asomugha, All News and Analysis for Every Move in FA

2011 NFL free agency has started off with an absolute bang. Players like Nnamdi Asomugha and Antonio Cromartie are still unsigned, and I will monitor their progress closely. Where they land is going to have a huge determination on who comes out as winner and who comes out a loser in this unprecedented free agency period.

In the meantime, I will keep tabs on big spenders like the Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets.

Will the Jets re-sign their offensive guys like Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards? Or should they look to improve a defense that slipped last season after a dominating 2009 season?

Free agency is moving extremely quickly, so keep it locked here as I will be updating this as soon as I hear any concrete news. ESPN's Adam Schefter is going to be heavily relied on, as well as SportsCenter, Peter King and ProFootballTalk.

Which teams will surprise and emerge as spenders? Who's going to make that blockbuster deal? Which teams will surprise and stay put?

Brain Damage From Stroke Reduced With Natural Protein Given Up To 12 Hours Later

Giving mice a naturally occurring protein called alpha-B-crystallin that is made in the body, shrank brain lesions caused by stroke, even when treated 12 hours after the event, according to a new study by Stanford University School of Medicine researchers published early online today, 26 July, in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The study is important because it gives hope that the window of treatment can be extended, since the only approved current drug, a clot-buster, has to be given within 4...
