Anti-Psychotic Drug For Schizophrenia May Eliminate Cancer Stem Cells

Scientists have discovered that an anti-psychotic drug used to treat schizophrenia seems to eliminate cancer stem cells by helping them change into less threatening cell types. The finding, published in the journal Cell Press, was made after screening hundreds of compounds in search of those that would selectively inhibit human cancer stem cells. The discovery may be evaluated in a clinical trial in the very near future. Leading author, Mickie Bhatia, from McMaster University declared: "You have to find something that's truly selective for cancer stem cells...

Genes May Influence Quitting Success

A person's genetic make up may influence their chances of successfully giving up smoking, according to an NIH-funded study published in the 30 May online issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry. The authors say their findings support the idea there should be more individualized treatments to help people quit smoking. The study also suggests there may be a need to use genetic screening to identify those whose genes may make them more susceptible to nicotine addiction...

New HIV-Inhibiting Protein Identified

Scientists have identified a new HIV-suppressing protein in the blood of people infected with the virus. In laboratory studies, the protein, called CXCL4 or PF-4, binds to HIV such that it cannot attach to or enter a human cell. The research was led by Paolo Lusso, M.D., Ph.D., chief of the Section of Viral Pathogenesis in the Laboratory of Immunoregulation at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of NIH. Fantasy Baseball 2012: The Carlos Gonzalez Trade-Value Conundrum

The word "hot" does not even begin to describe Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez right now. His fantasy dominance is working at every level...and from every angle.

On Wednesday night against the Astros, Gonzalez belted three homers, while collecting four hits and four RBI. Two days prior, he tallied four hits; and four days before that (May 27), he crushed two homers against the Reds.

From a 15-day perspective, CarGo has six homers, 12 RBIs, 14 runs, one steal and a .362 batting average. From a 30-day window, it's nine homers, 23 RBIs, 23 runs, three steals and a .336 batting average.

And from a National League-only perspective for the season, Gonzalez (13 HR, 41 RBIs, 41 runs, seven steals, .323 batting) ranks first in runs scored, ninth in hits, third in homers, third in RBIs, 22nd in steals, 10th in batting, first in slugging (.629) and fourth in OPS (1.020).

Put it all together, and we're faced with a question I could never have anticipated at the end of April: If Gonzalez currently has better stats than Matt Kemp (12 HR, 28 RBIs, 30 runs, two steals, .355 batting), and Kemp is on his second go-round with a substantial hamstring injury, does it not make more sense to covet Gonzalez from this point forward, as well?

Obviously, outfield stars like Kemp, Josh Hamilton (21 HR, 57 RBI, 39 runs, four steals, .368 batting) and Ryan Braun (14 HR, 36 RBI, 34 runs, 10 steals, .309 batting) deserve to be at the top of owners' wish lists, when exploring trade upgrades at fantasy baseball's most vital position. But given his age (26), five-tool talent, spurt prowess, health track record and home ballpark (Coors Field), is Gonzalez the safest superstar of the bunch?

Call me crazy, but Gonzalez is the pick here, so much that I couldn't even conceive a 1-for-1 trade involving CarGo and a non-outfielder. His current value simply overwhelms that of any elite corner infielder or starting pitcher.

(For the record, AccuScore has Gonzalez projected for 21.3 homers, 71.5 RBI, 76.7 runs, 15.8 steals and a .287 batting average from this point forward—May 31 to Sept. 30.)

Here's a balanced, three-tiered breakdown of Gonzalez's trade value in 12-team roto leagues:

1-for-2
Gonzalez for Adam Jones/C.J. Wilson
Gonzalez for Andrew McCutchen/Matt Cain
Gonzalez for Ian Kinsler/Justin Verlander
Gonzalez for Mark Trumbo/Cole Hamels

1-for-3
Gonzalez for Matt Holliday/Anibal Sanchez/John Axford
Gonzalez for Jose Reyes/Gio Gonzalez/Ricky Romero
Gonzalez for Asdrubal Cabrera/Michael Bourn/Chris Sale
Gonzalez for Martin Prado/Josh Reddick/Madison Bumgarner

2-for-3
CarGo/Joe Mauer for Clayton Kershaw/Adrian Beltre/Yadier Molina
CarGo/Jason Kipnis for Robinson Cano/Jay Bruce/Jarrod Parker
CarGo/Jake Peavy for Curtis Granderson/Freddie Freeman/Kyle Lohse
CarGo/Stephen Strasburg for Joey Votto/Matt Garza/Edwin Encarnacion

Jay Clemons can be reached on Twitter, day or night, at @ATL_JayClemons.

In Parkinson's Disease, Blocking LRRK2 Activity Is Not A Simple Answer

Mutations in the LRRK2 gene are the most common cause of genetic Parkinson's disease (PD). New research published in BioMed Central's open access journal Molecular Neurodegeneration demonstrates that loss of function of LRRK2 (by deletion of the kinase domain) leads to changes in motor co-ordination and causes anxiety-like behaviors and kidney degeneration in mice without affecting dopamine-mediated brain activity. The protein LRRK2 is involved in regulating the structure and function of neurons...

NBA Draft 2012: How Lottery Results Changed Chad Ford's Mock Draft

The 2012 NBA draft order is set!

I'd like to pat myself on the back for calling the Charlotte Bobcats slipping to the No. 2 pick

Moving on from personal congratulations, the New Orleans Hornets have the top pick and we could've penciled in Anthony Davis no matter who was picking No. 1. But let's take a look at how Chad Ford's mock draft changed after Wednesday night's NBA draft lottery.

The top-three teams in the upcoming draft have all been shuffled up from their lottery slotting. Instead of Charlotte, Washington and Cleveland, it will be New Orleans, Charlotte and Washington.

Despite this change, Ford had no need for an eraser at the top of his mock draft. Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Bradley Beal stay put.

This simply means that these three are the best three players in this draft as of now. According to Ford, they will go in that order no matter the teams' needs.

The first change comes at No. 4. Once expected to be the lucky New Orleans Hornets, the Cleveland Cavaliers will pick here.

Ford had power forward Thomas Robinson going to New Orleans. Now that the Cavs are picking fourth, he has them taking Harrison Barnes, the small forward out of UNC. This is a two-spot jump for Barnes.

Robinson and center Andre Drummond still go back-to-back in Version 5.0—like they did in Version 4.0—but they each dropped down a slot to pave the way for Barnes.

Ohio State forward Jared Sullinger made a nice jump from No. 12 to No. 7. Ford states that the Golden State Warriors, who went seven as predicted, are pretty high on Sullinger and might want to go with a more proven player than Perry Jones III.

PJ3 (should I coin it?) switched spots with Sullinger on the thinking that Jones was too big of a gamble.

After Sullinger, Dion Waiters (No. 8), Damian Lillard (No. 10) and Jeremy Lamb (No. 11) all stay put.

At No. 9, though, despite the Detroit Pistons going ninth as expected, Ford switched to John Henson as the their selection. Henson wasn't even a lottery pick in Ford's previous mock draft, but he cites the Pistons' need for an athletic, shot-blocking big to go along with Greg Monroe.

For the Phoenix Suns at No. 13, Ford replaced Austin Rivers with Terrence Ross, a 2-guard with potential star power. The Suns "need a little bit of everything," but he maintains that there biggest need is at shooting guard.

Lastly, Tyler Zeller drops from No. 9 to No. 14, where the Houston Rockets will be selecting. Ford thinks Zeller will go anywhere from No. 8 to No. 14.

It may just be hours since we've figured out which teams are picking in what positions, but our mock draft experts are running wild. Let's see where Chad Ford takes us next.

Apple iPad prototype with dual charging docks listed on eBay

From time to time, Apple prototype devices will make their way to eBay. Usually, they're iterations of the device's final design, but this latest one to hit the auction site is really different - it's an iPad with two dock connectors.

As noted by MacRumors, the tablet device includes a standard portrait connector and a second one for connecting in landscape. Both ports work for charging and syncing the iPad. It's also running Apple's test software SwitchBoard and has several other markings that suggest it is legitimate.

According to the listing, the prototype was disabled before it was discarded, but the seller has restored as much functionality as possible to the device. The eBay auction will end late on Monday May 28 (PDT) and, at the writing of this post, has 19 bids with a current topper of US$10,000.

Archos Arnova 80 Cobalt sidles up to the FCC, leaves little to the imagination

Image

Archos' line of Android tablets aren't really known for setting consumer tongues a-wagging; those honors are typically reserved for more bold-faced OEMs. As a low-cost alternative to pricier offerings, however, they make mighty fine sense. And one such slate's just swung by the Commission's gates, showing off its shiny black posterior, FCC ID (SOVAC80CO) and Arnova branding. The 80 Cobalt, as its referred to in the docs, appears to be a WiFi-only affair in keeping with its market positioning and, judging from its measurements, is likely to join the ranks of other 8-inch tabs. Hit up the source below to scour the dense fog of RF tests and legalese, if you're so inclined.

Oakland Raiders' New Attitude Will Take Them to the Top of the AFC West

Shortly after the end of another disappointing season for the Oakland Raiders in 2011, general manager Reggie McKenzie was hired and given the difficult task of putting the pieces together to get the Silver and Black back on the winning track.

A little more than four months later, McKenzie has already shown himself to be a true leader who knows what it takes to get the job done.

When he was introduced during the press conference back in January, he stated, "no matter who the player was on the team, they would all have to continue to prove themselves, and every single one had their job on the line," noting that was the only way to get the Silver and Black to the great team they should be.

McKenzie has followed through with those words, and his passion for excellence has spread throughout the franchise, exemplifying his exceptional ability as a leader of one of the most legendary teams in NFL history.

Video: Watch Toyota celebrate UAE launch of GT 86

Toyota GT-86 in the UAE

Toyota has officially launched the company's GT 86 sportscar in the United Arab Emirates. The Japanese automaker rolled out the rear-drive hero with a fancy new video shot in the hills around Fujairah. With plenty of drifting, tire smoke and slow motion, the clip serves as a proper introduction to the lightweight coupe. Judging by the quick video, there are a few market-specific changes to the UAE Toyota GT 86, including the availability of one very massive rear wing. The piece has more than a passing resemblance to the exaggerated aero work found on the lusty Subaru WRX STI sedan.

Will the Toyota GT 86 find favor in the UAE? We certainly think it's got a shot. If there's a more car-obsessed culture on this planet than the one found in the U.S., it lies in the well-funded Middle East. You can check out the launch video for yourself by scrolling below, or head over to the Toyota UAE Facebook page for a little more information.

Apple looking to hire engineers at Israel R&D facility

We've heard that Apple intends to step up hiring at a new research center in Israel, and here is more evidence of that effort. Two new job listings have appeared on Apple's site for physical design engineers in Haifa, Israel, showing that Apple is getting serious about building out its new R&D center.

These engineers will work on designs for "system-on-a-chip" implementations. Which, of course, is exactly the kind of technology that Apple is so good at stuffing into tiny mobile devices. The open positions are high level placements, with job requirements that expect to see these SoC designs from beginning to end. It'll probably take Apple a while to fill these positions with the right people, so we likely won't see actual chips come out of these facilities for a while. But the company clearly has an eye forward to making the site there an important one for Apple's future devices.

Mists of Pandaria Beta: A first look at Battleground blacklisting

Image
Following on from today's Breakfast Topic on your favorite Battlegrounds, we're really excited to bring you the latest news from Pandaria: Battleground blacklisting is live in the beta!

This long-anticipated feature allows the world-weary PvPer to go through the list and click a thumbs down icon to the right of a highlighted Battleground. You can see what the icon looks like before it is selected on the highlighted Arathi Basin on the header image. Once the little icon is red, as you can see in the header image on Alterac Valley and Strand of the Ancients, those Battlegrounds are blacklisted. When you queue for a random Battleground, those two will be excluded from your random list.

It should be noted that the weekly Call to Arms Battleground cannot be blacklisted -- the "thumbs down" icon doesn't appear next to it. However, as you probably know, the Call to Arms changes every week, so the Battleground in question can go back onto your blacklist straight after the Call to Arms is over.

You can blacklist a maximum of two maps at a time. To un-blacklist, simply uncheck the symbol.
Image
Being a crafty PvPer, I immediately begged a favor from the lovely Anne Stickney to see if we could blacklist more than two Battlegrounds by joining as a group. It turns out that Blizzard had already thought of that, believe it or not, and the the join as group function is currently disabled.

It's open warfare between Alliance and Horde in Mists of Pandaria, World of Warcraft's next expansion. Jump into five new levels with new talents and class mechanics, try the new monk class, and create a pandaren character to ally with either Horde or Alliance. Look for expansion basics in our Mists FAQ, or dig into our spring press event coverage for more details!

Fantasy Football 2012: 8 Non-Starters to Keep Your Eye On

If you are only focusing on starting skilled position players during the offseason, training camp and throughout your fantasy football drafts, your fantasy squad will be as doomed as Terrell Owens’ arena football career.

Backup quarterbacks, running backs and receivers can have fantasy value, too! Some may only have value when the injury-prone starters in front of them tear their yearly ACLs or bruise their buttocks, and some may have value just because they rack up a lot of yards and scores with the little playing time they are given, but you cannot just forget about second-stringers when putting together your fantasy cheat sheets.

So here are 8 non-starters that fantasy football owners should keep an eye on:

Tim Tebow, New York Jets (QB)

At worst, Tebow will be on the field five to 10 plays per game for the Jets in their Wildcat package, with likely some of those snaps coming down by the end zone. And at best, Tebow could be the starting quarterback as soon as the first month of the season if Mark Sanchez continues to be a turnover factory.

Tebow may not be the prettiest passer, but his nose for touchdowns (12 passing TD, six rushing TD in 2011) and rushing yards (71 more than Michael Vick last year) forces fantasy owners to watch him.

John Skelton, Arizona Cardinals (QB)

Kevin Kolb makes multiple millions more, so he is Arizona’s starting quarterback—for now. The strong-armed Skelton threw for 1,913 yards in half a season in 2011, and if he wrests the starting job away from Kolb he would have all-world Larry Fitzgerald and first-round phenom Michael Floyd as his wide receivers while having another year of experience under his belt.

Ben Tate, Houston Texans (RB)

Tate was Arian Foster’s backup last season and still managed to outrush several starting running backs. His 942 yards was more than Pittsburgh’s Rashard Mendenhall, Carolina’s DeAngelo Williams and Buffalo’s Fred Jackson each put up.

Tate’s straight-ahead rushing style works perfectly with Houston’s zone-blocking scheme, hence his 5.4 yards per carry last season. Even if Foster does not encounter any anti-awesomeness in his hamstring again, Tate could still run for 1,000 yards.

Peyton Hillis, Kansas City Chiefs (RB)

Hillis is only two years removed from a season where he amassed 1,177 rushing yards, 477 receiving yards and 13 total touchdowns. With Jamaal Charles coming off a torn ACL, and with Hillis not being the cover boy for Madden ‘13, Hillis could return to his blue-collar rumbling form and be a fantasy force once again.

David Wilson, New York Giants (RB)

New York’s top tailback, Ahmad Bradshaw, has more metal in his feet than there is at a Metallica concert, so there is always a chance one shoestring tackle might sideline him for weeks. That’s why Wilson was drafted in the first round by the Giants. This speedy rookie could be thrust into a starting role at any time depending on Bradshaw’s shaky health.

Michael Bush, Chicago Bears (RB)

Bush proved he could be a full-time starter by rushing for 977 yards with the Oakland Raiders last season, yet the best deal he could get in the offseason came from the Bears, who already have Matt Forte. It is unclear how the Forte-Bush carry splitting will shake out, but Bush is someone who should not be ignored on fantasy draft day.

Evan Royster, Washington Redskins (RB)

The jury is still out on whether Roy Helu will turn out to be the next Jim Brown, so Royster is someone to peg during the middle-to-late rounds of fantasy drafts. He averaged an outstanding 5.9 yards per carry during his rookie campaign and finished the season with back-to-back 100-yard games. If Helu stutters at all at season’s start, Royster will steal his spot.

Randy Moss, San Francisco 49ers (WR)

We all witnessed how awful Moss looked and behaved as he bounced from New England to Minnesota to Tennessee to retirement in 2010. But after taking a year off, Moss may be coming back with fresher legs and a finer attitude as he makes one last hurrah before concluding his Hall of Fame career.

Moss will probably not beat out Michael Crabtree or Mario Manningham on the depth chart, but if San Fran uses him as a long-range threat in three-wide receiver packages he can still be valuable, especially in distance leagues where longer touchdowns are worth bonus points.

4K TV already being trialed by one UK broadcaster

4K in the UK? It could happen sooner rather than later, if viewers give a thumbs up to feedback tests currently being conducted by a British broadcaster. According to a senior figure at a company that is directly involved in the experiments, people are being asked if they can spot the difference between 4K and regular 1920 x 1080, which will help to decide whether the format is worthy of immediate investment. Our source refused to reveal which broadcaster is running the show, beyond saying that it has complete control over its pipeline right down to the set-top box, which hints at Sky or perhaps Virgin being likely candidates. When asked how 4K TV might be transmitted as a mainstream service, given that it contains four times the resolution of Full HD, he simply replied that the broadcaster would "compress the hell out of it," which surely only cements his credibility. Next stop, 8K.

Every week, just at the start of the weekend, we catch up with the WoW Insider staff and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" -- otherwise known as: WRUP. Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game, and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!

In case you've been living under a rock the last 24 hours or so, one of the biggest stories in the gaming world right now is the collapse of 38 Studios and Big Huge Games. We didn't really cover it, since we're a World of Warcraft-focused site, but we're all gamers here. It stings to see an MMORPG crash and burn, but it hurts even more to see the devastation that the sudden fall of two companies in the industry has caused.

The situation for folks at 38 Studios is somewhat grim right now, though that's nothing new. Most of them had been working without pay since the beginning of the month. A lot of them were depending on the health insurance their job provided -- coverage which has since expired. All of them were just like us -- gamers at heart who just wanted to do something really cool to entertain you. Twitter has been rallying to help, but it's impossible to look at the situation without wishing there was something more you could do.

Beyond the employees, there are a lot of other victims of this debacle too. The taxpayers of Rhode Island are on the hook for a massive loan made to keep 38 afloat -- a loan which could total over $112 million by the time all is said and done. That's a $100 charge to every man, woman, and child currently living in the state. A number of Rhode Island officials who stuck their necks out for 38 have resigned in disgrace, though arguably, they had a lot to be disgraced over. I guess what I'm saying is that it's a bad situation all around.

Well, almost all around. One of the few people who got away clean, ironically, is company founder Curt Schilling, the baseball player who inexplicably started a video games company. He wrote himself a $4 million check from the 38 Studios bank account a few months ago, money that could have -- and should have -- gone to pay his employees that he watched work without pay. As someone from "Red Sox Nation," I feel I have the right to say this: Screw that guy.

So yeah, before we head into this week's WRUP, I want to have a brief moment of silence for 38 Studios and all the folks who were hurt by its downfall.

Now approaching two years of Real ID -- did it work?

Image
It's been just about two years since the Real ID feature was introduced to World of Warcraft. This feature unintentionally created some of the hottest debates when it was introduced, largely because it meant the friends you chatted with on Real ID would be able to see your first and last name. The topic became even more heated when it was announced that player's real names would be automatically shown on Blizzard's forums, something that went over like a lead balloon.

I mentioned from the beginning, on a quiet post on my old blog (Warning: language) that while I thought the feature was interesting enough, it wasn't interesting enough for me to use it. So where do I stand, two years later? I have exactly five people on my Real ID, and they're all coworkers with one exception, a friend I wanted to help out on a cross-server raid. I still don't care for Real ID, but it does come in handy every now and again. I'm still not going to use it widely.

So two years after all the roaring, screeching, and general madness ... how did Real ID go over? Was it a success?

2013 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Convertible Stops By, Shows Off New Retro Rearview Mirror

Al Oppenheiser sweats the details. The Camaro chief engineer pulled the frameless rearview mirror off of his ?68 and told those responsible for the modern car?s reflective surfaces to ?make me one like that.? Cryptococcus Protected By Titan Cells During Infection

Giant cells called "titan cells" protect the fungus Cryptococcus neoformans during infection, according to two University of Minnesota researchers. Kirsten Nielsen, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the department of microbiology, and recent Ph.D. recipient Laura Okagaki believe their discovery could help develop new ways to fight infections caused by Cryptococcus. The findings will be published in the June issue of the journal Eukaryotic Cell. The study was funded by the National Institutes of Health and the University of Minnesota's Medical School...

2012 BMW M6 Convertible Test: 0 to 60 mph in Four Flat

The 2012 BMW M6 convertible is a puzzling machine. Two conundrums, for example, present themselves immediately upon use of the primary controls. The first is trivial: the presence of a narrow, three-pedal-style brake-pedal pad in a car with no clutch pedal. The second is of infinitely more import to an enthusiast, being that this is [...]

Functional region prediction with a set of appropriate homologous sequences-an index for sequence selection by integrating structure and sequence information with spatial statistics

Background:
The detection of conserved residue clusters on a protein structure is one of the effective strategies for the prediction of functional protein regions. Various methods, such as Evolutionary Trace, have been developed based on this strategy. In such approaches, the conserved residues are identified through comparisons of homologous amino acid sequences. Therefore, the selection of homologous sequences is a critical step. It is empirically known that a certain degree of sequence divergence in the set of homologous sequences is required for the identification of conserved residues. However, the development of a method to select homologous sequences appropriate for the identification of conserved residues has not been sufficiently addressed. An objective and general method to select appropriate homologous sequences is desired for the efficient prediction of functional regions.
Results:
We have developed a novel index to select the sequences appropriate for the identification of conserved residues, and implemented the index within our method to predict the functional regions of a protein. The implementation of the index improved the performance of the functional region prediction. The index represents the degree of conserved residue clustering on the tertiary structure of the protein. For this purpose, the structure and sequence information were integrated within the index by the application of spatial statistics. Spatial statistics is a field of statistics in which not only the attributes but also the geometrical coordinates of the data are considered simultaneously. Higher degrees of clustering generate larger index scores. We adopted the set of homologous sequences with the highest indexscore, under the assumption that the best prediction accuracy is obtained when the degree of clustering is the maximum. The set of sequences selected by the index led to higher functional region prediction performance than the sets of sequences selected by other sequence-based methods.
Conclusions:
Appropriate homologous sequences are selected automatically and objectively by the index. Such sequence selection improved the performance of functional region prediction. As far as we know, this is the first approach in which spatial statistics have been applied t o protein analyses. Such integration of structure and sequence information would be useful for other bioinformatics problems.

The Light and How to Swing It: The framework for our Mists rotation

Image
Every week, WoW Insider brings you The Light and How to Swing It for holy, protection and retribution paladins. Protection specialist Matt Walsh spends most of his time receiving concussions for the benefit of 24 other people, obsessing over his hair (a blood elf racial!), and maintaining the tankadin-focused blog Righteous Defense.

The biggest change for players with every expansion is undeniably getting acclimated to the new and different buttons that one has to work with, ie, the new rotation. If you poll players on their least favorite part of the next phase of the game rolling over, invariably a large percent will shout how annoyed they are with "having to relearn their class." Some abilities which were juggernauts are suddenly akin to balloons with the air rushing out of them, others that were middle of the road also-rans are suddenly hot tickets. Getting to the point where you once again have a good sense of your class is often a pain.

While the beta is far from final, and the numbers are (of course) subject to change many times over, we're still at a point where we can begin to make some sense out of the design-equivalent of watching sausage being made. We won't know be able to say with 100% conviction which fillers are best when and where, but we can assuredly say what the framework of the rotation will be.

Boundary Stops Molecule Right Where It Needs To Be

A molecule responsible for the proper formation of a key portion of the nervous system finds its way to the proper place not because it is actively recruited, but instead because it can't go anywhere else. Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine have identified a distal axonal cytoskeleton as the boundary that makes sure AnkyrinG clusters where it needs to so it can perform properly. The findings appear in the current edition of Cell. "It has been known that AnkyrinG is needed for the axon initial segment to form...

Arsenal: 5 Youngsters Who Could See First-Team Action Next Season

With Arsenal raring for a run at the 2012-13 Premier League title, it is likely that manager Arsene Wenger will look to experience ahead of unproven (but talented) youth when constructing his first-team lineups.

But there is always the off-chance that a Jack Wilshere or an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (or a Cesc Fabregas so many years either of them) could emerge in the early portions of next season and make such an impression that Wenger is given no choice but to play him on a consistent basis.

After all, if there's one thing Wenger has shown during his 16 seasons at the helm in north London, he is not afraid of playing youth.

Premiership appearances may be at a premium next season, but there's every reason to think that the newest batch of talented Arsenal youngsters could crack the first team for the Carling and FA Cups—at least in the opening rounds.

Here's five who could make that type of mark.

Jetpack Joyride goes to the dogs

Man, Halfbrick's just not giving up on Jetpack Joyride. We just recently had a huge gadgets update for the game that added all sorts of tweaks to the jetpack action, and now here's another big update, out today, that gives Barry Steakfries a canine pal to run around with. Flash the Dog is coming to the update, and as you can see in the trailer below, he's cute as all get out.

Flash will help grab coins and break piggy banks for you, and he'll even ride along, both in his own little jetpack, and by hopping on the various vehicles Barry can acquire during his run. There are a few new other gadgets as well, including headphones that remix the game's music, and a "turbo boost" gadget that will add rings to hit for an extra burst of speed. Jetpack Joyride was a really high quality game when it first launched, and Halfbrick has really gone above and beyond the call of duty with all of these updates since then.

Mists of Pandaria Arena Pass Realm: PvP Sandbox?

Image
If you're signed up to the 2012 Arena Pass realm, chances are you're fairly into your PvP. I can imagine that you, like me, are daydreaming about the changes to your favourite class in Mists of Pandaria, and wondering what you'll be playing when the Pandas come to town. Maybe you're thinking of switching your main PvP character to something different, or, like me, wondering whether a pandaren will actually be the best race for your preferred class.

Wouldn't it be great if there was some way you could have a go with a max-level, fully geared character shortly after the start of Mists before you had to make such a big decision? Guess what? If you signed up for the 2012 Arena Pass realm, it's likely that you can!

Blizz Blue Nakatoir posted the following a few weeks back, in a dark corner of the EU forums:

Nakatoir
Sorry to come back to this so late. But I just wanted to let you know that we plan to have the level 90 realm up as soon as possible after the release of Mists of Pandaria, it may even be accessible within weeks after the release but this is not guaranteed.

"What does this mean for me?" you might ask, well this means that you may be able to access the Mists Arena Pass realm and get the epic PvP gear long before it is possible to have close to the same level of gear on the live realms. So you may be able to have access to the best PvP gear on the Arena Pass realm before most people will even have any on the live realms. :O

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty excited about this!

Scattered Shots: Beta nerfs to hunter self-heals

Every Thursday, WoW Insider brings you Scattered Shots for beast mastery, marksmanship and survival hunters. Frostheim of Warcraft Hunters Union and the hunter podcast uses logic and science (mixed with a few mugs of dwarven stout) to look deep into the hunter class. Mail your hunter questions to Frostheim.

The Mists of Pandaria beta giveth, and the Mists of Pandaria beta taketh away. The latest beta patch did a little bit of both, giving MM hunters some love while cutting back on some of the presents we saw early in the beta.

It's probably also worth noting that we saw the new minor Glyph of Fetch, which commands your pet to fetch loot from a nearby corpse. This way the hunters of the world can focus full-time on killing while our loyal companion dash around picking the pockets of the fallen and bringing in the spoils of war.

The big news this patch is the overall reduction of the new and boosted hunter self-heals that Mists of Pandaria is bringing hunters. At the same time, MM is receiving a substantial focus regen boost.
