Rapamycin inhibition of baculovirus recombinant (BVr) ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (S6K1) is mediated by an event other than phosphorylation.

Background:
Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1(S6K1) is an evolutionary conserved kinase that is activated in response to growth factors and viral stimuli to influence cellular growth and proliferation. This downstream effector of target of rapamycin (TOR) signaling cascade is known to be directly activated by TOR- kinase mediated phosphorylation at the hydrophobic motif (HM) at Threonine 412 (T412). Selective loss of this phosphorylation by inactivation of TOR kinase or activation/recruitment of a phosphatase has accordingly been implicated in mediating inhibition by rapamycin.FindingsWe present evidence that baculovirus driven expression of S6K1 in insect cells (Sf9) fails to activate the enzyme and instead renders it modestly active representing 4-6 folds less activity than its fully active mammalian counterpart. Contrary to the contention that viral infection activates TOR signaling pathway, we report that BVr enzyme fails to exhibit putative TOR dependent phosphorylation at the HM and the resultant phosphorylation at the activation loop (AL) of the enzyme, correlating with the level of activity observed. Surprisingly, the BVr enzyme continued to exhibit sensitivity to rapamycin that remained unaffected by mutations compromised for TOR phosphorylation (T412A) or deletions compromised for TOR binding ([increment]NH 2-46/[increment]CT104).
Conclusions:
These data together with the ability of the BVr enzyme to resist inactivation by phosphatases indicate that inhibition by rapamycin is not mediated by any phosphorylation event in general and TOR dependent phosphorylation in particular.

Flu Virus Discovered In Bats

Scientists from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have discovered evidence of a new influenza type A virus in Guatemalan fruit bats. While they don't believe the virus poses a threat to humans in its current form, they say more research should be done, because bats could act as a gene-swapping reservoir where the virus acquires genetic material that could make it a threat to human health in the future. They write about their findings in the 27 February online issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The lead author of the study is Dr...

Olympus OM-D E-M5 Micro Four Thirds camera to ship on March 31st? (update: now April)

If a ship date pops up on Amazon for a date in the not-so-distant future, we're typically inclined to listen up -- after all, the world's largest e-tailer probably has a fairly good idea of when its products will first leave the warehouse. This time, it's the Olympus OM-D E-M5, which just appeared on the distributor's Japanese site with an estimated release date of March 31st. There's no mention of a date on the company's U.S. site, however, so it's still unclear whether or not the Micro Four Thirds cam will hit North American shores on the 31st as well. Still, unless a trip to Japan is in the cards for the end of Q1, your best bet for getting early access to the highly-anticipated mirrorless cam would probably be to get your pre-order on at our coverage link below.

Update: We're now seeing US retailers listing the device with an April 10th release date. Check the More Coverage links below.

World of Warcraft patch 4.3.3 64-bit client

Blizzard has released new 64-bit clients for patch 4.3.3 today. Keep in mind that you need to remove the previous 64-bit client files before patching. After that's done, you can install these files:

Windows patch 4.3.3 64-bit client download link
Mac patch 4.3.3 64-bit client download link

As a reminder, the 64-bit client is also considered a beta product, even though you can use it on the live realms. But with that said, most people experience only good things and no real problems with the 64-bit version of WoW. But if you do run into problems, be sure to let Blizzard know about them.

If you have no idea what any of this means, take a look at our brief explainer of the difference between 32- and 64-bit game clients.

The full Blizzard post after the break.

Snagit 2.0 arrives with expanded feature set (updated)

TechSmith's powerful Snagit app for capturing and annotating screenshots or websites has been around for a little over a year, having first been reviewed on TUAW in November 2010. Today Snagit (US$49.95) has been updated to version 2.0, expanding the capabilities of the app to a higher level.

Screen capture apps like Snagit are extremely popular with bloggers, since they give us the opportunity to capture entire screens or details of apps for review purposes. For example, if I need to grab screenshots of Wirecast screens for a review, I'll click on the Snagit button that floats constantly in the upper right of my Mac screen.

That action (or just moving my cursor over the button) opens up a tiny window populated with buttons for capturing video or still imagery, along with toggles for including the cursor in my screen capture or snagging the images to the clipboard. With a click on a big red button, a set of crosshairs appears on the screen -- moving the cursor around highlights different areas to capture, and clicking on the screen either captures a still image or begins the recording process for video.

The new features in version 2.0 provide a lot of power. For those who are working to capture screen video for post-processing in Camtasia to create screencasts, Snagit not only captures video of what's happening on the screen but can grab a video narration still image from a webcam. Video now outputs to Camtasia, TechSmith's Screencast.com service, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and FTP. Users just need to set up accounts in advance for one-click uploads to those sites and services. For image captures (not video), your masterpiece can now be sent to Facebook, Twitter and Evernote.

The powerful image editor in Snagit now adds a number of new stamps. My favorites are the OS X and iOS interface stamps, made up of common interface elements that you can select, stamp, move, and resize. There are new color filters for grayscale, sepia, and inverting images, as well as a way to change the canvas color.

Another screenshot app that is popular with bloggers is Ambrosia Software's Snapz Pro X ($69.95), but at the present time it doesn't include editing and annotation tools for images, nor does it have the breadth of social networking links of Snagit. Note that if you're looking for a tool that will let you add effects, callouts, and more to captured video, you'll probably want to skip Snagit and go with TechSmith's Camtasia. A review of the latest version of Camtasia can be found here.

The update is free available to existing owners of Snagit for $24.95.

Diff Case is a fun, multi-function iPhone case

The Diff Case is a different case because, unlike others, it is a multitasker. It has a privacy cover and sun shade that, when closed, protects the iPhone's screen from scratches. When open, it serves to block the sun and the prying eyes of the person sitting next to you on the bus.

The Diff Case is also a full-surround bumper that protects your phone from bumps, drops and the weather. It has a funny little hump on the bottom left that gives you something to grasp when you hold the phone. This ridge also houses a vertical and horizontal tripod mount which lets you use your phone to shoot photos and record videos like a pro. If that isn't enough, there's an opening for a carabiner and a key-ring accessory that screws into the tripod mount. If you're creative enough, you can probably find even more uses for the Diff Case.

You can read about the Diff Case on the case maker's website. It's compatible with the iPhone 4 and 4S on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. You can get the black version now for US$34.95 and other colors like white, hot pink and red will be available starting March 10.

Our top ten wishes for the next-generation iPad

The minute the announcement about the third-generation iPad rollout next Wednesday hit the TUAW newsroom, just about everyone was throwing out ideas about what they'd like to see in the new model. Here are our top ten wishes for what we want to see in whatever is announced on March 7:

1. Retina Display

There's not enough detail in the picture on the invitation (above) to really discern whether or not the new device will have a Retina display, but it's one of the most likely new features to appear. There have been leaked photos of an alleged display part for the next-generation iPad that show a doubling in pixel density, so we expect to see a new and much enhanced display.

2. Improved Processor

To power those extra pixels, iPad: TNG is going to need more horsepower under the hood. So far we have two possibilities: a faster version of the dual-core Apple A5 (rumored to be the A5X -- see below) and a quad-core processor called the A6. Since these systems-on-a-chip also contain the system RAM, we may finally see a doubling of RAM to a full 1 GB ... or at least that's what we're hoping.

3. One Unit, Mulitple Carriers

Right now, Apple has to sell two different versions of the iPad 2 -- one for GSM carriers and the other for CDMA carriers like Verizon. As with the iPhone 4S, we'd expect to see the next-generation iPad come with the capability of running on all networks. I think this is a no-brainer for the new iPad, as it reduces Apple's iPad SKUs by three.

4. 4G LTE

There's a lot of debate here at TUAW about whether or not iPad: TNG will come with 4G LTE built in. On the plus side, Apple could compete with the plethora of Android tablets that are equipped with 4G LTE. On the other hand, 4G LTE still isn't widespread in most countries and battery life for LTE devices is still an issue, so would Apple be willing to sacrifice battery life in order to notch a competitive edge on the proverbial belt? We don't think so.

5. Better Cameras

This is one wish that I personally don't care about, since I don't take photos with my iPad or use it all that much for video calls. But once again, the technology is available and Apple already has the 8 MP rear-facing camera in the iPhone 4S. My personal opinion is that this is a no-brainer, and that the next-generation iPad will have an 8 MP rear-facing camera as well as a front-facing HD (1280 x 720 pixel, AKA 720p) camera for FaceTime. After all, the new Macs are using 720p FaceTime HD, and we all know that Apple doesn't care how much bandwidth we're using... A front-facing HD camera would be a nice boost form the current VGA model in the existing iPads.

6. Siri

Another point of contention amongst the TUAW bloggers is whether or not Siri will make it to the new iPad. Those of us who use Siri a lot think it's a natural for the new device, while others don't think it has a place on a larger device. I'd personally love to use Siri's excellent voice dictation capabilities for writing texts, notes, and reminders on the iPad. Should Siri find a place to live on the new iPad, the device will most likely get the dual noise-cancelling microphone setup that is used to feed the brains of Siri with high-quality voice input.

7. Stereo Speakers

While the existing monaural speaker of the first and second generation iPads is "pretty good," especially when compared to (according to Dave Caolo) the Nook Color, a set of good stereo speakers on the bottom of the device would be a welcome addition. Since a lot more people may be using their iPads to watch movies on that Retina display, why not add better sound quality?

8. "Button-free" Design

Another debate that has been raging through the newsroom is whether Apple will discard the current physical home button for a "virtual" button that's just an extension of the touch-sensitive display. My personal opinion is that they wouldn't do this -- people have become accustomed to feeling for the home button with their fingers, and unless Apple can provide a haptic display of some sort, they won't tamper with success. Then again, maybe that's what Apple is hinting with that "And touch" comment on the invitation.

9. More Storage

The current iPad comes in 16, 32, and 64 GB flavors. While this might just be a requirement for some of our bloggers, there seems to be a difference of opinion on whether or not a 128 GB edition should be added. For those who like to watch a lot of video on their iPads, 128 GB would be a welcome addition. Some of the bloggers think that Apple won't expand storage since they want price points to remain fairly static and the Retina display will cost more than the existing display; others think that Apple will add a 128 GB model and just charge more for the luxury of more storage.

10. "Smarter" Covers

The Smart Cover was introduced with the iPad 2 and provides a way to turn the display on and off without reaching for the power or home button. Several of our bloggers want to see a newer version of the Smart Cover. How could it be improved? How about getting rid of the sharp edges? Another idea was to build a solar clock and calculator "with big buttons" into the cover so one could check the time and do taxes without having to fire up the ol' iPad.

That's our list of the most wished-for items for the next-generation iPad. What would you like to see? Leave your comments below.

New Mercedes-Benz car line to embrace iPhone 4S, Siri

Mercedes-Benz is making it easy for iPhone owners to use their handset in the car with a new in-car system that "puts the iPhone on wheels." The automaker is introducing a new A-Class line of cars which will have an updated COMAND infotainment system that's centered on the iPhone 4S.

Not only can you access music from your phone, the new Digital DriveStyle App and its companion Drive Kit Plus for the iPhone lets you use Siri to send and listen to messages. You can also access stock quotes, retrieve the local weather forecast and review your upcoming appointments.

Mercedes is the first automaker to embrace Siri in its Digital DriveStyle App and in-car infotainment system. The Siri-driven system will debut in the European-only A-Class line this spring and then land in the B-, C- and E-Class models later this year. This new line of Mercedes Benz A-Class cars will be on display at the upcoming Geneva auto show.

The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class is "always on": Mercedes-Benz puts the iPhone(R) on wheels

Stuttgart. Mercedes-Benz is making smartphones mobile and ensuring that such electronic assistants will in future be fully linked into the car's infotainment system.

First off the blocks is the Apple(R) iPhone(R), which Mercedes-Benz has now integrated comprehensively into the user experience concept of the new A-Class, as the first automotive manufacturer in the world to take this step. Thanks to a new "Digital DriveStyle App", developed in-house, together with the "Drive Kit Plus for the Apple(R) iPhone(R)", drivers can now access all the key content of their Apple(R) iPhone(R) through the in-vehicle display and enjoy safe and convenient operation of the device via the Controller on the center armrest. The attractive 'look' is ensured by the revolutionary user interface design. In a further world premiere, Mercedes-Benz will enable access to the voice-based intelligent companion Siri[TM] in the vehicle. This allows natural speech input, without the need for specific commands, to send messages, select music tracks and check the weather forecast or stock prices, as well as to make appointments. All the iPhone(R) integration functions can be used even with the entry-level Audio 20 system.

This seamless integration of the Apple(R) iPhone(R) into the vehicle, in conjunction with the new revolutionary user interface design, means that Mercedes-Benz is now able to offer the Facebook generation its natural home on four wheels, in the form of the new A-Class. Along with Facebook, Twitter and so on, the "Digital DriveStyle App" developed by Daimler offers further services and content to suit the digital lifestyle and will be available to download free of charge from the Apple(R) iTunes(R) store. Its highlights include:

Personalised internet radio by AUPEO! Personal Radio, which offers radio stations that compile an individual program for listeners and recommend similar music by genre or artists based on personal taste.

The advanced navigation software from Garmin, with internet-based real-time traffic information, online POI searches and 3D map display, all of which work even in combination with the entry-level multimedia system Audio 20

A socially interactive experience involving "sharing", "posting" and the integration of music and other content from social networks including text-to-speech.

An intuitive 'Car Finder' which automatically stores the vehicle's location. Pedestrian navigation makes it completely easy to find your way back to the car.

Access to the voice-based intelligent companion Siri[TM].

New here is also the contextual and location-based display of menu content under the headings "Social", "Media" and "Places". The basic logic behind this was presented by Daimler for the first time in January of this year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Appearing under the heading "Social", for example, are the various friends and latest news from the social networks.

The user interface design is unique and revolutionary. Transparent symbols are illuminated in red to create three-dimensionally arranged navigation levels. Within the three-dimensional illustration provided by this menu structure, the user can move intuitively between the various functions in fluid, animated transitions. The user interface concept was designed and implemented by designers and engineers in the Mercedes-Benz research and development center in Palo Alto, California/USA. Enlarging the display of content on the screen to an appropriate format for use in a vehicle and allowing it to be controlled through the ergonomically positioned Controller on the center armrest makes operating the system both safe and easy.

The iPhone(R) is connected through an interface developed by Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH. This allows content to be fed directly from the graphics output of the device to the display of the vehicle. At the same time, the iPhone(R) is both powered and charged automatically while it is being used.

Full iPhone(R) integration is not only possible in conjunction with the COMAND Online multimedia system. All functions, including navigation, can also be used even with the entry-level Audio 20 system. Mercedes-Benz is thus making it possible for the A-Class's younger target group in particular to continue their digital lifestyle seamlessly inside the vehicle. Both the "Digital DriveStyle App" and the "Drive Kit Plus for the Apple(R) iPhone(R)" will be making their debut in the new A-Class, which will be celebrating its world premiere at this year's Geneva Motor Show, and are also planned to be available from autumn 2012 for the B-, C- and E-Class.

Always at your service: the voice-based intelligent companion Siri[TM]
As the first automotive manufacturer to do so, Mercedes-Benz will be introducing Siri[TM] in a vehicle with easy access to it from the "Digital DriveStyle App". While conventional voice recognition software demands the use of specific spoken commands, Siri[TM] understands natural speech patterns and will even ask questions in return should more information be needed in order to complete a given task.

Siri[TM] is a function of the latest iPhone(R) generation, 4S, and acts as a personal assistant. Given verbal instructions, for example, it will access the personal calendar to make or decline requests for appointments or meetings. SMS text messages can be dictated or read out, and emails sent. Siri[TM] can also be used as a convenient way of accessing the complete range of music stored on an iPhone(R) or to request the latest weather forecast.
Always up-to-date: COMAND Online with Cloud technology and

Mercedes-Benz App Shop
Safe and convenient access to the internet on the move is already available in a whole series of Mercedes-Benz models: the fully integrated multimedia system COMAND Online was introduced in 2011. As well as innovative applications such as Google Local Search including Google Street View and Panoramio, Mercedes-Benz is the only manufacturer to offer the option of sending individually preconfigured routes from Google Maps on a PC to the vehicle. The internet connection that is required for the functions in COMAND Online is established via a mobile telephone Bluetooth link and a secure Virtual Private Network (VPN). Mercedes-Benz is firmly convinced that the future lies with cloud computing. The software used in the COMAND Online applications is not stored in the vehicle, but runs off the Daimler Vehicle Backend. The advantage of this is that applications can be continually updated in the cloud, and new applications released to Mercedes-Benz customers, without the need to visit a workshop.

In this sense on March 31st, 2012 a new Mercedes-Benz App to access News will be available to COMAND Online customers. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz Apps for COMAND Online will be offered soon in the new Mercedes-Benz App Shop. The first two Mercedes-Benz Apps to become available in the App Shop will be the Parking Finder and Morningstar Finance, that offers access to stock prices.

It is planned to introduce a dozen or so new applications each year. To this end, Daimler has set up App Development Groups in both Palo Alto, California/USA, and Bangalore, India.

Optimization of a synthetic mixture composed of major Trichoderma reesei enzymes for the hydrolysis of steam-exploded wheat straw

Background:
An efficient hydrolysis of lignocellulosic substrates to soluble sugars for biofuel production necessitates the interplay and synergistic interaction of multiple enzymes. An optimized enzyme mixture is crucial for reduced cost of the enzymatic hydrolysis step in a bioethanol production process, and its composition will depend on the substrate and type of pretreatment used. In the present study, an experimental design was applied to determine the optimal composition of a Trichoderma reesei enzyme mixture, comprising the main cellulase and hemicellulase activities, for the hydrolysis of steam-exploded wheat straw.
Methods:
Six enzymes, CBH1 (Cel7a), CBH2 (Cel6a), EG1 (Cel7b), EG2 (Cel5a), as well as the xyloglucanase Cel74a and the xylanase XYN1 (Xyl11a) were purified from a T. reesei culture under lactose/xylose-induced conditions. Sugar release was followed in milliliter-scale hydrolysis assays for 48h and the influence of the mixture on initial conversion rates and final yields is assessed.
Results:
The developed model could show that both responses were strongly correlated. Model predictions suggest that optimal hydrolysis yields can be obtained over a wide range of CBH1 to CBH2 ratios, but necessitates a high proportion of EG1 (13-25 %) which cannot be replaced by EG2. Whereas 5 to 10 % of the latter enzyme and a xylanase content above 6 % are required for highest yields, these enzymes are predicted to be less important in the initial stage of hydrolysis.
Conclusion:
The developed model could reliably predict hydrolysis yields of enzyme mixtures in the studied domain and highlighted the importance of the respective enzyme components in both the initial and the final hydrolysis phase of steam-exploded wheat straw.

Vimeo 2.0 adds native iPad UI, Vimeo music store integration

Vimeo has updated its video-viewing app to version 2.0, providing new user interfaces for both the iPhone and the iPad. The iPad version is a now native app, and the iPhone version has been tweaked to be easier to use, which is always nice. The app also now lets you shoot and create projects, and browse Vimeo's content channels all without actually having to log in to the service, which is pretty nice.

The new version also includes full integration with the new Vimeo Music Store, which is a marketplace for musicians to upload music, which can then be purchased and used in user videos. This allows for Vimeo uploaders to have access to music they can commercially license in their content, and lets musicians make a little bit of money when having their music used. There are also quite a few free tracks available for use as well, so you can set up music to be used with your own videos, completely legally and without paying anything.

Pretty groovy. I've used Vimeo to upoad video in the past, and while it's not quite as easy (or ubiquitous) as a bigger site such as YouTube, it's definitely an excellent option, and this new update makes things even better. The Vimeo app is available for free on the App Store now.

How encounter design plays into game balance

Ready Check helps you prepare yourself and your raid for the bosses that simply require killing. Check back with Ready Check each week for the latest pointers on killing adds, not standing in fire, and hoping for loot that won't drop. Questions, comments, or something you would like to see? Game balance is a very frequent topic when it comes to WoW. With every nerf or buff, there comes a vast explanation from the player base as to why it was and was not justified. Perhaps one of the most common lamentations regarding a nerf that we see is when Blizzard "nerfs PvE for the sake of PvP." While Blizzard does make PvP damage adjustments from time to time, there are far more damage changes that are made due to PvE concerns than there ever has been for PvP. It's an easy fallback to take up; blaming the aspect of the game which you don't actively take part in, yet it would be far more accurate for PvP players to complain about PvE.

There's another trap that's easy to fall into: that PvE balance is easy to do. To be fair, balancing against Patchwerk encounters isn't that difficult, although you'll still never get it perfect, but WoW has only had a single Patchwerk encounter, and that was Patchwerk. For all the damage juggling that Blizzard does, the largest factor in game balance is always going to be the encounters themselves. Each fight has unique mechanics which mingles with the way specs operate and it is that which determines how a spec fairs just as much as any damage balancing on Blizzard's part.

In Pancreatic Cancer, Combined Inhibition Of VEGF And C-MET Can Decrease Metastasis

Dual inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor and c-MET signaling inhibited tumor invasion and metastasis in a laboratory model of pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer, according to a paper published in Cancer Discovery, the newest journal of the American Association for Cancer Research. "Inhibition of VEGF signaling plus c-MET signaling results in a synergistic effect on tumors that leads to slowing of tumor growth and decreased invasiveness and metastasis," said lead researcher Donald M. Infiniti Emerg-E concept gets unveiled before Geneva, is it the 'green' supercar you've been waiting for?
Despite parent company Nissan's penchant for forward-thinking electric mobility, its luxury division, Infiniti, hasn't gotten much love from us thus far, chiefly due to its reluctance to play in the EV and plug-in hybrid spaces that we cover. That friends, will change at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show with the unveiling of the absolutely gorgeous Emerg-E concept. We don't have much more info on offer other than a bevy of official shots, but with looks like that, how could we not keep a watchful eye out for its March debut? You'll find another snap of its interior after the break, and those with more time (and privacy) ought to peep the upcoming E-tron and i8 competitor over at Autoblog.

On The Chilly Side

We’ve had some unusual reports of ice pellets (sleet) coming in this weekend. Even though temperatures have not been close to freezing, we still picked up on some isolated pockets of sleet. The reason for this is rain is falling through a very dry layer of air. The very dry air causes the rain to freeze because of evaporation, and it doesn’t have time to melt before reaching the ground. A very interesting scenario and a rare one at that!

Daytona 500 Delay Keeps Danica Patrick in the Spotlight

The Daytona 500 was postponed until Monday for the first time in the history of the race, guaranteeing that Danica Patrick remains in the spotlight for at least one more day.

If it wasn't enough that Patrick has stolen the show so far this weekend with her highly anticipated debut on NASCAR's grandest stage and her wreck in the Nationwide Series race on Saturday, we now get another 24 hours of networks scrambling to fill the time before everyone reconvenes Monday at Daytona International Speedway for the noon start time.

With all the story lines already run leading up to the race, the focal point will be on the superstars to fill the void. We will get our fair share of Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch.

But, that also means we get an additional dosage of Danica Patrick.

Patrick is no stranger to the limelight, having carved out a commercially successful career in the male-dominated world of motorsports. But, will the imbalance between her results on the track and the attention she receives off it create even more of a wedge between her and her competitors?

Already garnering more interest than the other drivers, should Patrick go out of her way to become less of a story? Or, is that even possible given the circumstances?

This is a very unique situation in which NASCAR, too, must find that balance of capitalizing on the injection of such a celebrity while not jeopardizing the continuity of its 'good ol' boy' network.

It is quite possible that the shine begins to wear off after the checkered flag is waved tomorrow signaling the completion of the Daytona 500, but for one more day we must soak in all the glitz and glamour.

Whether we like it or not.

NHL Trade Deadline: San Jose Sharks Wise to Sit Back on Rick Nash Deal

As teams continue to scramble to try and land Columbus Blue Jackets' star right winger Rick Nash, the San Jose Sharks would be smart to back off on making a deal for the highly coveted player.

According to the Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garioch, the Sharks are still in on making a deal for Nash, but the price is very high—likely high enough to gut their team.

The Sharks are not exactly standing tall in the Western Conference, as they are currently sitting in seventh behind the Chicago Blackhawks with just 71 points on the season. They have quite a few teams trailing them, three of which are just sitting at three points or less.

If the Sharks made a deal for Nash, yes, they would get a stud to add to their offensive attack. But they would also be sacrificing their team going into the playoffs.

For now, the Sharks are best off to stick with their current squad, and just try to fight it out until they have an idea of where they stand after the season is over.

The team has a chance to stick around in the playoffs, and, if Nash ends up landing with an Eastern Conference squad, the team won't likely regret holding off.

If the Blue Jackets fail to even trade Nash by the deadline, the Sharks will have a shot at getting him during the offseason, as Garioch mentioned in his Tweet.

The team may be afraid to lose out on landing such a star player, but right now is not the time to risk a move such as this.

The Sharks still have a chance to make a lot of noise in their pursuit of a Stanley Cup, so there is no reason to throw a wrench into their plans right now.
