NFL Week 13 Picks: Spread, Straight and Over/Under

Thanksgiving week was riddled with excitement, statement games and plenty of favorites who won but couldn't quite cover. My Week 12 picks performed pretty well straight up, 12-4, but the inability of teams like Dallas, Cincinnati, New York and Pittsburgh to overcome the point spread took i's toll on my picks against the number leading to a finish of 8-8. Combine that with a poor 7-9 over/under record, and a week of good picks quickly turned mediocre overall.

With these results, my season totals stand at:

Straight: 121-55 (69 percent)

Spread: 103-73 (59 percent)

Over/Under: 91-85 (52 percent)

This dropped my overall mark just slightly to remain right around 60 percent on the year. In order to make it to the previously set goal of 65 percent, it is going to take some serious work from here on out. Another full slate of 16 games in Week 13 provides nothing but opportunity.

Let's get it on!

Philadelphia Eagles (-3) at Seattle Seahawks (O/U = 44)

Most would not have predicted that these teams would both boast a 4-7 record coming into this game before the season started. Lo and behold, the Eagles have done nothing but disappoint while the Seahawks have performed pretty much to expectations. While it is tempting to bank on another tank from Andy Reid's defective group, something tells me that the Eagles will come out looking to defend their leader after chants of "Fire Andy" echoed through Philly in their Week 12 loss to New England.

Straight: Philadelphia

Spread: Philadelphia

O/U: Over

Oakland Raiders (+3) at Miami Dolphins (O/U = 43)

Following a horrific start, the Dolphins have put together a string of respectable games, including a narrow loss to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. It is still hard to believe they are the favorite against a Raiders squad that have seized control of the AFC West since Carson Palmer came to town sporting a three-game win streak coming in. Miami will fall back to earth quickly here as the Raiders continue to roll.

Straight: Oakland

Spread: Oakland

O/U: Under

Indianapolis Colts (+20.5) at New England Patriots (O/U = 49.5)

No, that is not a mistake; that really says 20-and-a-half points. This is the largest spread in recent history, and rightfully so. The Colts have shown little desire to win before last week's game, and let's face it, they still lost to arguably the worst team in the NFC in the Panthers.

The Pats, on the other hand, have hit their stride, and have solidified themselves in the exclusive group of top tier offenses this season. It would take a small miracle for the Colts to keep this anywhere near close. Even a spread that wide isn't enough for Caldwell and Curtis.

Straight: New England

Spread: New England

O/U: Under

Tennessee Titans (+1.5) at Buffalo Bills (O/U = 43.5)

The Bills finally looked to regain some life in Week 12, only to lose a close one at the end to Mark Sanchez and the Jets. Tennessee also got a bit of a jump start in a breakout performance from RB Chris Johnson. CJ2K exploded for 190 yards in the rain, and if he could have only held on to the ball, they would have handled Tampa by more than the seven points they eventually won by.

At just two games behind a Houston squad who are grasping at straws at the quarterback position, the Titans likely feel a renewed urge to fight for the playoffs. The Bills chances took a big hit in that loss last week, and the momentum discrepancy will show here.

Straight: Tennessee

Spread: Tennessee

O/U: Over

Kansas City Chiefs (+7.5) at Chicago Bears (O/U = 36.5)

This game is somewhat ironic in the the fact that both clubs have lost their starting quarterback and are currently in recovery mode with fill-ins at the most crucial position on the field. Chicago, with Caleb Hanie, continue to fight for a Wild Card spot in the NFC playoffs, while the Chiefs are just fighting to stay above water.

It is unclear if KC will remain with Tyler Palko or throw newly-acquired Kyle Orton from Denver into the mix, but against a Bears defense that will be licking their chops at the unavoidable lack of experience, the Chiefs will continue to slide at Soldier Field.

Straight: Chicago

Spread: Chicago

O/U: Under

Denver Broncos (+1) at Minnesota Vikings (O/U = 37)

In what is becoming a sequence of somewhat unbelievable events, the historically polarizing Tim Tebow pulled out yet another win in Week 12, this time in OT against San Diego. Tebow continues to prove doubters wrong while putting up passing numbers similar to a rocket football backup.

All joking aside, winning games is what it all comes down to, and Tebow is showing that regardless of the level, he is able to will his team to do just that. Minnesota has pretty much nothing to play for at this point, and Tebow still, somehow, has everything to prove even though he has already shown he is worthy against much better opponents than the Vikes.

Tebowmania continues.

Straight: Denver

Spread: Denver

O/U: Under

New York Jets (-3) at Washington Redskins (O/U = 38)

Both of these teams showed some serious ups and downs in Week 12, but were also both able to pull out victories in games they looked destined to lose at many points. Mark Sanchez looked quite pitiful for a majority of the first half, yet somehow managed a career high four TD passes.

The Redskins looked equally ineffective until a late bomb by Rex Grossman gave them just enough momentum to get over the hump against Seattle. It has become increasingly difficult to read both of these groups at this point in the season, but the fact that the Jets still have something to play for should motivate their defense enough to put Sexy Rexy on the ground regularly in a win.

Straight: New York

Spread: New York

O/U: Under

Cincinnati Bengals (+6.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers (O/U = 42)

The first game between these two in Week 10 lived up to some lofty expectations and wasn't decided until a late interception thrown by Bengal QB Andy Dalton. Don't expect this one to disappoint, either.  The Bengals have wavered a bit since that loss, dropping another close one to Baltimore and barely pulling out a defensive victory against the lowly Browns.

The Steelers didn't look spectacular either, winning by just four against a poor Kansas City team on MNF following a byeA combination of strenuous scheduling for Cinci along with a walk in the clouds for Pittsburgh since that matchup will probably be enough for the Steelers to pull this out at home, but expect the feisty young Bengals to put up a fight nonetheless.

Straight: Pittsburgh

Spread: Cincinnati

O/U: Under

Carolina Panthers (+3.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (O/U = 48.5)

The Panthers were able to take home win No. 3 on the season in a Week 12 victory over the lowly Colts. The Bucs enter on a five-game losing streak and look to turn it around against the only team beneath them in the NFC South. It is arguable which of these two defenses has actually been worse this season, and viewers should be treated to an offensive showcase featuring rookie QB Cam Newton and punishing RB LeGarette Blount.

The Carolina offense has shown the ability to dominate below average defenses to this point, and this should continue against TB.

Straight: Carolina

Spread: Carolina

O/U: Over

Atlanta Falcons (-2.5) at Houston Texans (O/U = 39)

The Falcons have won five of their last six as they continue to push toward an NFC playoff spot, and with a fairly weak schedule to close out the year, they look to be in position to do so without much difficulty.

The Texans, having already lost QB Matt Schaub for the season, were stricken with even more bad luck, as replacement Matt Lienart was knocked out with an injury in his first game at the helm in Week 12. The Texans will now turn to rookie T.J. Yates to carry the torch as they look to hold on to a two-game lead in the AFC South.

This should be a close one, but the Falcons solidarity will help them eek it out.

Straight: Atlanta

Spread: Atlanta

O/U: Under

Baltimore Ravens (-6.5) at Cleveland Browns (O/U = 37.5)

The second AFC North matchup of the week features the first-place Ravens traveling to Cleveland to face off against the last place Browns. Baltimore handled business on Thanksgiving Day against the 49ers, and Ravens fans are likely apprehensive about this one in a year plagued by inconsistency.

Cleveland was able to keep it close against a talented Cinci team in Week 12, but back-to-back tough opponents will be too much for Colt McCoy to handle. Ravens dominate on the road in this one.

Straight: Baltimore

Spread: Baltimore

O/U: Under

Dallas Cowboys (-4.5) at Arizona Cardinals (O/U = 45.5)

As Dallas looks to maintain control of the AFC East, the Cardinals have surprisingly won three of their last four and are simply trying to close out the season with a little dignity. Rookie DB Patrick Peterson has proven well worth his high selection in the draft, evening himself with Devin Hester for the all-time single season punt return touchdown record at four.

If he is able to take another one to the house against Dallas, then it could provide enough of a spark at home for the Cards to steal the game, but the more likely scenario involves Dallas putting up a ton of points against an otherwise porous defense.

Straight: Dallas

Spread: Dallas

O/U: Under

St. Louis Rams (+13) at San Francisco 49ers (O/U = 38)

San Fran suffered just their second defeat of the season over the holiday against a formidable Ravens squad, a loss which in no way diminishes the stellar season they have put together. The 49er defense has yet to allow a single rushing touchdown through 11 games, a remarkable statistic which simply cannot be overstated.

The Rams have scored the least points of any team in the NFL. There isn't much else you need to know. Expect a single digit game for the lamest show on turf, but getting 13 points against an SF team which has struggled offensively at times may be just enough.

Straight: San Francisco

Spread: St. Louis

O/U: Under

Green Bay Packers (-7) at New York Giants (O/U = 53)

The Packers continue to roll while the Giants progress down an absurdly brutal stretch to finish out the year. While it has been said that coach Tom Coughlin is not in danger of losing his job, that tone may very well change if the Pack put a hurt on the G-Men at home.

Aaron Rodgers' offense is averaging nearly 35 points per game to this point, so taking the under is a bad call moving forward, even if the number is 50+. This one could turn into a shootout between the cheesehead signal caller and Eli Manning, so be sure to tune in if you like points.

Straight: Green Bay

Spread: Green Bay

O/U: Over

Detroit Lions (+9) at New Orleans Saints (O/U = 54.5)

Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh officially blew his top on Thanksgiving when he was caught stomping a Green Bay lineman en route to an ejection and eventual suspension. That suspension will cause Suh to miss this important matchup for Detroit and will create a noticeable void on their usually strong defensive front. The last thing you want to do is make things easier on Drew Brees, and it's likely the raging big man will only be kicking himself after this one.

Detroit's offense can put up points, and may be able to hang for a while, but eventually that Saint offensive machine will be too much to handle.

Straight: New Orleans

Spread: Detroit

O/U: Over

San Diego Chargers (-2.5) at Jacksonville Jaguars (O/U = 39)

Things have clearly reached a new low in San Diego when they are less than a field goal favorite against a three win Jacksonville team. If the Bolts can't pull this one out, then don't expect Norv Turner to make it to Tuesday night as the club's head coach. Having lost six games in a row coming in, it is remarkable that Turner has held that title even this long.

Fortunately for him and SD, Jacksonville is awful and actually did fire their head coach, Jack Del Rio, following Week 12. Even winning this game probably wont secure Norv's job at the end of the season, but at least it will be a stay of execution.

Straight: San Diego

Spread: San Diego

O/U: Over

Many playoff implications are scattered throughout these matchups, especially in the AFC, where there is still a whole lot up for grabs. Expect some teams to come out hungry as the season takes the turn down the home stretch, and others to look nonchalant as they have likely accepted their season's fruitless future.

Realm maintenance for Tuesday, Nov. 29

Update: Blizzard has changed the maintenance times and confirmed patch 4.3 for tomorrow.

Realm maintenance this week is an eight-hour stint beginning at 1:00 a.m. Pacific and ending at 9:00 a.m. Pacific for all U.S. realms. This maintenance includes the game as well as many of the web services; we may be looking at a little forum downtime with the game downtime tomorrow morning.

While there's been no official announcement, the eight-hour window may indicate that we're looking at the release for patch 4.3 tomorrow, which would set us up nicely for the new Darkmoon Island event the following week. If you've been patiently (or not so patiently, like me) waiting for void storage, transmogrification, new instances, new raids and more, you may not have much longer to wait.

Neekliam
We will be performing scheduled maintenance on Tuesday, November 29th. Maintenance will begin at 1:00 AM PST and conclude at approximately 9:00 AM PST. During this time, all realms and many web services will be unavailable.

Thank you for your patience.

Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with patch 4.3. Review the official patch notes, and then dig into what's ahead: new item storage options, cross-realm raiding, cosmetic armor skinning and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing -- from astride his back!

Anorexia: A Serious Threat That Can Affect Your Teenager

Often parents have dilemmas when it comes to handling their teenaged children, thinking that if they interfere too much, the children might rebel and protest. UFC 140: Machida Crane Kicks Jones in the Face

With UFC 140 less than two weeks away, anticipation is growing for the main-event matchup between current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon "Bones" Jones and former champion Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida.

Machida will enter the bout having won only one of his last three bouts, but that victory came against Randy Couture at UFC 129 in exciting fashion via crane kick. The victory broke a two-fight losing streak, which included losses against Quinton Jackson and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.

Jones comes into the fight having won three fights this year. His victories include those over Rua, Jackson and Ryan Bader. His first successful title defense came in September versus Jackson, who he submitted in the fourth round.

Much has been made about Machida's unique style of fighting, which is based on Shotokan karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. With the help of Steven Seagal, Machida has mastered the techniques used in his fights and what could lead him to defeating Jones.

UFC 140 will be available on pay-per-view and will feature a five-fight main card, including bouts between Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Tito Ortiz and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Mark Hominick and Chan Sung Jung. Brian Ebersole will also be featured in a welterweight matchup against Claude Patrick.

Sony 4K home cinema projector coming in January for 18,000

You were so happy with that 1080p projection spread across your garage wall. But then you got up to fetch a beer and noticed horrible fingernail-sized pixels all over Johnny Depp's mustache. The illusion promptly shattered and you realized it was time for an upgrade. An £18,000 ($28,000) upgrade, no less, which will render your Blu-rays bearable again by upscaling them to four times the resolution of Full HD and blasting them out at 2,000 lumens. We've seen the VPL-PW1000ES in action with 2D content from a PS3 and its 'Reality Creation' upscaling algorithm really does make a big difference, but if you absolutely insist on having native 4K video then you'll currently need to budget an extra $65,000 for a player. The oft-talked about, but still sparsely used tech gets top-billing here as the company refreshes its Liquid line for T-Mobile UK and Orange UK with the Express. It's a solidly mid-range Gingerbread affair, packing an 800MHz Qualcomm 7227 processor, Android 2.3 and 5 megapixel shooter into a 3.5-inch package. Okay, so it's not the best of what's around in wireless, but can you really argue with free (on a two-year contract)? We didn't think so. Follow on past the break for the official presser.

Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray: The Future of the Big Four

Roger Federer finished the year at a blistering pace: He outclassed most of the new blood at the ATP’s World Tour Finals, and is going back to Switzerland with the trophy and a new stand-alone record to boot.

In having surpassed his shared—with Ivan Lendl and Pete Sampras—plateau of five titles in the Year-End Championships, Federer now stands alone with six.

Yet, these same Finals in 2010, which Roger also won, did not spell Slam success for the Swiss this year.

Finishing on a more positive note however, Federer compiled a flawless 17-0 record since his heartbreaking loss to Djokovic in the U.S. Open, and in the process displayed some flashes of years bygone to his nostalgic fans.

Is this Paul Annacone’s final product?  The refurbished Roger Federer he promised?  Or is all this just false hope buoyed by an expected trend from one of the best indoor hard-court players?

The truth could be somewhere in between. On this sober note, let’s take a look at where Roger Federer and his main rivals stand a year from today.

2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG

Yes, it's a tired trope. But if there's a pair of well-off empty-nesters, the husband drives a Mercedes-Benz SL and the wife has an SLK. Stereotypes become stereotypes for a reason: As often as not, they're true.

But to dismiss this latest SLK as yet another Executive Assistant-spec coupe/cabrio is to miss three important letters on the boot: A, M and G. Yet again, the crew from Affalterbach have butched up the smallest offering in the Benz lineup, taking the proverbial velvet hammer to the "Chick Car" cliche. The rear wheels of the 2012 SLK55 AMG are driven by V8 power and its brakes and suspension bits have been beefed up for the occasional back road bonanza or high-speed highway assault. And unlike the BMW Z4 that's simply begging for the M treatment, Mercedes actually has die Hoden to build a testosterone-infused droptop. And we can't thank them enough.

Dev Watercooler: Faction favoritism

Fargo
Lead Quest Designer Dave "Fargo" Kosak has just posted the latest Dev Watercooler. This time, the topic is faction balance. In the wake of BlizzCon, this perennial topic has flared up pretty brightly. While the devs did indicate they wanted to give the Alliance a bit more good stuff during some panels, some other incidents during and after BlizzCon (including the news that Theramore, one of the most iconic Alliance cities, will be razed to the ground) has left some doubtful, leading to intense debates and 100+ page forum threads on the subject.

The way Kosak explains it, the devs definitely want to make sure that there is faction pride for both sides, and, he argues, while the Alliance may be getting beat up, the Horde has taken its share of lumps too. But in the long run, heroes are not born out of easy times. The Alliance will go through tough times, but it will give heroes the opportunity to arise. The Alliance's time is coming.

One thing he did admit to is that Blizzard needs to do a better job of making sure people can interact with their heroes. He acknowledges that the Alliance may not think of Thrall as theirs or part of their story, and he promises that once Cataclysm as over, we will catch up with other characters.

Whether you agree with all of his reasonings and conclusions or not, it's a good read, and it does prove that Blizzard is hearing us and is at least planning to try to address some of the complaints of faction parity and Thrall overload. Check after the break for the complete text of Kosak's post.

Shifting Perspectives: The matter of Mists talents and abilities

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Shifting Perspectives for cat , bear , restoration and balance druids. Balance news comes at you every Friday -- learn how to master the forces of nature, and know what it means to be a giant laser turkey! Send questions, comments, or requests for something you'd like to see to tyler@wowinsider.com or on Twitter @murmursofadruid.

Druids, friends, brothers and sisters, we need to have a right good talk. Earlier in the week, Blizzard released the ability list and talent calculator for every class and spec in the next expansion. As we all knew, there were many significant changes that were made in terms of what abilities each spec received and, in some cases, how these abilities worked. Oddly enough, this seemed to cause something of an uproar within the druid community over several choice changes. It's strange to me that a community preaching patience quickly froths at the mouth, but fret not, nothing is nearly as bad as it seems.

The changes are massive -- of that there is no doubt -- but at the core, everything that we've known is still there. The majority of the balance druid spec as it exists today is virtually intact; as far as changes could go, this is close to the best that we could have hoped for. There are still tweaks that should be made, but those shall come in time. For now, allow me assuage your fears.

Cruise line to offer an iPad in every stateroom

Cruise lines are always trying to outdo each other on the amenities that they offer to guests. For example, on a cruise I took in September, our large suite not only had a walk-in closet, but came with a laptop and a butler for our use. Of course, I didn't use the crappy HP laptop because I had my Apple devices with me, but it's the thought that counts. Now a major cruise line is equipping every stateroom on a ship with an iPad.

Royal Caribbean's 2,074-passenger Splendour of the Seas is currently in dry dock being refurbished, and one of the new additions to the ship will be an iPad for every stateroom. The idea is to give guests a new way to get information. The daily Cruise Compass newsletter will be accessible from the iPad, providing a list of events and activities, personal daily itineraries, and shore excursions. Guests can also watch movies or surf the Internet. Want to look at a restaurant menu or check your ever-growing bar tab? There's an iPad for that.

Guests will be able to take the iPads around the ship, accessing information from staterooms and any location with a good connection to the ship-wide Wi-Fi network. How Royal Caribbean plans on keeping the iPads from going home with the passengers is a question that needs to be answered. I'm guessing that each device will be outfitted with an RFID tag to keep it from going ashore with guests.

Splendour's sister ships in the Vision class -- Vision, Grandeur, Rhapsody, Enchantment, and Legend of the Seas -- are expected to take on iPads as regular travelers as they also go through renovations over the next two years.

Transplanted Cells Repair The Brain In Obese Mice

Without neurons reacting to the blood leptin level, the brain does not control the feeling of hunger and fullness. This type of genetic defects results in severe obesity in humans and animals. Scientists from Harvard University (HU), Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Nencki Institute) in Warsaw have demonstrated in their experiments on mice that it is possible to restore brain functions by transplantation of small numbers of new neurons into the damaged area of the brain...

Official: NHTSA releases Chevy Volt fire investigation details

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a statement on its investigation into a Chevrolet Volt fire that occurred at the organization's facilities. NHTSA had done a side-impact test on a Volt then parked it outside, and three weeks later Chevy's plug-in hybrid caught fire. The battery was determined to be the cause, after its coolant line was ruptured during the side-impact test. That led the NHTSA to consider a ruling forcing hybrid and electric-car batteries to be drained after a wreck.

On Friday, NHTSA said it is opening "a formal safety defect investigation" to study the risks of fire in Chevy Volts that have been in major accidents. To be clear, though, the larger story is that this isn't just about the Volt, this is about any vehicle with a battery pack, with NHTSA gathering "additional information about the potential for fire in electric vehicles involved in a crash...."

NHTSA conducted three more tests on the Volt's battery packs over three days, each test involving damaging the pack and rotating the car to simulate an accident and rollover. The battery pack in the third test began to smoke and spark almost immediately, the pack in the second test caught fire a week later. It is due to these results that the formal investigation has been opened. Follow the jump for NHTSA's complete statement.

Purification of chicken carbonic anhydrase isozyme-III (CA-III) and its measurement in White Leghorn chickens

The developmental profile of chicken carbonic anhydrase-III (CA-III) blood levels has not been previously determined or reported. We isolated CA-III from chicken muscle and investigated age-related changes in the levels of CA-III in blood.CA-III was purified from chicken muscle. The levels of CA-III in plasma and erythrocytes from 278 female chickens (aged 1-93 weeks) and 68 male chickens (aged 3-59 weeks) were determined by ELISA.The mean level of CA-III in female chicken erythrocytes (1 week old) was 4.6 mug/g of Hb, and the CA-III level did not change until 16 weeks of age. The level then increased until 63 weeks of age (11.8 mug/g of Hb), decreased to 4.7 mug/g of Hb at 73 weeks of age, and increased again until 93 weeks of age (8.6 mug/g of Hb). The mean level of CA-III in erythrocytes from male chickens (3 weeks old) was 2.4 mug/g of Hb, and this level remained steady until 59 weeks of age. The mean plasma level of CA-III in 1-week-old female chickens was 60 ng/mL, and this level was increased at 3 weeks of age (141 ng/mL) and then remained steady until 80 weeks of age (122 ng/mL). The mean plasma level of CA-III in 3-week-old male chickens was 58 ng/mL, and this level remained steady until 59 weeks of age.We observed both developmental changes and sex differences in CA-III concentrations in White Leghorn (WL) chicken erythrocytes and plasma. Simple linear regression analysis showed a significant association between the erythrocyte CA-III level and egg-laying rate in WL-chickens 16-63 weeks of age (p < 0.01).

Daily iPhone App: Superman

This one kind of came out of left field -- there isn't really any reason for Chillingo to release a Superman game, especially one created by Flash developer Tiger Games. Superman games in general don't usually work well anyway: How exactly do you put a challenge on pretending to be the Man of Steel himself? But this one works because it stays simple -- you control the big blue boy scout running around Metropolis, and perform various tasks, like stopping robbers, killing big robots, or smashing asteroids or missles as they threaten the city.

Most of the gameplay simply consists of flying around, and this is where Tiger Games gets it right -- Metropolis is a nice big 2D world to explore, and arrows on the screen will quickly directly you where Superman needs to go. There's a not-bad storyline propping the whole thing up, but let's be honest, this is superhero fantasy. You really just want to jump in as Superman and blast some robots with your eye lasers. The game's not bad at all, and for a Superman game, given the IP's history, that's enough.

The iPhone version is available for just 99 cents, or you can pick up an HD version for iPad for $2.99.

Daily iPad App: Perfect365 touches up faces in a snap

I'm really impressed when powerful applications or techniques migrate to iOS and seem to work as well (or better than) as they do on the desktop. A good example is Perfect365 HD.

This iPad app lets you take a photo of a person and modify it, 'improving' their facial structure, lips, eyes, nose, cheeks -- just about any part of the face that may need a nip here or a tuck there. Basically, the app gives any person a one click makeover. It's plastic surgery without the risk.

Portrait photographers and advertising agencies have been using these techniques for years, but usually the work is complicated and takes a long time. Perfect365 can do it in a click or two. Facial recognition features identify the parts of the face and with a couple of clicks your can turn your significant other into something a bit beyond their normal look. You can be subtle or extreme.

Images can be from your photo albums, or you can activate your camera and take the picture any time you want.

When you're done, the enhanced image can be saved back to your photo album, or sent to Facebook, Twitter or Flickr.

I tried the app on some pictures of people I had stashed on my hard drive, and I must say the results are pretty amazing and easy to accomplish. Some friends really liked the enhancements, some found it all a bit creepy. I found subtle changes were the best, cleaning up complexions or whitening teeth. The app provides a before and after view so you can see exactly what has changed. I have some examples in the gallery.

The app sells for US $4.99. I've used some Mac applications that are far more expensive but give similar results, although they offer more control and features. There's an iPhone version of the app that is now selling for $1.99.

If you're a casual photographer with friends that aren't happy with their 'look' I'll bet this app will please them and make you popular at the same time.

With the holidays here up you may be taking a lot of photos, and I think you'll be pleased with Perfect365.

The app requires iOS 3.2 or greater. Arcsoft, the company that created the app, also has a Mac OS X version coming with, you guessed it, more control and more features.

Check the gallery for some before and after photos.

2012 BMW 528i Driven: Small DI Turbo Four Makes 5er More Efficient, but Not Better

Future-tech?s holy trinity makes for a more efficient base 5-series, but not necessarily a better one. We?ve been skeptical of claims that direct injection and turbochargers could replace displacement while returning sky-high fuel economy since the beginning. Our observed mileage with many such engines has suggested that potential fuel savings are being overstated, but in [...]

Small hair-like fragments were found in certain lots of Original Flavor Craisins Dried cranberries, triggering a voluntary recall, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and Ocean Spray Cranberries Inc. have announced. The affected produce comes in 5-ounce, 10-ounce and 48-ounce packages. The company emphasized that the hair-like metal fragments are extremely unlikely to cause any harm or injury to consumers, it added that this current recall is a precautionary measure. Cricket unveils ZTE Chorus, its third Muve Music smartphone

We're not saying much, but a little bird told us about this travesty months and months ago. Now, it seems that Cricket is ready to act on its plans, and well, here's the ZTE Chorus. It's certainly a handsome device, but sadly, there's not a whole lot going on underneath the hood. It combines a 3.2-inch 400 x 240 (WQVGA) resistive touch display with a 600MHz CPU, a 2 megapixel camera and a 1000mAh battery. Seeking redemption, the Chorus is the third smartphone in Cricket's stable to offer Muve Music access, and its $40 price tag (after some hefty rebates) is nothing to sneeze at, but really, even without contract, don't saddle yourselves down with this one, folks. The Samsung Vitality is a much better device, costs only two Jacksons more, and is free of all that self-loathing buyer's remorse. Yes, we hear the chorus, but why not travel to the beat of a different drum? If you haven't been fully dissuaded, you'll find the complete PR after the break.

Chrome to gain plug and play gamepad support and WebRTC video chat in 2012

Seems like Big G updates its browser of choice with fresh features every time we turn around, and one of Google's own, dev advocate Paul Kinlan, revealed that another spate of upgrades are arriving for Chrome early next year. The headliner is plug-and-play support for gamepads, but native support for cameras, microphones and open-source video chat framework WebRTC are on the docket too -- features that give Chrome some considerable gaming chops when combined with its existing WebGL and HTML 5 prowess and, he says, could bring OnLive to the web without plugins. If you thought Angry Birds on a browser was a great, we can't wait to see what's in store when a proper controller and integrated video chat are involved.

Sony Tablet P available online, the P is short for pricey

Sony's second avant-garde tablet a la Android, the Tablet P, has finally made its high-fashioned self available online in the UK. The 3G-capable model has been slapped with a hefty £500 ($774) price tag, possibly explained in part by the pair of 5.5-inch touchscreens, which both tap into the same TruBlack technology used in Sony's Bravia TV range. The dual screen setup means that controls can be split to the lower half -- ideal for PlayStation-certified gaming or the occasional email barrage. If curiously curved clam shapes are doing it for you, offer up your pound sterling at the source link below.

WiFi Baby 3G baby monitor: Watching your baby from afar

Most parents want to keep a close eye on their baby, especially when he or she is sleeping in their room down the hall. Rather than check obsessively, which is what I did when I had my first baby, products like the WiFi Baby 3G let you easily watch your child from afar. Best of all, you can see and hear them without stumbling into their room and accidentally waking them up.

The WiFi Baby 3G is a small color and infrared camera housed in an attractive white or black shell. The camera comes with a mounting bracket that lets you attach it to a wall or a stand. The camera has a solid square body with an antenna that is enclosed in thick plastic. It definitely can sustain a fall without breaking. The front of the camera has a color camera, a cluster of IR sensors, a microphone, a power indicator and a light sensor that'll switch the camera from color view to infrared view. It's made by Y-cam and is a quality camera.

Unlike most baby monitors which send audio over the same 900MHz bandwidth used by cordless phones, the WiFi Baby works over your home WiFi network. To set it up wirelessly, you must first connect it to your router using a network cable and use the included software to setup the IP address, camera login credentials and other initial features. The setup is extremely easy, and there's an excellent customer support option that'll walk you through the process one step at a time. If you still have problems, a customer service rep can even connect to your computer using a screen sharing tool and set it up while you watch.

If you have a plug-n-play UPnP router, the WiFi Baby 3G will be configured for outside access, which lets you view the camera stream using your cell phone's 3G connection. If you don't have UPnP, you will have to configure port routing manually on your router. I tested the WiFi baby remotely, and the video streamed nicely. There was some lag, but it's not really noticeable until someone starts moving the monitor at home. One nice feature is the time and date stamp on the video. This is fed from the baby monitor and is included to let you know the monitor is still working.

The WiFi Baby 3G has lots of viewing options for parents that stay at home and for those on the go. There's a viewer for the Mac, the PC, iOS and Android devices. I tested both the iOS app and the Mac app; both worked extremely well. On first launch, both apps will scan the network for the camera and pull down the IP address. You will have to enter your username and password to connect to the camera and receive the audio and video stream. These settings are then saved for future use.

The iOS app works on the iPhone and the iPad and lets you watch video and listen to audio on your device. In normal view, the video stream appears in a box at the top of the screen, and the audio levels are below. You can tap the video feed or the audio to mute it and then tap it again to turn it back on. The app has lots of settings to change what you see. You can customize the audio to display either a 5, 10 or 20 minute history or set up alerts for when the baby starts to cry. You can also change the appearance of the app by selecting a pink, blue or night theme.

The Mac app is very different from the iOS app. It's from Y-Cam and is general surveillance app. It's not as pretty as the iOS version, but it has several features the iOS version lacks. Because it's a desktop app, the video window is much larger, and the audio is much louder. The video clarity is a bit grainy when you are viewing it at this larger resolution. It's still viewable, just not as nice as the iOS app. With one click, you can record a video stream or take a snapshot which is saved to the hard drive. The app even supports more than one camera feed. We tested it with only one WiFi Baby 3G, but you could use it with several more if you wanted.

The WiFi Baby produces a clear video stream and loud audio. It's great as a color camera and even better in night mode. The video at night is nice and bright, and lets you see your little one while he or she sleeps. If you position it correctly, you can even see your baby breathe. It's a real pleasure to use a camera that doesn't cut costs by making it pretty on the outside and then slapping in a low-quality lens and sensor. You can tell from the moment you turn it on; the WiFi Baby is built from the ground up to be an exceptional surveillance camera.

Speaking of the position, that's my only complaint about this monitoring solution. Unlike the rival iBaby monitor which moves, the WiFi baby is stationary. You can use the mount to get the right angle, but once it's set, the WiFi baby can't be changed remotely. You can't pan it left or right or scan up or down using your iPhone or computer.

This isn't a big deal if you are watching a baby that's sleeping, but it could be a problem if you are trying to follow a toddler playing in his room. The camera partially makes up for its fixed position with a lens that captures a wide part of the room. I set it up in the boy's room, and I was able to see about 75% of the space. It was only the extreme left and the extreme right that I could not see. If you don't mind this limitation, then the WiFi Baby is an excellent choice for a video-enabled baby monitor. The audio and video are excellent, and, best of all, it's easy to configure and use.

You can read about the WiFi Baby 3G and watch some demo videos on WiFi Baby's website. There's also an unboxing and setup video from WiFi baby embedded below. The wireless monitor costs US$279 and is available from WiFi Baby's online store.
