Atlanta Braves Trade Rumors: Braves Pounce on Pence as Beltran Leaves Market

The Carlos Beltran show has been cancelled. If you like, we have a brand new star on the rise, and his name is Hunter Pence.

The spotlight has transferred from one star outfielder to another. Pence is now the object of a few teams' affections. The limelight that Carlos Beltran filled has been vacated.

The San Francisco Giants traded for his services, shoring up one of their most glaring needs. Now you have to count the Giants among the few teams that are the favorites to win the World Series.

The Giants should be feared, and the teams trying to get over them as title favorites know that. ESPN reports interest has ramped up for the Astros' Hunter Pence immediately after the Giants signed Beltran.

There is a problem though. The Astros are in no need to trade Pence, and are currently asking for the world if they are to trade him. They wants the stars of tomorrow, and they want them with a guarantee.

The same report states the Phillies, "offered their best pitching prospect, Jarred Cosart, and their best hitting prospect, Jonathan Singleton, along with another pitching prospect."

The Astros still crossed their arms and said no. They want nothing short of a few "sure" thing players for an outfielder that is locked up until 2013.

It is very unlikely that Pence will be traded. The Astros have no interest in actually seeing their prized outfielder go.

They are basically calling off any trades by demanding they receive compensation better suited for Albert Pujols. The Braves will have to look elsewhere to find a right-handed bat to bolster their lineup.

You can rest easy, Houston fans. In a week, Pence will still be in Houston with the club he started with. There is simply not enough talent in the world to satiate the Astros right now.
