2011 NFL Draft: Could Da'Quan Bowers Really Drop to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Could Tampa Bay end up with a top-five prospect?

Knee surgery has trashed opinions of Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers. After leading the nation in sacks, Bowers tore the meniscus in his right knee and had surgery in December. He says that it's 100 percent, but his pro day didn't go well last week.

Teams used to see Bowers as a top-five pick, some even as the No. 1 overall pick. Now, Todd McShay of ESPN.com sees Bowers not just dropping out of the top five, or even the top ten, but all the way to 20th overall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The general theory for teams is to weight a player's game film at 80 percent of the draft stock and scouting combine and pro day performances at 20 percent. That doesn't seem to be the case here. The game film alone had Bowers near the top. When he missed the combine and disappointed at his pro day, Bowers dropped faster than a roller coaster on descent.

The Bucs could be the beneficiary. Bowers still has immense talent and upside. What made Bowers a future NFL star in most scouts' eyes before is still there, it just might take looking past his injury.
