That's a good question. Essentially, the powers of the black flight used to revolve around shaping the earth, raising mountains, creating valleys, that kind of thing. Over time, as Neltharion abandoned his charge as the Earth-Warder and became Deathwing, his powers changed, and so did those of his flight. They're all about fire and magma now: destructive forces of the earth instead of ones that create.
