The Swiss bus accident on 13 March 2012: lessons for pre-hospital care

Helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) are a limited and expensive resource and their possible effect on outcomes for trauma patients remain a subject of debate (2). In this incident it was a blessing to have such a well organized system in Switzerland, which proved that it can provide a number of 7 physician staffed helicopters on scene in less than 60 minutes at night.
