The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers have broken off trade talks that would have reportedly sent Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett to the West Coast after the two sides were unable to agree on proper compensation, according to Baxter Holmes of the Boston Globe:

While this likely ends the chances that Boston deals Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett to Los Angeles right now, the fact that both sides were already getting closer to a deal means the interest would still be there this offseason.

The problem for the Celtics now is that the team already tried to move Rivers and Garnett, so repairing that relationship may not be easy. Garnett signed a three-year extension in July of 2012, according to ESPN, but with trade talks boiling and his name at the center of this potential deal, the possibility that the future Hall of Famer could consider retirement grows with every failed proposal.
Boston must figure out what the future holds for Rivers and Garnett before the situation gets ugly.
