Luke Joeckel's Contract Reportedly Worth More Than No. 1 Pick Eric Fisher's Deal

The Jacksonville Jaguars have reportedly come to terms with No. 2 pick Luke Joeckel, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Despite the fact that Eric Fisher went No. 1 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs, No. 2 pick Luke Joeckel got the sweeter deal—at least in the overall financial picture. As Schefter points out in his tweet, the fact that there is no state tax in Florida will help make Joeckel's deal more lucrative.

This more detailed tweet from Schefter further illustrates the monetary excellence of Joeckel's deal.

No wonder the big man from Texas A&M is all smiles as he meets the press.

Per Joel Corry of the National Football Post, Fisher's deal will be worth $22,190,498 before state taxes in Missouri.

At the end of the day, neither man will miss a meal, but when the No. 2 pick is able to earn more than the top selection, it does somewhat dull the shine of being the first pick.

The comparisons between the two top-level talents will continue for as long as both are in the NFL. When two players who play the same position are drafted so close together, everything associated with them will be measured together—not least of all, salary.

Coming into the draft, many prognosticators had Joeckel rated ahead of the Central Michigan product. After the Senior Bowl and through predraft workouts, Fisher began to gain momentum.

Ultimately, his work ethic, athleticism and killer instinct endeared him to Andy Reid and the rest of the Chiefs brass.

Just when it seemed the kid from the small program had gotten the best of the stud from the SEC power, he's had some of his thunder stolen.

That said, he'll likely be happy if he and the Chiefs can grab a few more wins than Joeckel and the Jags.
