As usual, transfer rumors are flying around Manchester United as the club looks to build success from their 2012-13 Premier League title for years to come in the upcoming summer window.
While new manager David Moyes looks to begin the arduous task of replacing Sir Alex Ferguson, many names have come up as potential targets while some of the Red Devils' current players are plotting their exit.
Let's take a look at the latest buzz surrounding Manchester United.
Thiago Alcantara
Young Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara is being courted to come to Old Trafford, and the Red Devils currently lead the sweepstakes for the 22-year-old, Charles Perrin of the Daily Express reported late Tuesday:
The 22-year-old originally had a staggering £77m release clause inserted into his contract, but this has plummeted to £15.4m after he failed to feature in at least 60% of Barca's games last season.
Barcelona are looking to offload the budding star in order to make a push for Juan Mata of Chelsea, according to Jim Daly of the Daily Mirror. So in a way, United might be helping themselves and hurting a foe in the same move.
Alcantara has emerged as one of Spain's up-and-coming stars, but he's been unable to get first-team action as he's stuck behind Xavi and Andres Iniesta. And with the way those two are playing, he's not starting anytime soon.
It'll be interesting to see if United's curiosity on the Spanish midfielder formalizes into a deal.
Cesc Fabregas
Spanish phenom Cesc Fabregas was all over EPL transfer talk last week, but Simon Rice of The Independent reported Tuesday that Fabregas insists on staying with Barcelona.
Here's what Fabregas had to say:
People talk a lot but the truth is that no-one has spoken with me. I want to triumph in Barcelona, that club is my home and I always dreamed of playing there, so I will try and succeed there as long as I can.
The midfielder hasn't had an easy time finding his place at Barcelona, which has inevitably started up talk about an England return. But if Fabregas doesn't want to move, then that makes things much less likely.
If Fabregas' words are any indication, he doesn't seem set on a summer move to England.
Marco van Ginkel
The interest from Premier League powers is forming for Netherlands midfielder Marco van Ginkel, with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea tracking the 20-year-old according to Mark Ogden of the Daily Telegraph.
However, he currently plays for Europa League qualifiers Vitesse Arnhem, who are resistant on letting their prized youngster go.
Van Ginkel is currently on a post-tournament holiday and won't concentrate on the matter until he returns later this month, according to Ogden.
Another unfortunate development for United fans is that Vitesse have partnership agreements with Chelsea, which could complicate their competition with their EPL rival.
