Storm Damage Money Gap

CORDOVA, Alabama - Some storm victims are learning that insurance and or FEMA money won’t be enough to cover all expenses from devastating tornadoes.

Some homeowners are learning a painful lesson. Some are discovering FEMA money and or insurance money won’t be enough to cover the damage expenses from the storms. I talked with Richard Gilbert. His home was heavily damaged by the storm at the $8,451.83 check from FEMA won’t come close to covering his damage.

“I don't see how they think 8500 dollars is going to repair the damage that's been done,” says Gilbert. Churches like the Freewill Baptist church have been gathering donations of clothes and food for days. Those are a great help, but what storm victims really need is cash.

“We need funds to find temporary housing for these people because FEMA is not working for them,” says lawyer and disaster relief coordinator Andrea Pate. The church will help distribute those funds to homeowners that aren’t getting the help they need from other entities.

Donations to the Freewill Baptist Disaster Relief Fund can be dropped off at the First National Bank in Jasper, Alabama. Most of you reading this however probably can’t make that drive. You can also mail donations to
