Shayne Graham Released by Saints: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction

The New Orleans Saints announced the release of veteran kicker Shayne Graham on Tuesday. He spent all of the 2014 campaign with the organization after getting signed late in 2013.

Andrew Schuster of Who Dat Dish provided the corresponding roster move and updated the team's kicking depth chart:

Few players have made a journey around the NFL quite like Graham. He's made 17 stops with 14 different teams since breaking into the league in 2000. This was his second stint with the Saints, who originally signed him when he went undrafted.

Last season, the 37-year-old Virginia Tech product connected on 19 of 22 field-goal attempts (86.4 percent), which was slightly above his career average.

New Orleans asked him to attempt just seven kicks beyond 40 yards and only two from 50 or longer, however. The team may be looking for a kicker who gives it a little more faith when it comes to those long-range tries.

For now, it appears Dustin Hopkins and Zach Hocker will battle it out during training camp for the starting job. The Saints could always look back to the free-agent market if neither of them impresses.

Graham remains a reliable option at the position and will probably catch on somewhere, either during camp or at some point during the season when an injury arises.
