When a player suffers an injury too gruesome to watch twice, the last thing on anyone’s mind is how quickly he’ll get back to playing sports.
Kevin Ware’s broken leg in Louisville’s Elite Eight game against Duke immediately unified college basketball fans. His recovery has been as much a success story as his injury was a devastating setback.
Still, as Ware announced on Twitter, he’s back on his feet. By all accounts, his recovery is going as well as anyone could have hoped for:

So well, in fact, that Ware was seen shooting jump shots in Louisville’s practice gym, as reported by Eric Crawford of WDRB.com:
He still has a long way back, but this was a sign of progress for University of Louisville guard Kevin Ware -- he's able to wander out onto the U of L practice court and shoot jump shots again.
That's right. Jump shots. They weren't the high-flying variety he showed in his emergence as a major part of U of L's national championship team late in the season, but they were shots with a little bit of bounce.
As Crawford also noted, Ware’s trainer, Fred Hina, has been pushing the rehabbing guard to test the limits of his mending leg, which Ware admitted he hopes to do as he attempts to get back to basketball.
"I'm not going to do anything to jeopardize it," he said. "But I'm not going to take it easy, either."

According to the New York Daily News, the typical recovery time for a fracture like Ware’s can take five to six months for a person to even begin walking normally again.
I guess he didn’t get the memo.

Still, there’s no indication he’ll be physically or mentally ready to suit up when the 2013-14 college basketball season tips off. Even if Ware is back on the court casually shooting hoops at the practice facility, he will likely still have a long way to go before he is in playing shape.
But the fact that he is moving around and able to toss up some shots is a step in the right direction.
After an injury that could have easily pushed him to give up on his dream, he’s at least making some incredible progress, hopefully toward a return to the court.
