WWE News: Plans for a WWE Championship Rematch at This Year's SummerSlam

Following his victory over the Big Show in their steel cage match at No Way Out, John Cena is currently without a major storyline at this moment after spending the majority of 2012 feuding with the Rock, Brock Lesnar and John Laurinaitis.

With no plans for a match at Money in the Bank next month, here are the details from F4WOnline (via WrestlingInc.com) on the current plans for whom Cena will be facing in a match at SummerSlam this August.

The latest word on Cena's SummerSlam plans is that he will be going after WWE Champion CM Punk in the co-main event. WWE will reportedly be focusing on Cena-Punk and Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H as the SummerSlam main events this year.

Even though he's been the face of the company for the past several years, it would be good move for the WWE to have another superstar to challenge for the WWE Championship instead of a wildly established star like Cena.

Instead of John Cena, the WWE could give the frequently mentioned Dolph Ziggler a chance at another feud with CM Punk after their short feud last January and his impressive performance against Sheamus at No Way Out this month.

While he hasn't been seen since his injury in the later part of February, Wade Barrett would be an excellent superstar to go against Punk for the WWE Championship, following the rumors earlier this year of a potential feud between the two being in the works.

Even though there will be countless people rolling their eyes at the sight of Cena reentering the WWE Championship picture, the WWE will at least know they will be getting a good match from the two at SummerSlam following their epic feud last summer.

With Cena planned to take on CM Punk for the WWE Championship at this year’s SummerSlam, do you like the current direction the WWE is going with the title picture, or should another superstar be challenging for the title?
