John Calipari: Kentucky Forced to Take Back Celebration of Calipari's 500th Win

John Calipari Isn't at 500 Career Wins Quite Yet

On February 26, the University of Kentucky celebrated John Calipari's 500th career victory after a 76-68 win over the Florida Gators.

At some point in the near future, that same celebration will have to be done all over again.

According to a Thursday report from the Associated Press, the university will recognize the 42 victories that were vacated from Calipari's record from his time at the University of Massachusetts and the University of Memphis. After consulting with the NCAA, Kentucky admitted that its celebration of Calipari's milestone was "in error."

As far as the NCAA is concerned, Calipari's career record currently stands at 467-152. Of the 42 wins that were vacated, four are from UMass' tournament run in 1996, and 38 are from Memphis' 2007-2008 season.

The UMass wins were vacated because it was found that Marcus Camby had accepted money and gifts from an agent. Memphis' season was vacated after freshly-drafted star point guard Derrick Rose was ruled ineligible.

Until now, the university had been debating the issue with the NCAA because Calipari was never ruled to be at fault for the violations that occurred.

Of course, this is because Calipari has a way of making timely getaways when he feels the heat around the corner. When the NCAA was looking at UMass, he left for the New Jersey Nets. When the NCAA was looking at Memphis, he left for Kentucky, his "dream job."

Rest assured, if Calipari's Kentucky dream starts turning into a nightmare, he will wake up and flee. He'll take with him as many wins as the NCAA has allowed.
