2011 NBA Mock Draft: Minnesota Timberwolves Have No Reason to Abandon Beasley

2011 NBA Mock Draft: Minnesota Timberwolves Have No Reason to Abandon Beasley

Let's be honest, for those of us who are not Minnesota Timberwolves fans, these are the only two things we know about Minneosta's 2010-11 season:

1. Kevin Love was phenomenal.

2. Ricky Rubio is still mysterious and still resembles comedian Demitri Martin.

What a lot of us don't remember is the fact that Michael Beasley scored 19.2 ppg and adjusted perfectly well to the small forward position.

But Derrick Williams is sitting there at No. 2, why not take the new best thing?

Well here's the problem with that thought process, Beasley is still only 22-years-old. This isn't a case where they have a 34-year-old small forward in place and need to get younger at the position, they are fine with Beasley.

Safe Option: Enes Kanter. Obviously, if Kyrie Irving falls here, then go with Irving, but I highly doubt that will happen. Kanter would be a solid pick here to battle out starting center minutes with former No. 2 pick Darko Milicic.

High Risk/High Reward: Brandon Knight. The Timberwolves do need a point guard. He has a lot of upside, but the risk is there that Kemba Walker is the better option.

Intriguing Option: Pick Derrick Williams. They could use Williams as trade bait with Cleveland or any other team in the NBA. They could also decide to turn the small forward position over to Williams and shop Beasley around for a point guard or center.
