2011 Belmont Stakes Odds: Animal Kingdom Leads the Pack

2011 Belmont Stakes Odds Have Kentucky Derby Winner Animal Kingdom at 2-1

Ever since Animal Kingdom's win at the Kentucky Derby, the 3-year-old has been the favorite in the Triple Crown races.

Recent odds have Animal Kingdom as the 2-1 favorite in the upcoming Belmont Stakes slated for June 11.

On the heels of Animal Kingdom are Preakness Stakes champ Shackleford (5-1) and Kentucky Derby runner-up Nehro (9-2).

It's quite the turnaround for Animal Kingdom, who also placed second in the Preakness. Animal Kingdom was a 20-1 darkhorse when the Kentucky Derby kicked off this year, only to become the first horse since the Exterminator in 1918 to win the Derby with just four career races under his belt.

If you're looking for another Animal Kingdom in the Belmont Stakes, however, you might look at Mucho Macho Man, who despite placing third and sixth in the Derby and Preakness respectively, is a 15-1 darkhorse.

What's more, Mucho Macho Man placed sixth in the Preakness despite losing a shoe in the race, something that isn't gaining as much traction as it probably should.

Want another reason to think about betting on Mucho Macho Man?

He had the fastest five-furlongs time of 15 that have conducted workouts before the Belmont Stakes. Mucho Macho Man ran a cool 59.57 in the five furlongs, gaining praise from trainer Kathy Ritvo.

As for me, I'm still betting on Animal Kingdom, but I believe Nehro and Mucho Macho Man have the biggest chances of unseating the favorite at Belmont Park.
