Missing Man & Pregnant Woman Found

WILMER, Alabama - BREAKING NEWS The Mobile County Flotilla has located a man and an eight and a half month pregnant woman who went missing on the Escatawpa River.

Sunday 2:00 a.m.
The couple went canoeing on the Escatawpa river, leaving from Earlville Road in Semmes. The river is shallow because of the drought and almost dry in some places. The low river level slowed down the trip and even forced the couple to get out and walk in some spots.

It got dark before they could reach the Escatawpa Hollow Campgrounds. Stranded on a dry spot of the river, about 2 miles north of the Highway 98 bridge, the couple called 911 on their cell phone.

The Flotilla searched for the couple using 4-wheelers because of the low river levels. They fired flares into the air and asked if the couple could see them. Each time, the couple could see the flares getting closer, until a deputy spotted the couple from the shore line.

The pregnant woman was having cramps, so they called in a Coast Guard helicopter to air lift her to the hospital. The man was loaded onto a 4-wheeler and taken to the camp grounds.
