FC Barcelona is one of the greatest European Football teams in the world, and it competes against stars of European Football such as Manchester United.
The purpose of this article is to make a comparison based on various methods that include the playing techniques, philosophies, standard formations and systems of each team.
FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona is home to the Tiki Taka style of play implemented by Johan Cruyff when he was manager. It was later popularized by Pep Guardiola and his successor, Tito Vilanova.
Tiki Taka is defined as an evolution from Total Football and deals with playing in zones. It consists of ball possessions through short movements and passing.
The Football Daily’s YouTube program shows Tiki Taka training with the players practicing the rondo. The rondo is defined as a type of movement within the style of play.
The Tiki Taka was used with success by Spain during the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 and 2010 Euros. FC Barcelona has the 4-3-3 system, which helps the club’s offensive and attacking approach.
Johan Cruyff recently defended Barca’s system in an interview with Marca.com (h/t to Goal.com). The 4-3-3 system consists of one goal keeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards.
FC Barcelona is known as “More Than A Club,” since there is a sense of community among supporters. I have experienced it personally.
Manchester United
In the year 2007, The Guardian published an article concerning Manchester United. According to the article, Manchester United uses what they call "The Integration Project."
Manchester United's manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, oversees the team while the training sessions are done by an assistant manager and various coaches. The different aspects of a player and team are combined in order to have an effective strategy.
The standard formation for Manchester United in its matches is 4-4-2. The formation consists of four defenders, four midfielders and two forwards.
Manchester United received high ratings from Goal.com for its attitude towards supporters. The reason may be the attacking style used by the Red Devils, according to an article written by David McDonnell of The Mirror.
My personal opinion is that Manchester United (and other football clubs) gives their supporters a sense of family.
Conclusion
We can continue comparing La Blaugrana with Manchester United and/or other great European Football clubs. The reality is that Barca and Manchester United are great European football teams in their own right.
The same applies to clubs such as Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayern Munich. Each club has its unique history, brand, style, techniques and philosophy.
It is the uniqueness that makes the above-mentioned team great in their home country and the world.
