The Future Of Syphilis Diagnosis: Rapid, Point-Of-Care Tests

Syphilis is on the rise worldwide and there is an urgent need for reliable and rapid screening, particularly for people who live in areas where access to healthcare is limited. An international research team, led by scientists at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) in Montreal, has demonstrated that rapid and point-of-care tests (POC) for syphilis are as accurate as conventional laboratory tests...

Patch 5.2 PTR: Heroic 25-player raid testing announced

We're almost there! I'm not sure if this is the last batch of testing to occur but over the next few days, a flurry of 25-player heroic raid testing will be available for players on the PTR. The current build on the PTR has reached release candidate status which certainly means we're getting closer and closer to the patch 5.2 being deployed on to the live servers. Be sure to grab yourself a full suit of tier 15 gear before storming these heroic bosses though. Expect your gear to scale up to help you in your efforts.

Anytune, a music practise app with detailed functionality

On TUAW we've looked at many apps which let you slow down the tempo or change the pitch of a song to help you practice music more effectively. And that's exactly what Anytune does, but with a great degree of detail and some extra features to help even further.

Anytune is a free, universal app, but with In App Purchases (IAPs) to add extra features and functionality, turning Anytune into Anytune Pro+. The free version of Anytune lets you import music from your iOS library, adjust the pitch and tempo with great detail -- without affecting sound quality -- and select and mark certain parts of the song to loop for focused practicing.

IAPs (from US$1.99 - $12.99) include features like higher quality audio, importing music from Dropbox, email and Wi-Fi (although I don't know why you wouldn't just import songs from iTunes to your iDevice, but perhaps there are some niche users who will take advantage), and AirPlay support.

Some stand-out IAP features include "Step-It-Up" interval trainer, to challenge you in your practicing, "FineTouch" EQ lets you draw out particular dynamics of a song (guitar, vocal, bass), and exporting an adjusted song for practice at a later stage.

If you're looking for an app to help you practice your instrument to music, Anytune is is well designed and easy to use app. It's certainly worth checking out, especially since its core features are free.

Anytune is available from the iOS App Store now.

FC Barcelona: A Brief Comparison with Manchester United

FC Barcelona is one of the greatest European Football teams in the world, and it competes against stars of European Football such as Manchester United.

The purpose of this article is to make a comparison based on various methods that include the playing techniques, philosophies, standard formations and systems of each team.

FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona is home to the Tiki Taka style of play implemented by Johan Cruyff when he was manager. It was later popularized by Pep Guardiola and his successor, Tito Vilanova.

Tiki Taka is defined as an evolution from Total Football and deals with playing in zones. It consists of ball possessions through short movements and passing.

The Football Daily’s YouTube program shows Tiki Taka training with the players practicing the rondo. The rondo is defined as a type of movement within the style of play.

The Tiki Taka was used with success by Spain during the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 and 2010 Euros. FC Barcelona has the 4-3-3 system, which helps the club’s offensive and attacking approach.

Johan Cruyff recently defended Barca’s system in an interview with Marca.com (h/t to Goal.com). The 4-3-3 system consists of one goal keeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards.

FC Barcelona is known as “More Than A Club,” since there is a sense of community among supporters. I have experienced it personally.

Manchester United

In the year 2007, The Guardian published an article concerning Manchester United. According to the article, Manchester United uses what they call "The Integration Project."

Manchester United's manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, oversees the team while the training sessions are done by an assistant manager and various coaches. The different aspects of a player and team are combined in order to have an effective strategy.

The standard formation for Manchester United in its matches is 4-4-2. The formation consists of four defenders, four midfielders and two forwards.

Manchester United received high ratings from Goal.com for its attitude towards supporters. The reason may be the attacking style used by the Red Devils, according to an article written by David McDonnell of The Mirror.

My personal opinion is that Manchester United (and other football clubs) gives their supporters a sense of family.

Conclusion

We can continue comparing La Blaugrana with Manchester United and/or other great European Football clubs. The reality is that Barca and Manchester United are great European football teams in their own right.

The same applies to clubs such as Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayern Munich. Each club has its unique history, brand, style, techniques and philosophy.

It is the uniqueness that makes the above-mentioned team great in their home country and the world.

The Ford EcoSport is Just Like a Fiesta, Only Tougher [2013 Geneva Auto Show]

Maneuvering through city traffic may seem like navigating a jungle, or at least it seems that way to car designers and marketing experts. Isn’t it fitting, then, to have harmless subcompacts resemble miniaturized off-roaders? Ford has decided it is, and the brand has now launched its Fiesta-based EcoSport in Europe. Powered by either a 123-hp, [...]

Report: Gilles defends 2014 Jeep Cherokee design as "very contemporary"

2014 Jeep Cherokee - on the road, front three-quarter view

Following the forced-hand introduction of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, there has definitely been a mix of responses revolving around everything from its design to the return of the legendary nameplate. As evidence of this, just check out the 1,000+ comments in our article last week and some of the many opinions that were voiced. Following this not-too-warm reception, Ward's Auto had a chance to talk to Chrysler designer chief - and SRT president - Ralph Gilles, who shed a little more light on the styling direction of the new Cherokee.

Rather than looking to previous models for inspiration, Gilles says that the Cherokee has been designed to be more contemporary, with Mark Allen, head of Jeep design, adding that a main goal was to make sure the design still looks modern five years from now. Interestingly, Gilles does point out that one of the design elements incorporated on the new Cherokee that pays homage to past Jeeps is the sharply downward angle for the leading edge of the beltline, which he notes is meant to mimic the look of the old YJ and TJ Wrangler models fitted with half doors. Of course, the squared-off wheel openings - a signature Jeep cue - are still used.

This is probably a design that will need to be seen on the street in actual daylight to properly assess, but in the meantime, we'll bring you full images and impressions when the Cherokee debuts at next month's New York Auto Show.
