The Miami Hurricanes travel to Pittsburgh Wednesday night, taking on a Panthers team fresh off of a tough Sunday night loss at Wake Forest. Both the Hurricanes (18-11) and Panthers (19-11) are fighting for a berth in this month's NCAA tournament, though both teams face an uphill battle with the selection committee. The teams are tied for eighth place in the always-tough Atlantic Coast Conference and will need impressive performances in the ACC tournament to advance.
The 'Canes, led by junior guard Sheldon McClellan and junior center Tonye Jekiri, have a handful of close losses to quality opponents. They lost by five points at Notre Dame, by two points at Louisville and by nine in a double-overtime home game against Virginia (all of whom are Top 25 teams). The Panthers, on the other hand, have impressive wins at home against Notre Dame and Louisville—though they have also lost by double digits to Duke, Virginia Tech and San Diego State.
