WWE Style Comic-Con in the Works: Fans Can Truly Die Happy

I just read on wrestlinginc.com that World Wrestling Entertainment is planning their own version of the San Diego Comic-Con International event. The idea is to have the convention take place over a period of four days in the same city as a major pay-per-view, probably WrestleMania or Summer Slam, if I were to take a guess.

This would certainly be a logical step in connecting with fans of all ages who can’t get enough of WWE, the latest in pop culture and social media. A WWE themed Comic-Con would certainly expand their burgeoning universe.

If anyone can host their own version of Comic-Con, it’s WWE. Comic-Con in itself is an intense entertainment experience. Whether it’s San Diego, New York or Chicago, Comic-Con is nothing less than spectacular. It is a pop culture mecca.

WWE prides itself on redefining the term spectacular. There's no doubt in my mind that this is the start of another tradition, like WrestleMania, that will allow WWE to continue their dominance within the global market.

I've been to a number of New York Comic-Cons over the last few years and, from what I've seen, the WWE has always maintained a high profile, with many WWE superstars making personal appearances as well as Mattel having a huge WWE display of action figures that fans can buy in the future. They're the perfect fit for what Comic-Con offers. The relationship has always been beneficial.

Imagine the possibilities of a WWE style Comic-Con. You get to meet your favorite superstars. You get to meet legends like Bruno Sammartino and Bob Backlund. Imagine meeting Mr. McMahon himself!

Maybe they can do a live version of WWE Legends. You can see up and coming talent from NXT compete in live matches. Fans can preview future WWE video games and action figures. You can have a hall of champions that showcases former WWE Champions.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. I haven't even talked about the idea of other major entertainment companies, those that focus on film and television, joining forces with WWE to promote their projects.

The idea of WWE hosting their own Comic-Con is a brilliant one, however, I'm up in the air about whether or not it should be held leading up to a major pay-per-view. Major pay-per-views don't come cheap. You're talking about spending a small fortune if this all happens at the same time. Don't get me wrong, WWE will make money regardless. I just think that they should take the fans into consideration and make it a worthwhile experience from a financial standpoint.

This is just me, a hopeful wrestling/comicbook fan, keeping my fingers crossed about something that hasn't even happened yet. I hope this does get past the planning stage. It would be another great way to ensure WWE's legacy.

What are your thoughts?
