Former Roxbury Pharmacist Pleads Guilty In Connection With Stealing Over $550,000 From Masshealth
A former Roxbury pharmacist has pled guilty to defrauding the Massachusetts Medicaid Program (MassHealth) of over $555,000 by fraudulently billing for medications that were never prescribed by a doctor or dispensed from his Egleston Square Pharmacy, Attorney General Martha Coakley's Office announced today. Rumor: Apple's cloud service comes with subscription fee
CNET has heard from "music industry insiders" that Apple's long-rumored cloud service is indeed coming, but with a subscription fee. When it first launches, the service, which supposedly will act as a "music locker," allowing you to store and access a music collection in the cloud, may be available free of charge. But the plan is to eventually charge for it, and most estimations (also known as guesses) are falling in the $20 per year range.
We'll have to see how this all plays out -- Google is also reportedly working on a service like this, but of course, the details are still up in the air. And it remains to be seen what deal Apple is working out with the record companies as well. Will only your iTunes-purchased music be able to stay in the cloud, or will we be able to upload any music that we have installed in iTunes? Or will, as Billboard suggests, Apple try running a Netflix-style music service, where a standard fee gets you access to a certain library of music?
Either way, it'll be good to see whatever Apple's been working on finally revealed, hopefully later on this year.

What is a rare disease? There have been over 7,000 rare disorders defined and there is now a stated goal to achieve treatment for about 200 of them by the year 2020. I personally did an independent survey over the weekend asking what people thought was the largest global health epidemic in their opinion. I thought HIV/AIDS would be the number one response, but surprisingly, obesity was a big answer to my inquiry. Cancer was considered simply unbeatable so disqualified, and malaria is so far away from the United States many were unaware of its effects on the global population...

Emergent Role of Gasotransmitters in Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury
Nitric oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) are lipid-soluble, endogenously produced gaseous messenger molecules collectively known as gasotransmitters. Over the last several decades, gasotransmitters have emerged as potent cytoprotective mediators in various models of tissue and cellular injury. Specifically, when used at physiological levels, the exogenous and endogenous manipulation of these three gases has been shown to modulate ischemia/reperfusion injury by inducing a number of cytoprotective mechanisms including: induction of vasodilatation, inhibition of apoptosis, modulation of mitochondrial respiration, induction of antioxidants, and inhibition of inflammation. However, while the actions are similar, there are some differences in the mechanisms by which these gasotransmitters induce these effects and the regulatory actions of the enzyme systems can vary depending upon the gas being investigated. Furthermore, there does appear to be some crosstalk between the gases, which can provide synergistic effects and additional regulatory effects. This review article will discuss several models and mechanisms of gas-mediated cytoprotection, as well as provide a brief discussion on the complex interactions between the gasotransmitter systems.
