WoW Moviewatch: Behind the Raid episode 1

This video is kind of crazy. The guild Progression Pug on Misha (US-H) contains a separate raid team called Brew Ha Ha. That raid team got together and created this subtle, tongue-in-cheek video. Behind the Raid shows off the hijinks and shenanigans that happens during a raid.

Deathfarg and Gulabull produced this video, and I tip my hat to the inventive leaders. Doing something like this goes a long way toward promoting team unity, and the whole production looks like an immense amount of fun. I'd maybe step up the sound quality for further episodes, if possible, but I thought the joke and dialogue was awesome.

The Queue: Braggosh Day

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo) will be your host today.

It's apparently Braggosh Day here at WoW Insider, where I just keep getting articles scheduled and keep including pictures of my orc warrior Braggosh as the title image.

Enjoy.

Twowolves asked:

1. Do beta mobs drop loot? I'm curious about the Cata to MoP stat jump. Although I hate having to wait until 80 to leave Northrend, the Cata gear that becomes available at 77 provide a crazy power and survivability boost.

2. Do we indeed have to wait until 85 to enter Pandaria?

3. Aside from monk, what other class do you think will be a big hit with the panda crowd?

Add-on turns a smartphone camera into a joystick (video)

Image
One of the more irritating aspects of touchscreen gaming is almost certainly the inevitability of blocking the screen as you play -- particularly with smaller devices like smartphones. A new peripheral being developed by Keio University takes an interesting approach to the problem -- using the device to transform the gadget's camera into a three-axis joystick of sorts by detecting the movement of markings on the add-on. According to its creators, the accuracy of the joystick depends largely on the precision of the phone's hardware. Check it out in action after the break.

On building Flipboard

There are designers and then there's the rest of the world. As much as I appreciate esthetics, I can't conceptualize design because I'm convinced designers see things through a different frame of reference. Those like me who aren't designers are thankful when people like Craig Mod take the time to explain their creative process and insights.

Mod, who worked on Flipboard for the iPhone, has crafted a lengthy essay about the design of the app. His discussion doesn't focus on the bits and bytes but the existential journey that led to the finished product. It will take you a while to digest all that Mod has to say, but it's well worth your time.

Organ Transplant Fluid May Be Contaminated, UK

The Department of Health in England says that Viaspan, a manufactured fluid used to preserve some donor organs when they are moved, could have been contaminated with the bacterium, Bacillus cereus since last July. Viaspan is a sterile, cold solution that is widely used for storing and transporting abdominal organs such as the liver, pancreas and bowel. Bristol Myers-Squibb, the manufacturer of Viaspan, have issued a worldwide recall of their product because they found "potential contamination on the product line" at their Austrian factory, reports The Telegraph...

OS X malware used to spy on pro-Tibetan charities, reminds us all to keep updated

Image
Pro-Tibetan organizations that use Macs have discovered that their data has been accessed thanks to malware-based siphoning more commonly associated with Windows machines. Security expert Jamie Blasco revealed that two separate backdoor trojans can breach OS X if infected Word documents (yes, we know) or emails are opened. However, those who regularly keep up with security updates shouldn't be too concerned: both holes were patched before the end of last year, although that's scant relief for those whose privacy has already been infringed.

[Thanks, Charles]
