Emmanuel Acho Accepts High School Prom Invite After Fan's Social Media Challenge
Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho told Hannah Delmonte if she could get 10,000 retweets, he would be her date for prom. As it turned out, the Twitter test wasn't nearly as difficult as expected, as the fan easily surpassed that total.
Daniel Williams of NFL.com notes the current tally, which continues to rise as the story goes viral, is over 17,000 to handily conquer the challenge. Here's the original message Delmonte sent out back in January featuring a snippet of her exchange with the NFL player:
This type of story has become rather common in the age of social media. It's presented an opportunity for fans and players to connect in a way that wasn't previously possible. The interactions aren't always positive, of course, so it's nice to see a story like this.
Credit to Acho for living up to his end of the bargain, as well. It would have been easy to back out when it became clear Delmonte was going to surpass the 10,000 mark. Ray Boyd of CBS Philadelphia passed along comments from the linebacker made on the Sports Beyond Measure podcast about it.
"All it took was for me to go to dinner, get up from dinner, three hours go by and she's at 9,983. At that point in time, I knew I would be going to prom," Acho said.
He even posted a video of his arrival at Woodgrove High School to meet his prom date in person:
Quite a moment. Certainly one Delmonte will never forget. CSN Philly notes he's not only planning to show back up in Virginia for the prom, but the 24-year-old defender is also expecting to get on the piano and sing a song for his date.
Acho started his career with the Cleveland Browns before spending the last two years with the Eagles. But, as NBC Washington points out, May 9 is not circled on his calendar for any football reasons. It's prom night.

MetCap: a bioinformatics probe design pipeline for large-scale targeted metagenomics
Massive sequencing of genes from different environments has evolved metagenomics as central to enhancing the understanding of the wide diversity of micro-organisms and their roles in driving ecological processes. Reduced cost and high throughput sequencing has made large-scale projects achievable to a wider group of researchers, though complete metagenome sequencing is still a daunting task in terms of sequencing as well as the downstream bioinformatics analyses. Alternative approaches such as targeted amplicon sequencing requires custom PCR primer generation, and is not scalable to thousands of genes or gene families.
Results:
In this study, we are presenting a web-based tool called MetCap that circumvents the limitations of amplicon sequencing of multiple genes by designing probes that are suitable for large-scale targeted metagenomics sequencing studies. MetCap provides a novel approach to target thousands of genes and genomic regions that could be used in targeted metagenomics studies. Automatic analysis of user-defined sequences is performed, and probes specifically designed for metagenome studies are generated. To illustrate the advantage of a targeted metagenome approach, we have generated more than 300,000 probes that match more than 400,000 publicly available sequences related to carbon degradation, and used these probes for target sequencing in a soil metagenome study. The results show high enrichment of target genes and a successful capturing of the majority of gene families. MetCap is freely available to users from: http://soilecology.biol.lu.se/metcap/.
Conclusion:
MetCap is facilitating probe-based target enrichment as an easy and efficient alternative tool compared to complex primer-based enrichment for large-scale investigations of metagenomes. Our results have shown efficient large-scale target enrichment through MetCap-designed probes for a soil metagenome. The web service is suitable for any targeted metagenomics project that aims to study several genes simultaneously. The novel bioinformatics approach taken by the web service will enable researchers in microbial ecology to tap into the vast diversity of microbial communities using targeted metagenomics as a cost-effective alternative to whole metagenome sequencing.

5 Most Meaningful Spring Training Position Battles
Here we are, right back where we started.
As March approaches and actual games are on the horizon, the time to break down position battles is upon us, as it always is at this time on the calendar. As far as Cactus and Grapefruit League games go, they might not count toward October, but for players involved in these toss-ups, they are ever meaningful.
But instead of breaking down all the position battles, or the ones for each team, let’s make this more relevant. Which fights matter? Which ones carry the most weight for their team’s eventual success? Where are the battles with the most at stake?
That typically means the battles that are happening within teams with lofty expectations. While every team has some kind of position uncertainty hovering over their spring camp, these are the five most important.

Breakfast Topic: Do you take a lot of screenshots?
In vanilla, I just liked taking pictures of things -- pretty things, weird things, strange armor I'd purchased and immediately regretted. In Burning Crusade, it was because Outland was so new, and different, and unlike anything on Azeroth. Somewhere in Wrath, after getting my job here, it grew from a hobby into something I did for cataloging purposes. If I needed a screenshot of a particular quest or a particular NPC saying a particular line, then I was going to make sure I had it handy before I even knew I needed it. Betas are great for testing, but they're also great for getting tons of advance screenshots that I will more than likely use later. And beyond that ... well, it's kind of interesting to have a record of all the places I've gone and all the people I've met over the years. It's like flipping through a scrapbook. A really, really nerdy scrapbook.
Do you guys take a lot of screenshots? Do you save the alt-z for important stuff like boss kills and achievements, or do you snap away whenever you see a pretty piece of scenery? Do you save your screenshots from expansion to expansion, or just get rid of them as time goes on? What's the earliest screenshot you've still got?

Honda Classic 2015: Leaderboard Highlights and Reaction from Thursday
The Honda Classic in Palm Beach Garden, Florida, isn't just notable for its $1,098,000 winning share or the 500 FedEx Cup points on the line. No, it's also notable because it's the first tournament of the year for No. 1 player Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy's place atop the golfing world continues to be incredibly important with Tiger Woods on another hiatus. Below, you'll find all of the latest leaderboard updates and analysis as McIlroy and the field attempt to take home the Honda Classic title.
Leaderboard
Round 1 Recap
The world's top golfer, Rory McIlroy, would probably like a mulligan after his first round at the Honda Classic. A second alternate who wasn't even sure if he would be golfing in the field, Jim Herman, is sitting pretty after Thursday.
It's a crazy world we live in, folks.
While McIlroy limped out to a three-over 73, Herman finished the day atop the leaderboard with his five-under 65 with Brendan Steele (66), Padraig Harrington (67), Martin Flores (67) and Patrick Reed (67) all nipping at his heels.
“I don’t ever recall leading," Herman said after his round, per Will Gray of GolfChannel.com.
There's a first for everything, it would seem.
But the story of the day was McIlroy, of course, who like many other players struggled with the windy conditions on Thursday. He could have been in much worse straits had he not finished with birdies on his last two holes, however, including this beautiful putt on No. 17:
McIlroy, who won this tournament in 2012, bogeyed three holes and surprisingly double-bogeyed at Nos. 1 and 5. That's not something you see often from the superstar, as Jason Sobel of the Golf Channel noted, while also getting McIlroy's feedback on his rough round:
McIlroy is going to face a battle on Friday, as he attempts to survive the cut, but he wasn't the only big name to struggle.
Justin Rose (73), Sergio Garcia (72) and Phil Mickelson (71), among others, struggled on Thursday.
While the whipping winds and strong gusts gave plenty of players problems, there were still a slew of amazing shots and surprising performances on the day. Reed had this lovely chip at No. 4, for instance:
Robert Allenby had a pretty amazing chip at No. 7 himself:
And then there was Luke Donald sinking this long birdie putt at the 16th:
For all of the winds, there were still plenty of highlights.
McIlroy will hope to provide a few more of them on Friday. If he doesn't, he's in danger of missing the cut, a result hardly befitting of the world's best player.
Herman, on the other hand, will have a battle on his hands to hold the lead, especially with a star like Reed close behind. Heading into the weekend, the Honda Open certainly isn't lacking for surprises, intrigue and storylines to follow.

NFL Combine 2015: Most Impressive Showings and Full Results for Top Performers
While the NFL combine is only supposed to confirm what scouts already know, there were still players who turned heads this week in Indianapolis.
The "Underwear Olympics" is often the most intriguing of the pre-draft events, giving the prospects a chance to show off their true athleticism in a variety of events. Although these don't necessarily translate directly to success in the NFL, teams always seem to fall in love with speed, strength and explosiveness.
When the NFL draft rolls around, some of the names that stood out this week are likely going to be a little higher on boards.
Here are the top performers in each event at the scouting combine and a look at the players who helped themselves the most.
Full combine results at NFL.com.
Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson
Although he played defensive end in college, Vic Beasley was aware he was likely going to have to move to outside linebacker at the next level. According to Ron Clements of Greenville Online, the former Clemson star recently discussed his need to show off his other skills:
I played linebacker in high school and some in college, so it's nothing new to me. Teams really want to see me drop in coverage. They haven't seen me with my hand off the ground that much. They want me to play the 3-4 outside linebacker position at the next level, so they want to see me drop.
After the combine, it's clear he has the athleticism to drop back in coverage or do just about anything on the football field.
Beasley showed off an incredible combination of strength and speed that has rarely been seen at this event, via ESPN Stats and Info:
His 35 reps on the bench press were the third-most at any position in the class; however, his true feat was comparing him to others at the position. He finished first among linebackers in the 40-yard dash and bench press while landing in the top five in vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill and the 20-yard shuttle run.
It was clear Beasley would be a contender for a first-round pick in April, but it seems like he has solidified this standing.
Chris Conley, WR, Georgia
Although he never put up big numbers at Georgia, Chris Conley showed the value of the combine with his performance, as Peter Bukowski of Sports Illustrated noted:
His 40-yard dash turned heads as a 6'2" receiver who ran a 4.35, the third-fastest time at any position. That combination of size and speed was already enough to make him an intriguing player in this class.
Seth Emerson of The Macon Telegraph noted how this will help him:
However, the receiver was just getting started. He showed off his leaping ability later in the day with a vertical jump of 45 inches, which was the best mark since 2006. When he completed his broad jump of 11'7", it was also the longest in that stretch.
Just for good measure, he showed he wasn't exactly fragile by posting 18 reps on the bench press, which ranked fourth among receivers in the class.
There will be a lot more film study on Conley after this week to see if he can truly make it as an NFL receiver. Regardless, it's clear the young player has the tools necessary to succeed at the next level.
Byron Jones, CB, Connecticut
Saying Byron Jones is explosive isn't quite the same as seeing it for yourself, courtesy of Will Brinson of CBS Sports:
Not only was his broad jump of 12'3" the longest ever at the combine, but it might have been the best the world has ever seen. According to Bryan Fischer of NFL.com, the world record at the former Olympic event of standing long jump was 12'2".
Add in his impressive vertical jump that finished second only to Conley, and it's clear Jones has some athleticism. On a 6'1" frame at cornerback, this will certainly get a lot of teams to take notice.
On the other hand, Jones wasn't even able to show off his speed at the combine after choosing not to participate in the 40-yard dash, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com:
The good news is he made up for it by showing off his quickness and change of direction in the shuttle runs. In case his jumps weren't good enough, he finished with the fastest time of any player in the 60-yard shuttle at 10.98 seconds.
Jones simply put on a show in Indianapolis and left with as much buzz as anyone in the class.
