Tesla Model S now the least-stolen car in the US
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Green Culture, Tesla Motors
When is a Honda Accord more appealing than a Tesla Model S? When you're a thief. The Accord continues to reign as the most-stolen car in the US but the Model S is now claiming a new and interesting title: the least-stolen car in America. Last year, it wasn't even on the list. Of course, sometimes a Model S is stolen and the most famous case ended with tragic results.
For the record, last year there was an eight-way tie for "least-stolen," made up mostly of SUVs and CUVs. The rankings were listed by a value called "claim frequency," which is how many were reported stolen per 1,000 units produced and where lower means it is stolen less. With a 0.4, these were the vehicles least wanted by thieves in 2013: Dodge Journey, Volkswagen Tiguan, Audi A4, Acura RDX, Toyota Matrix, Lexus HS 250 hybrid, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson. This year, the Tesla clocked in with a 0.15. The average vehicle has a claim frequency of 3.51.Last year there was an eight-way tie for "least-stolen."
Tesla has, of course, worked hard to make the Model S an unlikely target. It can be shut down remotely, it can be tracked and it has a hacker princess and cash prizes working to protect from other attacks. Tesla's Alexis Georgeson told AutoblogGreen that Tesla hasn't been able to verify the "least-stolen" moniker but said that, "We take the security of our cars very seriously and relentlessly continue to improve our vehicles via over-the-air updates, an ability unique to the industry. We will continue to work to stay ahead by providing the most sophisticated tools and technologies in our cars and working closely with security researchers to identify and address potential vulnerabilities."
Value Walk says that another reason for the low theft rate is that there might be very low demand for Model S parts, since the cars are still under warranty and there aren't many on the road. Still, the claim frequency is a fair comparison, and by that metric the Tesla Model S looks just awful to at least one group of people.

The Queue: The Rogue Queue
I got so many rogue question yesterday, thank you guys! I'm calling today the rogue Queue, because there are quite a few rogue questions to be answered -- but I've also mixed it up a little for those of you that have no love for the sneaky sneak stabbing class. I had so many questions there was no way to address them all -- if your question wasn't answered today, check back tomorrow. I may answer more from yesterday's Queue at that point, depending on how many questions come in today. Speaking of questions ... let's get right to them.
C.H. asked:
Do you think the WOD train level will be more like the train level in Goldeneye or Shadows of the Empire?
I'm hoping for the Phantom Train sequence from FF6. It was the best. And I'm not just saying this on the off chance that we'll be able to suplex the train.*

Starbucks to trawl for college students with food trucks
Filed under: Truck, Marketing/Advertising, Work
The old joke about Starbucks is that there are so many of the coffee shops across America that in some places you can sit in one location sipping a pumpkin spice latte and actually be able see another one of its stores across the street. If you think the brand is everywhere now, it's going to be truly ubiquitous at three universities this fall with a pilot program that has food trucks serving coffee to caffeine-starved students and faculty.
According to BusinessWeek, Starbucks has about 11,500 stores nationwide, but the company wants to increase its presence on college campuses. Therefore, it's launching this pilot program to see how things work by using trucks. They're already following herds of students at Arizona State University and James Madison University in Virginia, and Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina gets its coffee-delivery vehicle on September 18.
The true genius behind this plan is that the trucks aren't just going to sit in one place all day. Instead, they are moving around throughout the day to give students their first fix in the morning and be right there in the afternoon to top off their cups. Starbucks is even promising to adjust the trucks' hours as needed on each campus to suit customers, even staying open later than the dining halls in some cases. The company clearly knows once you get people hooked; they are going to keep coming back for more. Scroll down to read Starbucks' announcement of the pilot program.

ESPN Analysts Provide Insight to Kansas City Royals' Validity
The Kansas City Royals have seemingly been in a perpetual form of rebuilding. The team has struggled to find any consistent progression over the years. General Manager Dayton Moore has reminded fans for years to trust in "The Process." Craig Brown examined the history of "The Process" before the 2014 season at Royals Review, an SBNation site. It appears that "The Process" might finally be coming to fruition.
On the last day of August, the Royals will take the field against the division rival Cleveland Indians, and ESPN will feature the game in its Sunday Night Baseball broadcast. This late in the season, the sports channel focuses these broadcasts on exciting teams that are in the thick of the playoff hunt. That is unfamiliar territory for Royals fans.
It seems to be justified, however. While many fans have been waiting for the Royals to collapse, the team has continued to hold on to a first-place position in the standings. It is a spot that they share with the Detroit Tigers heading in to play August 31. They are a team that ESPN analyst Mark Mulder feels is capable of reaching the playoffs:
They are for real. They have a great bullpen and five consistent starters. They know what they are getting from their starter every night.
Indeed, pitching is a primary concern for most every playoff team. Mulder is not alone in his evaluation of the Royals' playoff aspirations. His colleague Buster Olney has similar sentiments:
Among the many dumb picks that I made before the season started—the Rays representing the AL in the World Series, for example—I picked the Royals to make the playoffs as a wildcard team. Now, I think they're better than that; I think they'll win the AL Central, because every day they run out a dominant bullpen and defense.
It sounds like the Royals are starting to make believers of the experts. Convincing Mulder that they can go far in the playoffs is still a different story. Speaking specifically about the Royals' style of play—which includes low strikeouts, strong defense and putting the ball in play—Mulder is not confident that the team can go far in the postseason:
Probably not. You never really string together 5 to 6 hits in an inning come playoff time. You need to be able to hit with some power.
Reaching the postseason may be enough for the Royals. Drawing attention this late in the season is certainly new to them and their fans. The progression continues.
Maybe this is all part of "The Process".

Tom Chilton: "We are already in progress with our next expansion"
When I first heard that Warlords of Draenor will be coming out on November 13th, I wondered if that meant it would be all that Blizzard had to talk about at BlizzCon this year. Now that I've read this, I wonder if they'll have the fortitude to announce a new expansion before Warlords even comes out. As crazy as that sounds, if they're working six expansions deep, even if just conceptually, it's definitely a possibility. We are already in progress with our next expansion. We already have zones in production for it. Our next expansion after that, we have a couple of different options that we'll be choosing between over the next several months. Beyond that, there are about six or seven different ideas for expansions that we can take elements of and say, 'You know what? Let's take that and put it in this one for our next expansion after the next one.' Or we might shift the timelines around from what we originally envisioned. There's easily 10 years worth of stuff that we can draw from - more, really.

Warlords of Draenor Beta: Patch notes for August 27th
The latest patch notes for the Warlords of Draenor beta are much less about sudden, massive changes and much more about getting damage and healing output where it needs to be for the live release of the game. So what are we looking at?
- The pandaren racial Epicurean now increases the effect of buff food by 75%, down from 100%.
- Typhoon's range was decreased to 15 yards, down from 30 yards.
- Pretty much every single class saw some damage adjusted up or down.

Did you miss in Pandaria?: The broken burner
Restore Balance sounds like it's just for druids, but anyone can earn it. The achievement asks you to "Visit the Shrine of Fellowship in the Jade Forest and follow in the footsteps of Chen Stormstout." What these cryptic instructions really mean is to find the in-game location where the Mists trailer happened.
Head northeast from Grookin Hill toward the mountain on your map. When you see Shrine of Fellowship pop up on your screen, you're in the right place. It's a flat, misty plateau with a prominent jade bell (it was featured in the cinematic).
Look for the Broken Incense Burner. You'll notice it's a bit crooked, just like in the trailer before Chen straightens it. Click on it to "restore balance" and you'll earn the achievement. I wonder if there will be a similar achievement for the Warlords trailer...

Fantasy Football Picks 2014: Top Sleeper Selections and Mock Draft Tips
In fantasy football, knowing which sleepers to take and which to avoid is often the difference between winning and losing.
Every year, unheralded players come out of nowhere to shine, and 2014 figures to be no different. With new names all across the league and shoes needing to be filled for all 32 teams, sleepers are emerging across the NFL as potential surprise impact players for this season.
Knowing which player is bound for a breakout—and selecting him before anyone else can get their hands on him—can be incredibly valuable when those middle rounds kick in. At that point, you're looking for those players that will be starting-lineup regulars by the end of the season who will leave you saying "I can't believe I got him that late."
Here is a look at the top sleeper from each skill position, as well as tips to follow on draft night.
Top Sleepers
Quarterback: Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers
Just like in years past, fantasy folks are sleeping on Philip Rivers.
The Chargers quarterback was pegged for a major regression in 2013. Well, he just came out and led the team that everyone wrote off in preseason to the playoffs behind 4,478 passing yards and 32 touchdowns.
Rivers finished last year seventh in scoring among all fantasy players in ESPN leagues and sixth among quarterbacks.
Entering 2014, fantasy experts are sure to bank on Rivers continuing his success with an emerging young receiving corps, right? Not quite—ESPN's preseason rankings have Rivers coming in as the No. 14 quarterback.
Suggesting that the 32-year-old is outside of the top 10 quarterbacks in the game is debatable, but there's no doubt that he puts up the numbers worthy of being a top-10 fantasy quarterback. He's coming off his best season and still has Keenan Allen, Danny Woodhead and the always-reliable Antonio Gates to throw to.
If you fill out your starters without a quarterback and wait for Rivers, it will be one of the smartest moves you make on draft night.
Running Back: Khiry Robinson, New Orleans Saints
Khiry Robinson has earned the role that Darren Sproles used to own in the Saints offense, and he's bound to put up Sproles-like fantasy numbers in 2014.
The 6'0", 220-pounder is big enough to tote the rock in the middle but makes his biggest impact on the outside with breakaway speed and elusive moves. He's been most successful in the preseason with New Orleans deploying him out wide and giving him the ball in space, and that will translate over to the regular season.
The second-year pro out of Texas A&M is set for a breakout season, and that will only be amplified if Mark Ingram or Pierre Thomas goes down.
Robinson is coming off the board in the 11th round on average, according to FantasyFootballCalculator.com, but take him a few picks earlier and you could end up with a player worthy of starting from Week 1.
Wide Receiver 1: Justin Hunter, Tennessee Titans
Fantasy experts are expecting a much-improved season from second-year wideout Justin Hunter, but he's still being undervalued.
FantasyFootballCalculator.com's average draft position (ADP) has Hunter coming in early in the ninth round. That's just above Tampa Bay rookie Mike Evans, for reference.
However, the 23-year-old will prove to be a player worthy of drafting a few rounds higher in 2014. Whether or not Jake Locker stays healthy, Ken Whisenhunt's offense will feature a strong passing attack that will utilize Hunter's big-play ability to contrast with Kendall Wright gashing the middle of the field.
All it takes is one or two big-time plays for Hunter to be worth starting in fantasy. With him proving to be one of the Titans' most used receivers in 2014, he'll get much more of an opportunity to make an impact this season.
Wide Receiver 2: Terrance Williams, Dallas Cowboys
Terrance Williams emerged throughout 2013 as a waiver option, but his value has soared entering the 2014 season.
The 6'2", 208-pound wideout dazzled in his rookie season with 736 yards and five touchdowns, but he will be a much more vital part of Tony Romo's offense this year. He holds a stranglehold over the No. 2 receiver slot, which means that blanket coverage of Dez Bryant will leave him with mismatches galore.
Early indications are that the Cowboys offense is going to have to put up big numbers to counteract a weak defense, and Williams will be one of the main recipients of a boost in offense.
Tight End: Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles
If Zach Ertz starts the 2014 season on the same tear that he finished 2013 on, he'll be in for a big year.
The rookie wasn't included much in the first half of the season, but Chip Kelly unleashed him in the second part of the year with success. He caught four touchdowns, all of which came in the second half of the season, and caught a touchdown in the playoff loss to the Saints.
In his second year, he figures to be Nick Foles' top tight end target in 2014, and that has NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah and others gushing over his potential:
Foles and the Eagles boast one of the NFL's most potent offenses. If that continues into next season, Ertz will be available for big game after big game.
Mock Draft Tips
Chase Receivers Early
2014 is shaping up to be a big year for marquee receivers.
Calvin Johnson has emerged yet again as a player worthy of a first-round selection, and Demaryius Thomas, A.J. Green, Julio Jones, Dez Bryant and Brandon Marshall all should come off the board before the end of Round 2 in conventional drafts.
If you find yourself in position to draft any of them with your first picks, don't hesitate to do so. In many cases, having a late pick in the first round will set yourself up to pick two of the league's top receivers with your first two picks.
Of course, the knock on doing this is passing on the top backs available. Although you won't land a Lacy, Marshawn Lynch or Doug Martin, you can wait to grab enticing options like Arian Foster, DeMarco Murray, Giovani Bernard and Andre Ellington in the early-to-middle rounds.
Outside the top 10 of receivers, it's much harder to find consistent star power than in the same portion of the running backs rankings. If you pick wideouts early on, you won't regret it.
Take What You're Given
It used to be common knowledge to take a running back in the first round no matter what, but that's just not the case in today's NFL.
Sure, nabbing Jamaal Charles, Adrian Peterson, LeSean McCoy or Matt Forte with your first pick would be a huge get and a key first piece to a championship team. But if one of the top backs isn't available when you select, don't immediately rule out the other top options on the board.
For instance, Peyton Manning in the middle of the first round may make more sense if one of the aforementioned backs is off the board, and you're left choosing between him and Eddie Lacy. Or you could lock up a game-changing receiver or tight end like Jimmy Graham or Calvin Johnson in Round 1 instead of jumping at the top-rated back.
This tactic can be applied later on in the draft as well when you are starting to round out your starting lineup and are looking to fill holes. Just because you have two backs and one receiver doesn't mean you should pass on Zac Stacy or Montee Ball to serve as a reliable flex stud.
Know Your League
Do you have that favorite player on your team that you can't wait to draft before everyone else? Well, make sure those allegiances don't correspond with the owners you're drafting against.
In my league with friends from Nashville, Tennessee, I can't get by picking promising rookie running back Bishop Sankey in his average spot. Not only is he emerging as a sleeper, but all of my friends have the same player circled on their board—along with receivers Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter or maybe even Delanie Walker.
Perhaps your buddy is a big Steelers fan, but Le'Veon Bell is coming up in a few picks and you're up. If you want your hands on him, better grab him before Mr. Pittsburgh adds his favorite back.
Fantasy owners can't help but show some favoritism to their teams, and that can get in the way of drafting a strong team from start to bottom. Thinking differently than some of your friends who hold the same fan allegiance can make all the difference.
Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest on Radamel Falcao and Rumours of Mega Deal
Carlo Ancelotti reportedly has funds to spend after Angel Di Maria and Xabi Alonso left the Bernabeu in recent days, jetting off to Manchester United and Bayern Munich, respectively.
BBC Sport confirmed that German champions Bayern had wrapped up the signing of Alonso on Friday, and Ancelotti's main focus now appears to be a striker, with Radamel Falcao once again closely linked with the European champions.
Karim Benzema signed a five-year extension with Real earlier this summer, but in a bid to build on last season's triumphs, the club will look to deepen their reserves up front.
Radamel Falcao
Falcao has been linked with a move to the Spanish capital for much of this summer, and it's now apparent he could yet leave Monaco this summer. ESPN FC's Miguel Delaney writes that Los Merengues are among the major clubs interested in a move.
Manchester City have also been associated with a €20 million season-long loan for the Colombian, but Spanish expert Graham Hunter says the Citizens are no longer in the running:
According to talkSPORT, Falcao's agent Jorge Mendes is in the process of finding a new destination for his sought-after client, holding talks with some of the continent's elite in recent days.
Real are thought to be among that list, but Arsenal could pose competition after Metro's Jamie Sanderson quoted Arsene Wenger in refusing to rule out a move of his own: "It is very difficult. All negotiations have to be discussed secretly. If something happens, you will of course be informed."
Los Blancos have a unique pulling power, and should they be willing to fork out the necessary funds, the allure of the Bernabeu could see Ancelotti's side yet win the race they've been a part of for some months now.
Alvaro Negredo
Manuel Pellegrini is confident of fending off any late interest in striker Alvaro Negredo, insisting that the striker will remain at the Etihad Stadium with rumours of a Real Madrid switch swirling.
The former Sevilla star moved to City last summer, and when quizzed on his forward's chances of leaving, per the Mirror's David McDonnell, Pellegrini said:
For the moment there is no news about that, for Negredo or anybody. We are not receiving any offers for any players. At this moment he is part of our squad and we are not trying to sell him and nobody has given an important offer.
Maybe one month ago some Spanish clubs had an interest in him but that was one month ago. At this moment Alvaro is injured but part of our squad. Last year he did very well and then had an injury with his shoulder and after that he didn’t play so well but he’s always an important player for us. We don’t want to sell him. We want him to stay with us.
Negredo is currently attempting to make his comeback from injury, and the official Manchester City Twitter account confirmed he would miss this weekend's Premier League meeting with Stoke City:
With Stevan Jovetic in flying form and Edin Dzeko already competing alongside Sergio Aguero for a place up front, the attacking depth at the Etihad is currently of an incredible quality.
However, it would seem the club's manager is hoping to keep it that way, evidently eager to ensure Negredo remains among his ranks for the season to come.
Kaz: Pushing The Virtual Divide Gran Turismo documentary now free on YouTube
Filed under: Videos, Toys/Games, Celebrities
The video game Gran Turismo arguably wasn't the first great driving simulator, but it came along at just the right time to do things no other console game had ever done so well before. First, the Sony PlayStation allowed for 3D graphics that could create a recognizable model of a car in 360 degrees. Also, GT offered a huge breadth of vehicles that could get almost anyone interested. Up to that point in time, most driving games focused on just Formula 1, rallying, production cars, or other specific subsets of the autosphere, but GT had everything, which made it possible to find your dream car and go racing. The full-length documentary movie Kaz: Pushing the Virtual Divide delves into the mind of series leader Kazunori Yamauchi, and now it's available for anyone to watch for free.
Kaz originally launched in the US on Hulu in January, but not everyone has access to that streaming service. The documentary looks at the history of Gran Turismo starting from its early development and interviews Yamauchi about his theory behind making it. It also examines some of the racing that the series of games is emulating and influencing, including little kids getting into karting and the Nissan GT Academy. It's all done with beautiful cinematography and direction from Tamir Moscovici, who also helmed a 30-minute documentary about Magnus Walker. Note: Large portions of the movie have Yamauchi speaking in his native Japanese, so you're going to want to turn on subtitles to watch this intriguing film.

Breakfast Topic: How The New Models Got Me To Play A Nelf Again
Back in Wrath, I started tanking for my guild again. Because we were doing heroic Anub, I decided to race change to night elf for the Quickness racial, because it made pushing unhittable to tank the adds just that little bit easier. I did this thing. And man, I hated it. Playing as a night elf meant looking goofy as heck. Luckily, we were soon in Icecrown Citadel and our tier set covered up a multitude of flaws, but I was still unhappy with the night elf dude and did not miss it when I switched to draenei for the hit.
Flash forward to now. The new night elf guy has his work in progress model. Aside from still burying his face in his shoulder like he's sobbing when he uses a 2h weapon, it's leaps and bounds improved. I like it a lot better. And so, now I'm running around the beta on a nelf. And that's my story.
And now, comment time. Have any of the new models got you to try a race you normally never would? Horde side I'm seriously contemplating a troll right about now.

Level 3 of the Gladiator's Sanctum unlocks the Highmaul Coliseum, shown in the video above. A solo scenario, the Coliseum places you in a pit with other players. Once the event starts, it's a free-for-all brawl, and the last person standing wins the spoils. What kind of spoils? PvP gear, of course! To unlock the level 3 blueprint for the Gladiator's Sanctum, players must first complete The Bone Collector, an achievement that requires players to collect 4,000 Broken Bones from PvP combat in Draenor -- any kill that awards honor also awards 3-6 bones. Once you've built the level 3 Sanctum, you gain access to Highmaul Coliseum, as well as a buff that reduces all damage in outdoor Draenor zones by 50% if you fall below 35% health.
Take a look at the video for more of the Coliseum in action -- I particularly like how dead players are teleported up into the stands to watch the rest of the brawl play out, spectator style.

The Queue: Big Blizzard, Warcraft RTS, and Alts
Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.
Let's dive into the deep end of the pool today and start tackling some of these questions and views.
Hyde asked:
Before the release of Wrath of the Lich King, a Blizzard developer talked about how they had some extra content planned in case the release of Wrath did not go they way they wanted. Now, we've had a very large dry spell of content without a peep about Blizzard having a back up this time around. Why did the company not have some extras? If Chilton is to be believed, they admitted to being "slowed down." Would it not be prudent to have something to fall back on?

This forgotten Chrysler was its bid for Humvee contract
Filed under: Concept Cars, Classics, Truck, Videos, Chrysler, Military, Design/Style
Today, the Humvee might be as associated with the dead automotive brand from General Motors as it is with the hard-working truck that has long served as one of the backbone vehicles of America's military. But Autoline host John McElroy is showing off a practically unknown part of the model's story by digging out some old photos from his personal archive.
The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle project, better known today as the Humvee, can be traced back to a US Department of Defense request for bids to build a new military truck. According to McElroy, he was invited to the Chrysler proving grounds in 1981 to check out the bid from the brand's defense division. The company's concept was that it might be able to build an inexpensive, capable vehicle by using off-the-shelf parts.
The angular body panels gave the truck a look almost like a modern, stealth vehicle. However, the flat look was actually just to make the tooling as cheap as possible to produce. Still, this Chrysler looked surprisingly futuristic for the early '80s. It's actually not too far away from the famous Lamborghini LM002, itself intended as a possible military-spec machine.
Obviously, Chrysler's proposal never made it to production, but it's interesting to think that if history had gone differently, this could have been America's military vehicle rather than the Hummer. Fast-forward to the 3:35-mark in the video to get the full scoop on this forgotten piece of automotive history.
