The feud is not something unique to the rich and famous—if it was, like limitless credit cards or VIP-only Oscar afterparties, there would be no Family Feud or "Hello...Newman."
But your feud with the downstairs neighbor who reliably blasts wuss-rock from 7:00 a.m. to "???" every Sunday isn't featured on the New York Post's Page Six.
Athletes and other sports celebrities, like their counterparts in Hollywood and the major media, rarely need encouragement when the spotlight beckons.
And a weirdo feud between two personalities who are the personification of a bad joke when they walk into a bar together is sure headline-grabber.
2014 has produced a bumper crop of awesome feuds between sports stars and their celebrity nemeses; some represent freshly-brewed conflicts, while others are simply reignited but longstanding.
These are the best new feuds in sports.

Barcelona have been linked with Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Marco Reus.
Per Toni Juanmarti at Sport, the Catalan giants would look to purchase him at the end of this season, for his buyout clause of €35 million.
Reus is contracted at Dortmund until 2017, and with what happened to Mario Gotze fresh in the memory, Dortmund want to extend Reus' contract.
Gotze signed for Bayern Munich after they shelled out €37 million to pay his release clause and caused a stir among Dortmund supporters.
However, per Bild (h/t David Kent of the Daily Mail), talks over a new deal collapsed and Reus is trying to engineer his way to one of the world's top sides.
Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are the clubs that have been linked with a move for Reus.
However, while turning your nose up at the chance to sign one of the world's biggest stars is not something that many clubs have the chance to do, Barcelona are in a position where the pursuit of Reus would be totally unnecessary.
They have several attacking options, with the front line of Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi more than enough firepower and the likes of Andres Iniesta, Gerard Deulofeu, Pedro and Ivan Rakitic able to provide the ammunition.
The only reason Reus needs be pursued is if Iniesta shows a rapid decline in form this season now he has turned 30.
However, if the World Cup is anything to go by, where he comfortably outperformed every other player in a misfiring Spain squad, then a loss of form will not be an issue.
Reus, 25, would be a good long-term replacement for Iniesta, but you have to assume the Spaniard has another two seasons at the top of his game at least.
Furthermore, Messi is more than comfortable dropping deeper and playing in the hole.
Part of the reason for signing Suarez, or any No. 9-type figure, is to have a plan B.
That would be to pull Messi in from the front, so he can pull the strings between the midfield and the attack.
Suarez or Neymar, or even the pair of them, would then spearhead the attack.
Furthermore, if Enrique intends to field Javier Mascherano in midfield, then there's one less role that Reus could feature in.
It has been suggested that the Argentine could play alongside Sergio Busquets as a double pivot at the base of Barcelona's midfield.
Ahead of them this season could be any of Iniesta, Rakitic or pass-master Xavi, who is staying for the final year of his contract.
Perhaps at the end of the season when Xavi goes, you could argue for Reus to replace him.
In reality, Rakitic would like to have made enough of an impact by then to claim that attacking midfield position for himself.
Reus is a fantastic player, of that there is no doubt. But it's time Barcelona looked at the areas they really need to improve on, rather than simply cherry-picking the best attacking talent.

Boston Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz is hoping to avoid a dubious feat this season, as he's in danger of becoming the first pitcher to triple his ERA from one year to the next while throwing more than 100 innings in both campaigns, per ESPN Stats & Info (via Elias Sports Bureau).
After posting a 1.74 ERA over 108.1 frames (16 starts) last year, Buchholz saw his 2014 ERA balloon to 5.87 with an ugly outing Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The 29-year-old surrendered seven runs (all earned) over five innings in a 14-1 loss, and he now owns the American League's fourth-worst ERA among pitchers who have tossed 60 or more frames.
With 96.2 innings to his name this season, Buchholz will likely hit triple digits in his next start, which is scheduled for Sunday against the New York Yankees.
As the first part of the criteria is seemingly unavoidable, Buchholz will need to lower his ERA below 5.22 by the end of the season to avoid an unfortunate piece of history.
Optimism may be hard to come by in Boston these days, but Buchholz does stand a decent chance to finish south of the 5.22 mark.
Since returning from a knee injury June 25, he owns a semi-respectable 4.63 ERA over seven starts.
Prior to the injury, Buchholz—owner of a 3.86 career ERA—posted an unsightly 7.02 mark through his first 10 starts of the season.

Andre Johnson ended his two-month holdout by reporting to the start of training camp, but it didn't take long for him to return back to the sidelines.
According to The Houston Chronicle's Brian T. Smith, the Houston Texans' star wide receiver tweaked his right hamstring while making a catch down the middle of the field during practice Monday.
Of course, this is a time for teams to proceed with caution, especially when it comes to veterans who have 11 seasons under their belt, and that's more than likely what's going on here. Both Johnson and head coach Bill O'Brien downplayed the injury.
“I don’t know (if I will be limited). We’ll see what happens,” Johnson said. “Like I said, it’s nothing that I’m seriously (worried about). Anytime you get a nick or anything, you know, you worry about it.”
Still, this is at least something worth paying attention to. Johnson skipped all offseason workouts, and this could certainly be a negative effect from that. Moreover, the Texans' depth at wide receiver is iffy at best. DeAndre Hopkins has the look of a future star, but backups Keshawn Martin and DeVier Posey combined for just 37 receptions last season.
Pro Football Focus' Mike Clay noted the problem back when there was talk of the 33-year-old being traded:
Johnson, who has a silly 221 catches and 3,005 yards over the past two seasons, is needed healthy if the Texans are going to rebound from a miserable 2013 season. Fortunately, this injury sounds very minor.
Arsenal fans have every reason to feel optimistic ahead of the new league campaign after Arsene Wenger has moved with decisiveness to strengthen his first-team squad during the summer window.
The club have learned valuable lessons about how to operate at the top level of the transfer market from the experience of signing Mesut Ozil twelve months ago.
The German’s arrival signalled a new willingness at boardroom level to utilize the considerable financial firepower that the club has at its disposal since paying down the stadium debt and renegotiating a series of high-profile sponsorship deals.
The Gunners have already added the Barcelona and Chile striker, Alexis Sanchez, for a fee in excess of £30 million. And the France international right-back, Mathieu Debuchy, and Columbia goalkeeper, David Ospina, have followed from Newcastle and Nice, respectively.
Southampton’s England Under-19 full-back, Calum Chambers, meanwhile, is also set to complete a move to the Emirates in the coming days for a fee of £16 million. And speculation persists that Sami Khedira of Real Madrid could be on the verge of swapping the Bernabeu for Arsenal in the coming weeks.
The Arsenal manager is also thought to retain an interest in Southampton’s 24-year-old holding midfielder, Morgan Schneiderlin, should his efforts to lure Khedira to London prove unsuccessful.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender has also been identified as a potential midfield addition.
This proactiveness in the transfer market has been far from characteristic of Arsenal and Wenger over the eight years since leaving Highbury.
Finances were tight after the construction of the Emirates, and Wenger was forced to pursue a transfer strategy predicated on buying young, talented footballers from smaller clubs around Europe and developing them into first-team players at Arsenal.
The difficulty was that these players never intended to hang around too long once they had made their name at the Emirates. The cases of Ashely Cole, Gael Clichy, Emmanuel Adebayor, Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Alex Song and Robin van Persie demonstrate this truth well.
The rise of the petro-dollar-rich Chelsea and Manchester City, meanwhile (what Wenger futilely railed against as “financial doping” in a 2010 press conference), served to set in even sharper relief from Arsenal’s financial impotence, relative to that of the leading clubs around Europe with whom they were supposed to be competing.
What chaffed at and unsettled Gunners fans most during these eight barren, trophyless years, was the fact that, although one could legitimately brand players such as Nasri, Adebayor and van Persie as “mercenaries” for abandoning the club that made them the stars whom they are in the interests of financial gain, the reality was that these footballers left Arsenal in order to win trophies, too.
Nasri stated this in no uncertain terms earlier this year when he told The Daily Star, “I spent three seasons at Arsenal without any title, and at the end of the season we sold our best player that was Cesc Fabregas.”
“I preferred to join City,” Nasri added, “and I won titles and I earn a better living.”
There was a widespread belief at this time that Arsenal was a club in an immutable phase of decline, and that Wenger was no longer the man best placed to revive their fortunes.
The Özil signing, though, seemed to halt this narrative in its tracks.
Nevertheless, there remain imbalances in Arsenal’s squad that Wenger must address in order to make the Gunners a genuine force to be reckoned with ahead of the new season.
The move for Chambers, for example, has come as a surprise to some Gunners, owing to the fact that Debuchy was seen as the direct (and arguably superior) replacement for the departed Bacary Sagna in the same way that Ospina has joined as an upgrade on Lukas Fabianski in goals.
Furthermore, Carl Jenkinson would seem to have already established his credentials as a competent replacement right-back at Premier League level.
The 22-year-old has become a real fan-favourite at the Emirates, owing to the fact that he has supported the club from childhood and undergone a steep learning curve since joining Arsenal as a 19-year-old from Charlton Athletic in 2011.
Wenger, though, views Chambers as possessing a potential for improvement and level of versatility far superior to that of Jenkinson.
At 19, Chambers has already featured 25 times in the Southampton senior team. And he has demonstrated both his positional adaptability and two-footedness by impressively deputizing for Luke Shaw at left-back last season.
Wenger may also see Chambers as an alternative option at centre-half where the Gunners are short on options, particularly if Thomas Vermaelen’s move to Manchester United or Barcelona comes to pass.
If “Chambers as centre-half” is a part of Wenger’s thinking in signing the England youth international, Arsenal fans can be legitimately unsettled. The Gunners skated on thin ice by playing the entirety of the last campaign with just three recognized centre-backs.
To allow Vermaelen to leave, and to proceed with Mertesacker, Koscielny and Chambers alone is almost suicidal.
A proper replacement centre-half has to be a priority for Arsenal, and one can legitimately question whether the Chambers money might have been more prudently invested elsewhere in the squad.
The emphasis Wenger has placed on adding Khedira, too, seems strange.
The German international, though wonderfully gifted, is far from the same style of holding player as Bender and Schneiderlin. His presence in the squad would provide little more defensive balance than that which Mikel Arteta brings to the first XI and would surely stymie Ramsey and Wilshire’s progression.
Thus, while the transfer window has been hugely promising from an Arsenal point of view, fatal deficiencies in terms of squad depth remain in a defensive sense.
One struggles to see a squad relying on Chambers as a centre-back lasting the distance with Chelsea and Manchester City over the course of a nine-month season.

As the July 31 MLB trade deadline approaches, teams have begun to make clearer decisions between acting as buyers or sellers. With several organizations taking a 2015-first approach in recent days, the available talent on the market has begun to swell.
There has been a more proactive approach this year, with several teams striking early and consequently forcing the hands of their competitors. So after years of deadline duds, the sellers' market that has emerged could result in some highly consequential action.
For all rumors surrounding some of the biggest names on the market, check out the latest buzz below.
Lester Heading West?
After trading Jake Peavy to the San Francisco Giants last week, the Boston Red Sox could be sending another veteran starter to the NL West. Longtime Sox ace Jon Lester has had a sterling campaign, and according to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Los Angeles Dodgers have emerged as the favorites for Lester:
The 30-year-old southpaw is on pace to set career-bests in ERA, FIP and xFIP and has increased his strikeout rate to its highest marks since 2010. After shouldering a huge burden in carrying Boston through the postseason in 2013, Lester has piggybacked off that success and re-established himself as a true ace after a couple of rocky seasons.
There had been rumors surrounding Matt Kemp as a potential centerpiece for a Lester deal, but The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo shot down those rumblings later:
Indeed, for a Red Sox team with a loaded farm system, sending Lester away could be an opportunity to accelerate their return to contenders. Given Boston's outfield woes, Dodgers prospect Joc Pederson might be part of the Red Sox's request, though Los Angeles has been slow to make Pederson available.
Similar to the David Price rumors, the Dodgers acquiring Lester might seem like overkill. With Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke in tow, few can match the top of Los Angeles' rotation. Lester would certainly upgrade the postseason pitching staff, but the Dodgers are likely at the top of the heap already.
With Lester set to hit free agency this winter, the Red Sox could cash in before potentially losing him to a mega-contract offer. Given the fireworks these two teams engaged in during the 2012 season, it would be wise to keep track of developments between them.
Zobrist to Giants?
Though the Rays have caught fire of late, they remain 7.5 games out of the AL East lead, with five teams to leapfrog for the second wild-card spot as well. As such, the likes of Price and Ben Zobrist could remain on the block over the next few days. The Giants are apparently among the teams interested in the latter:
San Francisco's desire for Zobrist makes sense. On a park-adjusted basis, the Giants' second basemen rank 26th in hitting. The likes of Brandon Hicks and Ehire Adrianza have failed to produce, and Marco Scutaro is on the disabled list. The versatile Zobrist would provide a much-needed upgrade in the middle infield.
But the Giants farm system was already relatively weak, and they traded two of their top prospects for Peavy, according to ESPN's Keith Law (subscription required). The Rays have been consistent in demanding exorbitant prices for Zobrist and Price, so pitcher Kyle Crick and/or catcher Andrew Susac would likely open the discussion.
San Francisco may be all in to capture their third championship in the past five years, however. Crick might be untouchable, and someone like shortstop Christian Arroyo might be a more centerpiece. Regardless, it's clear an NL West arms race between the Giants and the Dodgers has started.
Hamels Moving?
The Phillies' window of contention has quite clearly passed, as they are floundering in the NL East basement and on the verge of missing the postseason for the third straight year. Nonetheless, according to Cafardo, Philadelphia general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. remains ambivalent about shedding his veteran stars, including ace starter Cole Hamels:
The Phillies have been wishy-washy on whether they will make lefthander Cole Hamels available. Hamels could land the biggest haul if the Phillies are serious about rebuilding their farm system, then using the $90 million savings on signing mid-range free agents.
The Phillies want four or five prospects for Hamels (I wrote three last week and was told by a Phillies official I was too conservative) and it doesn’t appear anyone would pay that type of bounty. Around the industry, the Phillies are being perceived as asking too much for their players. The Phillies are saying “make us a fair deal.”
Considering that Philadelphia's farm system is barren after years of win-now trades, failing to restock the minors would appear fallacious. The Phillies are apparently doing their due diligence, though, as scouts were spotted in Portland, Maine for the Red Sox Double-A squad:
If the Sox trade Lester as hinted above, they could potentially replace his hole in the rotation with Hamels. Boston's top pitching prospect, lefty Henry Owens, is in Portland, though he would seemingly be untouchable. Catcher Blake Swihart could also be a target for the Phils, as Fangraphs recently named the 22-year-old the best backstop in the minors.
Moving Hamels would represent a refreshingly rational self-evaluation from the Phillies. If they can extract a top prospect like Owens or Swihart, they could start acquiring the cornerstones for their next World Series contender.
