Breakfast Topic: Do you find frequent system updates unnerving?
But is there at point at which constant change and system updates become annoying, off-putting, or even intimidating? Players who are deep in the throes of a love affair with raiding or competitive PvP or one particular character probably have the easiest time of it. Swallowing a new gameplay system may give them pause, but for these players, it's onward and upward. Casual players who log in less frequently and more sporadically, however, may have a tougher time keeping up with a constant stream of changes, and players with multiple characters will find themselves with a full plate of research to chew through.
Do you always look forward to system updates and new features? At what point do shifting gameplay foundations begin to feel off-putting and perhaps even a little intimidating -- from "Ugh, I'm not sure I'm up to wading through figuring out how these new talents work together tonight -- pizza and a movie instead?" to "This isn't the character I signed up to play; I'm out!"?

Video: Watch one man drive a KTM X-Bow at the track, then get the girl
Filed under: Motorsports, Videos, Specialty, MISC, Racing
C'etait un Rendezvous is a legendary film with a very simple premise - a man drives very quickly to be with the woman he loves, careening through the streets of Paris with a blatant disregard for things like road signs, speed limits and pigeons. This film, from South African director Seagram Pearce, has a similar but much more law-abiding plot.
An unnamed racer arrives a track, gets his safety gear on, and zips around at the wheel of a KTM X-Bow. All the while, a beautiful woman watches on, with the driver finishing the film alongside his leading lady.
Take a look below for the stylized, beautifully filmed piece.

Under-the-Radar 2013-13 NBA Rookies Guaranteed to Surprise Fans
Every year there's a few guys who make general managers feel silly for passing on them. Some just completely slip under the radar, which can be attributed to a poor fit or role in their college system.
It's tough to expect results right away from any rookie. Most teams typically fill out their rotations during free agency and put their rookies in developmental situations.
But some rookies find a way to sneak through the cracks. These are the guys who might not have starred in college but should make an NBA impact by playing to their strengths.

Glorious Goodwood Racing 2013: Predictions for Wednesday's Races
The second day of Glorious Goodwood commences on Wednesday with seven races certain to be filled with drama, excitement and surprises at Chichester, West Sussex.
The biggest race of the day is the Sussex Stakes, one of two Group One races during the five-day meet.
The bumper card also includes the Goodwood Stakes and a race for the juveniles, the Vintage Stakes, which is now a Group Two event.
Here's a guide on where you should put your money.
Race cards and odds courtesy of Racingpost.com.
Goodwood Stakes Handicap
One of the longest races on the British racing calendar, the Goodwood Stakes Handicap promises to provide spectators with an interesting first race.
Nine of the last 11 winners had won at two miles previously, while five of the last 11 were favourites to emerge victorious.
Our pick: Lieutenant Miller (7-1)
In good form, and trainer Nicky Henderson has won the race twice before, most recently with Ghimaar in 2010.
Sussex Stakes
The most prestigious race of the entire week, the Sussex Stakes covers one mile and is for horses at least three years old.
It will no doubt attract huge amounts of interest among bookmakers, particularly as nine of the last 14 winners have been either the favourite or second-favourite in the pre-race betting.
Our pick: Toronado (6-4)
The second favourite, Toronado and jockey Richard Hughes can keep up their recent good form by ousting Dawn Approach (11-10).
Vintage Stakes
Run over seven furlongs, the Vintage Stakes is now a Group Two race after many of its winners went onto greater success in later life.
It's been 11 years since an outsider won this race, with Dublin triumphing despite 11-1 odds back in 2002. It will take a superb ride for that statistic to change today.
Our pick: Parbold (2-1)
With an extra race and its belt, Parbold can pip the promising favourite Toormore (6-4) to the line.
Evening Weather Active Inland
The first half of our night may produce severe weather, especially for inland counties. Large hail and damaging straight line winds are the biggest threats.

Video: Acura teases 17 seconds of the NSX on Vine and Instagram

Acura won't roll out the prototype NSX until August 4 when it shows up at Mid-Ohio Raceway for the Honda 200 IndyCar race, and the genuine production car isn't scheduled to arrive until 2015. Acura will, though, make the car a Vine and Instagram video star with snippets of the mid-engined roarer lapping the test track in both the dry and the wet.
After unleashing a six-second loop on Twitter's video service yesterday, it gave fans a bit more by uploading a nine-second clip on Instagram of the coupe throwing up rooster tails and sliding around bends. Best of all is the sound - it's like no Acura you've ever heard outside of a race track. You can check out both videos below.

Lionel Messi Will Be Just as Successful Under Gerardo Martino
Change is often a scary thing for anyone. Fortunately, Barcelona fans have nothing to be worried about with the latest change at manager.
After Tito Vilanova had to step down due to health concerns, the club decided to hire Gerardo Martino. This will be the third coach is as many seasons after Pep Guardiola resigned after the 2011-12 season.
Still, star player Lionel Messi has remained solid throughout the years and should not be affected by these changes at the top. In fact, the new hire could make the forward even better.
According to The Sun, Messi denied any involvement in the hiring process to bring in the fellow Argentine, although the player did concede that "he seemed like a good coach."
This is a bit of an understatement for a person who was named South American Coach of the Year in 2007 and has been a part of championship clubs in both Paraguay and Argentina. Most recently, he brought Messi's former club, Newell's Old Boys, to the semifinals of the prestigious Copa Libertadores.
His experience and winning attitude is certain to bring even more success with a talented roster at Barcelona.
However, it is the style that he is bringing that will really help out the offense. Martino respects the current form at Camp Nou, but he wants to incorporate his own changes. According to the club's official site, he had this to say during his introductory press conference:
We will try to recuperate some of the things we saw in the best version of Barça. Creating pressure and getting the ball back quickly are two of the things we really want to get the team doing again.
As a former player under Marcelo Bielsa, Martino has utilized a more aggressive defense in his coaching career, and this will be seen right away at Barcelona.
While this game plan is riskier as it leaves the backs more likely to get beat, it also has a high reward of getting the ball back to the offensive players quicker. The La Liga club already excels at keeping possession, so maintaining the ball for longer could be devastating for opponents.
This strategy will get more touches for Messi, which he will almost certainly turn into more goals with his elite ball skills and finishing ability.
Additionally, the forward can be more active defensively as well while taking over the ball deeper in the opponent's zone. This will once again give him more opportunities near the net.
One other notable statement that was made during the press conference was regarding the addition of Neymar to the roster. Martino said, "If Messi and Neymar can`t work together, that’s because the coach has a problem, not the players."
This is incredibly encouraging for those worried about how two impact players would be able to coexist on the pitch at the same time. It is clear that the new coach will make it a priority to ensure that he gets the most out of his biggest stars.
Messi has been arguably the top player in the world for the past few years. He has won the Ballon d'Or four years in a row and continues to set records with his goal-scoring ability.
In case there was any concern that the new coach would slow him down at all, those issues can be put to rest.

You won't be able to get them after 5.4 launches, so I wouldn't anticipate any new things to do with them at that point; if you're just asking if you can turn them in post-5.4, I wouldn't even count on that.

Johny Hendricks Wants to Break Something...Will It Be Enough to Beat GSP?
Rory MacDonald vs. Jake Ellenberger has got the MMA world yammering about '"exciting versus boring" in the context of what takes place when the door to the Octagon is slammed shut.
Boring could be translated to smart or effective, depending on who you ask. Smart, boring, whatever you want to call it won out when MacDonald stymied Ellenberger. The battle of juxtaposing superlatives will wage on when champ Georges St-Pierre takes on Johny Hendricks at UFC 167.
Hendricks will look to strike up a convo. St-Pierre will look to snuff out his attempt at banter. GSP will lay it on thick with his top game while "Big Rig" will try to lighten things up with his power punching. The French Canadian is thinking jab and takedown—rinse, wash and repeat—while the Dallas, Texas native really wants to feel good by breaking something.
Speaking at Monday's UFC World Tour 2013 stop in Las Vegas (h/t MMAJunkie), Hendricks waxed poetic about what he plans on doing when he steps in the cage opposite GSP.
I don't want to take 'GSP' down, I want to lay him out. That's all I want to do. That's what the fans want to see, and I know I have the power in both hands to do it. I will bite on my mouthpiece and eat a jab to land a right or a left hand on his jaw line. That's the difference. Punch me in the face, I'll punch you twice as hard.
When I'm in there, my goal is to break someone's jaw. Let them forget who they are that night. Let them wake up the next morning and go, 'What the hell happened?' That's my goal every fight. If he's going to sit there and do that jab, watch. I'll bite on the mouthpiece. I'll eat one to throw my left or right hand all day long.
Hendricks is saying all the right things. Or at least saying what Dana White and every fan wants to hear (not that Dana is specifically rooting for his popular champ to lose, but he is a fan of "exciting" fights).
But will his talk translate into actually touching the champ's chin and putting his lights out? That is a tall order. Whether or not Hendricks can seal the deal is why so many are ready for them to get it on.
At least he will make it exciting. Or, attempt to make it exciting.
If the affair is anything like GSP's fight with Koscheck, we will be watching the champ put on a jab clinic. And it won't be Hendricks doing any breaking, rather it'll be St-Pierre. Who can forget what Koscheck's eye looked like after curious George showed us what a face mutates into after breaking the orbital bone?
So while Hendricks has committed to being footloose and fancy free, it in no way guarantees anything. Not a win. Not excitement. It will be on to St-Pierre to be a willing dance partner. Don't count on that.
GSP wants to win. He is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that. That takes commitment when verbal venom like "safe" or "boring" is flying at your face from all angles. It may as well be molten lava.
And if Hendricks loses, at least he can sleep at night knowing he did everything he could to be exciting, while also trying to win. He is a man of principles—at least we can give him that.

Time Warner Cable drops CBS in NYC, LA and Dallas (update: maybe not)
Time Warner Cable and CBS have been negotiating over a retrans deal for quite some time, and after several extensions talks broke down tonight. TWC's static replacement page for the networks even suggests Aereo as a replacement, an interesting endorsement considering the online service's legal entanglements. According to a statement from Time Warner Cable, this means it's dropping CBS in regions including New York City, Dallas and Los Angeles. Nationally, Time Warner Cable subscribers will do without Showtime, The Movie Channel, Flix and Smithsonian Channel. As CBS' website helpfully points out, if it goes one this means subscribers will also miss college and pro football, MLB, PGA Tour and US Open events, shows like Under the Dome, CSI and more. Of course, Time Warner Cable's site points to options like the CBS.com website. We'll see who holds out, and for how long -- check after the break for a list of affected channels and areas.
Update: According to Time Warner Cable, at the request of CBS it has stopped removing the channels, so if you've been seeing a replacement screen your programs may be back very soon. Both sides indicate negotiations are ongoing, we'll let you know if there are any updates.

Activision-Blizzard separates itself from Vivendi for $8.2B
Activison-Blizzard is splitting from its parents company Vivendi. In a deal reached today, Activision-Blizzard will buy itself from Vivendi for $8.2 billion in share acquisition. After the split, Activision-Blizzard will be a public company (still), and will have Bobby Kotick (still) as the CEO.
There is no indication anything will be changing at Blizzard (and there is no reason for it to, either).
This move comes on the news that Vivendi was considering using Activision-Blizzard's cash reserves to pay down its massive debt. Given the split is happening, well, that's out of the picture in many ways (at least directly, who know what's they'll do with the money they're getting).
More information is available from Joystiq, Polygon, and The New York Times.

Psychometric performance of the CAMPHOR and SF-36 in pulmonary hypertension
The Cambridge Pulmonary Hypertension Outcome Review (CAMPHOR) and the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form 36 (SF-36) are widely used to assess patient-reported outcome in individuals with pulmonary hypertension (PH). The aim of the study was to compare the psychometric properties of the two measures.
Methods:
Participants were recruited from specialist PH centres in Australia and New Zealand. Participants completed the CAMPHOR and SF-36 at two time points two weeks apart. The SF-36 is a generic health status questionnaire consisting of 36 items split into 8 sections. The CAMPHOR is a PH-specific measure consisting of 3 scales; symptoms, activity limitations and needs-based QoL. The questionnaires were assessed for distributional properties (floor and ceiling effects), internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha), test-retest reliability and construct validity (scores by World Health Organisation functional classification).
Results:
The sample comprised 65 participants (mean (SD) age = 57.2 (14.5) years; n(%) male = 14 (21.5%)). Most of the patients were in WHO class 2 (27.7%) and 3 (61.5%). High ceiling effects were observed for the SF-36 bodily pain, social functioning and role emotional domains. Test-retest reliability was poor for six of the eight SF-36 domains, indicating high levels of random measurement error. Three of the SF-36 domains did not distinguish between WHO classes. In contrast, all CAMPHOR scales exhibited good distributional properties, test retest reliability and distinguished between WHO functional classes.
Conclusions:
The CAMPHOR exhibited superior psychometric properties, compared with the SF-36, in the assessment of PH patient-reported outcome.
Video: World's Most Expensive Motorcycle has frame made from gold
Filed under: Videos, Motorcycle, Design/Style
This motorcycle embraces two very different dynamics. On the one hand, it's quite possibly the most expensive motorcycle ever built, with some experts speculating that the frame alone is worth $1 million. On the other hand, it looks old and beaten up, like a steampunk MadMax.
Designed by an extremely wealthy Turkish motorcycle fan, Tarhan Telli, the basics are include an 1801cc V-Twin with 125 horsepower, a six-speed transmission and a 700-pound curb weight. But what makes it special, aside from the frame that's made entirely from gold, is the artistry. As Motorcycle explains, Telli wanted high-end materials, like the gold, but wasn't looking for something shouty, opting for worn materials with interesting patinas. So, basically, he commissioned a bike with a frame made from gold, but didn't want it to be too loud, so he went to further lengths to obscure the gold finish. This may be the world's biggest humblebrag.
Telli has approached the Guinness Book of World Records to get his one-off creation certified as the world's most expensive motorcycle. He isn't revealing what it cost him to build, but if he spent a million bucks on the frame, we'd expect the entire bike might be a few times that. Scroll down for the video.

World of Warcraft down to 7.7M subscribers
Noted in the press release this evening announcing the split of Activision-Blizzard from Vivendi is the fact that World of Warcraft ended the last quarter at 7.7 million subscribers, down from 8.3 million in March.
...
Subscriber Definition: World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.
It should be noted that these numbers are world-wide, and they are not broken out into the North American / European / Asian split that people often like to talk about.

Patch 5.4 PTR: Timeless Transmog and Cosmetic Glyph Video
The new item level 496 sets look great, too, and would be just as great for alts as they would for a main's shiny new set. They are obtained both via rare drops and from collecting up the Timeless Coins and purchasing them from vendors, and it's also possible to get direct drops from both rares and chests. What's your preferred set? Personally, I honestly think the cloth set is one of the first ones I've actually liked from this expansion. Only the highlighted sets are specific to the Timeless Isle, the others are all looks we're used to from sources like Mogushan Vaults or Valor Points.

Darts World Matchplay 2013 Results: Examining Phil Taylor vs. Adrian Lewis Match
Beginning with 32 competitors, the World Matchplay field has been whittled down to just two remaining players, with Adrian Lewis set to line up opposite World No. 1 Phil Taylor on Sunday night.
Unsurprisingly, it was the Professional Darts Corporation’s top four ranked players who made it to the semifinals of this year’s event.
Taylor gathered himself after a shaky period to nudge past World No. 4 James Wade with a 17-12 shutout, putting himself on course for a record 14th World Matchplay title.
So pleased was he with the win that Taylor thought to tweet his post-match interview:
Lewis’ last outing was an altogether more closely fought affair as the World No. 3 managed to overcome the odds and beat World No. 2, “Mighty” Michael van Gerwen, with a score of 17-15.
In terms of ease, making his way to the finale has most certainly been an easier feat for Taylor than it has been for his coming opponent.
In the four rounds it’s taken each player to get to this stage, not once has “Jackpot” managed to amass a higher points average than his former mentor. Not once has Lewis managed to stake a claim as being superior to the seasoned pro in this particular competition.
It’s that sense of power discourse in the tie that lends another angle to the coming encounter, too.
Both originating from Stoke-On-Trent, 52-year-old Taylor was once mentor to the 28-year-old Lewis, helping the latter to perfect his game during the earlier stages of his career.
However, Lewis has had his glossier moments over the last week, not least of which is his most recent display: the comeback victory against van Gerwen.
In that particular match, the less-experienced finalist found himself 15-14 down, but he managed to level matters with double seven before going on to triumph, winning on the same number.
It seemed luck was with Lewis.
Speaking after the game, per Sky Sports, Lewis said:
I've shut up the critics again and I'm looking forward to the final. I've told you I was one of the best before and I've proved it tonight. I just need to maintain it now.
Of course, “The Power” has no critics to silence, at least not in terms of his playing ability.
In his last match against Wade, Taylor averaged a score of 107.61, the highest of any player in the tournament thus far, and the veteran has so far failed to average below 100 in any of his four appearances.
So far, Taylor has come through this year’s edition of the tournament playing only English opponents, clearing all in his vision.
On Sunday evening, he’ll look to make it a sweep of five in a row, with Lewis next in his sights.
MediaTek confirms true octa-core processor in the works
Earlier this month there was a whisp of octa-core colored smoke coming from MediaTek. Today it's more of a roaring camp fire, with the chip-maker going official -- fully announcing its new octa-core processor ambitions. The firm stops short of giving us the actual nitty-gritty specifications that many of you will be waiting for, instead taking the chance to remind us that Arm-based chips will be true eight-cores-at-once processing, and none of this big.LITTLE dallying. The word is these will float around the 2GHz mark on arrival, which last we heard was pegged for November. We're not suggesting the timing of this announcement was planned, but it looks, for now, like 8 is the current lucky number.

Video: 1930 Studebaker promo film is trippy

The conductor and orchestra - and the chap who's tap-dancing on the rear fender - are life sized. The Studebaker they're having a ball in and on, however, is ginormous; it's a massive wooden prop for a promo film from 1930 called Wild Flowers, and a wonderfully cheesy reminder of the lives our grandparents and great grandparents considered everyday.
Our favorite alternate title for this bit is "The swellest dream about the biggest car you ever saw," and it's got quite the backstory. It was directed by prolific filmmaker Alf Goulding, shot at the Studebaker Proving Ground near the Studebaker sign that was made of 50,000 trees, starred Jean Goldkette and his Studebaker Champion Orchestra (in their pit-lane whites, as always) that began life as a radio show, played in RKO theaters nationwide and was called "One of the cleverest" promos of its type at the time. We can only wonder what they'd think of how cars are advertised in movies today...
A copy of the short was given to the Library of Congress about ten years ago, but you can relive this month in 1930 in the video below. The shakiness clears up at the 1:20 mark, but the audio is straight from 83 years ago.

Report: Toyota hangs on to title of world's largest automaker for first half of 2013
Filed under: Plants/Manufacturing, Toyota, Earnings/Financials
General Motors and Ford can have all the success they please, but it doesn't seem like America's two largest manufacturers are going to topple Toyota in the first half of 2013. According to Reuters, Toyota moved 4.91 million vehicles in the first six months of 2013, representing a 1.1-percent drop from the same period in 2012.
GM is on the rise, though, with a four-percent increase in global sales, to 4.85 million. Volkswagen, still sitting in third, saw a 5.5-percent jump to 4.7 million vehicles in the first half of 2013.
If this pace continues for Toyota, it'll finish 2013 in the top sales spot for the second year in a row. The manufacturer fell to third, behind GM and VW, in 2011 after earthquakes and tsunamis ravaged its production capacity.
